Apples, pears, blackberries, pumpkins and squash are found on this farm. And there are a ton of apples ready for the picking NOW. It is in the honor system , U Pick is a dollar a pound. No interest in U-Pick, thank you, though they do this throughout the season (check their instagram for info on when they are allowing U-Pick). It was a fine place but I'm not sure if I would make the trip again. It was an hour drive and we got our strawberries, walked around a bit, and left; all told we were there for maybe 20 minutes or so and I don't think it was worth the drive. I'll probably pick up from a farmer's market instead, unless I'm nearby. They have more than just the produce here, as there's a little gift shop area on the one side of the building that has gift items, children's toys and clothes, and more. They also have a counter where you can order food, and a nice outdoor area to eat at. I will say that what I REALLY appreciated was that it wasn't a farm carnival, as some of them are now with rides and lines and parking that's blocks away. This is a more straightforward farm stand, which is what I wanted.

They do have scissors for sale for $3 dollars if you do not have any with you or a knife to cut the flowers. The weather was perfect. The temperature was amazing. The flowers were all so beautiful. Lots of colors from the zinnia's and the variety of sunflowers. They're so many of them. It was such a great time. I enjoy the peace and quiet of the farm, picking up flowers and overall just a great experience. I loved going there.

To me, it's more fun when there are significantly more people around, and during peak summertime when there are plenty of strawberries, red raspberries, and black raspberries, that is the most fun and, in my opinion, worth the higher price. Off season both strawberries and raspberries are not going to be very sweet. It's rare for me to find black raspberries just in general, so that is a major draw for me returning!! It is so much fun to pick your own berries and such a fun outing for families and kids! They run a tight ship about making sure people stay in certain areas before they open up more, so I can see how that can be an inconvenience for some. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience and I definitely recommend a visit!!!

I was shocked to find out that most orchards these days charge a minimum of $10 per person to enter the orchard . This gets real expensive for a quick stop for a family of 6. I found this orchard that has no fees other than the weight of your apples at $1.20 per pound. There were plenty of apples to pick and I like the assortment of sizes of the apples. There were many that were small/snack size and delicious. These are perfect for families with young kids. I hate when my kids grab an apple out of the fridge and declare they are SO FULL 3 bites later. These are great size to not be wasteful . They also fit well in lunch boxes as well as with limited school lunch time to eat. Trees were clearly marked with what kind of apple and a description of the apple taste . Im a huge fan , we will be back . I just wish they sold donuts :)

We saw making of fresh apple donuts, bought some and they were so soft fresh and yummy Definitely recommend going here and it is great place to take kids too.

The menu was prime rib (with gravy and horseradish sauce), sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, apple bread stuffing, carrots, rolls, dutch apple pie and more. We were able to order a few a la carte items to go along with it (hard apple cider, extra sides etc). It was plenty of food and our family loved everything. They included easy instructions for reheating in the oven so on Christmas our house still smelled like all the delicious food (without all the work!). This CSA has a great variety of vegetables and fruits. They partner with other organic farms or local orchards to deliver their customers more variety. They even have eggs, meat, dairy, honey and jams. I would pick up my shares at the Grayslake farm every Thursdays and that was always a time I looked forward to. Always friendly staff, helpful weekly emails that would tell you what was in your share and recipes to use them. I had to move out of state a few months ago and this CSA is one of the thing I miss the most.
