NOTE: his review is for the Horizons bar and restaurant inside Opal Cove resort NOT the resort itself, which I have reviewed separately.
BAR: The selection of drinks available was satisfactory, and the prices were quite reasonable for a resort. Some of the staff seemed quite inexperienced i.e did not know how to mix basic drinks or were various wines were kept but overall was not too bad.
DINNER: This is were it started to go down hill a little. The oysters Kilpatrick were OK, just and were quite expensive.
The mains were tasty, but the sauce and accompaniments seemed to be very store bought. Once again the price was way out of proportion to the offering. At this stage probably still a 3.5 star experience when you take into account we were at a resort so high prices are to be expected with a captive audience.
BUFFET BREAKFAST: Terrible, just terrible. Pay $25 a head for a buffet breakfast and you do NOT expect this. Coffee machine out of water that no one bothers to top up, no bacon, scrambled eggs that are so runny they border on liquid and a toast station that had barely anything but crusts left.
Overall I would not eat here again. The accommodation was fine, but for food just go into Coffs. There are enough fine eating establishments there that you do not need to inflict this place on yourself. read more
