This gym feels like a family! I always sing "rolling with my homies" to myself as I'm driving there…read more As a woman, I've always felt super safe and respected even though BJJ by its nature is all physical contact. I've been here for a year now and feel so confident and strong. Also, I love all the instructors' laid back sense of humor combined with serious instruction. Love you guys!

Take this review how you want, just know that I have no reason to lie about this place. Johnny Buck…read more(main instructor/owner the way he explained it) makes fun of the mentally ill with a lot of maliciousness. 7 months into my BJJ journey and taking my training very seriously; I saw a student go up to Johnny and say (referring to one of the mentally Ill students who would train with us) "I was worried about hurting him" in which Johnny responded with "Oh no, they're really strong, they can handle a lot, and uh don't worry if you hurt em because they're not even human so..." Racism is prevalent here, don't be fooled by their kindness at first. Johnny used to call me mutt before I confronted him on that. There's plenty of cops that go to this gym so if the "leader" is encouraging making fun of mentally ill people and racism then you have a cycle that will continue throughout the community. This "gym" pushes a 12 month commitment for new members. They speak under their breath about you here if you don't submit to their culture or their way of thinking. It's almost like a cult in a way. The main reason why I wrote this review is because I felt it was my civic duty to let anybody who's innocently trying to learn self defense to protect others, are not taken advantage of like I was. My advice to new and potential future customers is to please stay away from that place but if you do want to check it out then I suggest you listen to your gut, stay true to who you are, and if you believe in God stay close to him because this guy and his ilk aren't good people. -Message to Johnny: What you teach is a perversion of what real humans naturally feel. Real humans have empathy. You don't.

Professor Larry, his team of qualified coaches and the other members have been so helpful and encouraging throughout this new path for us. As a petite, 50 year old it has certainly been empowering as well. Between the knowledge I've gained from the classes and the two Girls on Guard Safety Defense Workshops I've attended, I have more confidence that I would be able to defend myself from anyone at any age or size if need be. It's been equally fascinating to watch the confidence and discipline it continues to build in our kids (ages 12 & 15)! The icing on the cake is that It's just a great community of people to hang out with! I highly recommend this gym for those of all ages and physical fitness abilities that have an interest in learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! 5 's all around!

As an older student (I was 37 at the time), he set an environment of respect, discipline and strong core values. What I did not know then, was that BJJ would be a life changer. As a military retiree with medical challenges, Jiujitsu provided me with the physical recipe to improve my core strength and mental balance in my life. I currently live in Honolulu, Hawaii, but still train several times a week and make it a point to visit Professor Shealy when I make it back to the mainland. BJJ is for all ages and skill levels. It teaches us a different way to view issues in life by setting unique challenges on the mat. I look forward to the next opportunity I get to roll with Professor Shealy and his team at Hendo BJJ. If you are thinking about an activity that you can do for the rest of your life. GO SEE LARRY!
