Apparently this is only the second year for this race series and it runs like they have been doing…read moreit forever!! It was far and away one of the BEST race experiences I have had and I am comparing it to the Princess Half-Marathon Weekend at Disney, so that's really saying something! They offer a Friday night Fishy 5K and/or 1K Family Fun Run, and a plethora of distances to choose from Saturday morning: Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and 1K for kids! and here is the best part: Run the 5K Friday night and ANY distance on Saturday and you earn the special Challenge medal!!! The medals are so well designed and of the highest quality.. really, we liked them MORE than the ones we received in Disney. And the race runs flawlessly!!! So many volunteers and so well organized.. everyone was finishing around the same times on Saturday and it was never backed up. There was a beer tent, (1 beer included in each of my 5Ks), at the end of both days and just a fabulous spirit all around. I met a lot of people on the course with fabulous stories!! (Shout out to 72 year old Bernie Thompson of Hamilton who I saw for THREE days of racing in Dunnville AND St Catharine's on Sunday and really inspired me!) There was also a great tech racing shirt and bananas, bars, water and a litre of coconut water at the end too. The pre-race emails and information are flawlessly organized from the package pick up to the race shuttles. Everything was easy to understand and find. I would actually suggest you use the shuttle rather than park in town just because we met the NICEST man who drove us back and forth! We really enjoyed the races and had never been to the area before. We loved Dunnville and did some weekend shopping/eating and discovering. Shout Out to Muddy the Mudcat, who you might overlook on the run out Saturday but will jump out at you in your final leg, lol!

In the wake of the horrific events of the Buffalo Tops tragedy last weekend, I absolutely had to do…read moresomething to help. With the Tops where this senseless act of violence took place closed until further notice, the community around it needs help with access to groceries. I found a list of food pantries near the Tops, one of which is Rooted in Love Community Fridge. This is a fridge and dry pantry, so they typically accept donations of both perishable and dry goods. Today we brought down a couple bags of cold goods, and a few bags of pantry items. When we arrived, the lot was full of volunteers, all standing in the pouring rain and ready to help unload donations. We got there around lunchtime, and it was busy. It was a bit disorganized and confusing on where to park and where to bring the donations, but all of the volunteers were extremely friendly and wanted to help. They helped us carry our load of food into the building. I asked the volunteers what to do about the cold items, and most didn't know. An older gentleman acknowledged that he would get the items to the fridge. If you are going to make donations this week, I would recommend sticking with non-perishable pantry items for now. Since there was such an influx of donors and a lot of new volunteers just trying to do their best, things that won't spoil are probably better to bring for now. I am deeply appreciative and grateful for the volunteers and organizers of this food pantry option for our community. Thank you Rooted in Love for supporting those in need, especially during this time of great loss for our beloved city. #Buffalove

THey cleaned everything really well and even took the extra step of getting the bigger appliances and bulky garbage taken care of so I didn't have to go through more trouble. They were all so nice and considerate, also very careful and thorough with cleaning the items and making sure the basement was fully cleaned. Couldn't recommend them enough.

They also host a great poetry series, and writing workshops for both high school and adults. They have a great space where people can come and hone their skills, and have listeners offer their honest and helpful critiques. They have helped people publish locally and nationally, and really believe in what they are doing. The staff is very eloquent and passionate about the organization and really push for great writing and great programs. I look forward to Babel every year and am thankful I live in a city with something like this to go to.

The family was welcoming, sympathetic and professional. Michael was thorough and informative, he made sure I understood every aspect of the process and helped me make some hard decisions. It was a burden off my grieving shoulders. The service itself was beautiful. Michael and Laura were attentive to our every need, as well as monitored the flow of guests coming and going (service was held during the covid pandemic), and had the chapel staged to showcase some of my father's photographs and belongings. The best part - they set up a virtual stream so that family and friends unable to physically attend were still able to watch the service from home... this detail really made all the difference. I am forever grateful to Michael Goodlander and his family for their ability to create such a peaceful and reminiscent space. I encourage those looking for funeral homes to strongly consider hosting at Otto Redanz, you will be met with high quality service from beginning to end, guaranteed.
