I had so much fun volunteering here. All these years I've lived in Charlotte and I never knew this facility was year around and the hub for Samaritans purse . How cool is that? I helped quality check holiday gift boxes traveling to Mexico for less fortunate children . I am amazed at the generous donations many people , churches ,and organizations give for the cause . It was a blessing being able to see so many people come together to package, organize, & ship over 50,000+ shoe boxes for the holidays . I definitely want to bring my daughter back to volunteer , I know she'll enjoy it as much as I did . The site is gated , organized , and the staff is cheerful and helpful . They had chickfila and dominio's on site the day I volunteered if anyone wanted something to purchase and eat. Also , all drinks were 25cent . If you're looking to get some community service in , check out Operation Christmas Child .

Our recent volunteer event was a tremendous success as a result of the Salvation Army staff and organization. It was great working with the staff there for this event. All of the recipients were very happy!!! It is an amazing opportunity to give back!!!! I highly recommend that everyone volunteer with the Salvation Army!

Booth structured the organization like the British army, with uniformed ministers as “officers” and new members as “recruits.” The Christian Mission, which granted women equal ranks to men, initiated “campaigns” in London’s poorest areas, starting with soup kitchens and expanding to offer various forms of aid. Renamed in 1878, The Salvation Army opened its first U.S. branch in Pennsylvania two years later. During the Great Depression, it provided essential services, and it played significant roles in both world wars. Today, headquartered in London, it operates in over 130 countries, running evangelical centers, hospitals, rehabilitation programs, community and social work centers, secondhand stores, and more. Funding comes from voluntary contributions and publication sales.

Today was my first time volunteering with them stocking the store and it was an awesome experience!! I will be back and hopefully be able to coordinate a group from my workplace to volunteer with me in the near future. What Classroom Central does, is provide free school supplies for teachers in underprivileged school districts. They cover about 7 districts from Union to Mecklenburg to even one in SC. They have everything set up for teachers to "shop" the store. They get a certain quantity of each item and can pick up to 25 different items. These items range from book bags, to one subject notebooks, to markers, pens, pencils, and crayons. All the items are donated and Classroom Central doesn't receive money from the state. Risa is in charge of the volunteers who work there, and she is a gem. She's very patient with people like me who ask a lot of obvious questions, and I can tell she appreciates everyone who comes in. If you ever have the chance to volunteer, please do so. They have a sign up online, and normally go in 4 hour shifts. Mine was 1:30-5.
