I have mixed feelings about his Greenhouse... the only reason I bumped them from a 3 to a 4 star is…read morebased on the sheer variety of plants they sell. Of all the greenhouses I've visited in Alaska, this one has the widest selection of perennials. They have things that NO ONE else has, so that's pretty cool. What isn't cool? Three things: One- their plants are all on the ground (instead of eye level on tables, crammed to closely together on the wet soggy ground. They're too close together and there's no place to walk. As a result: Two- their plants are being over taken by weeds. Since they're on the ground the weeds are free to take over. The plants are not very well tended at all. Three: The prices are waaaaaay to high given the quality. The plants are small and poorly tended and you pay for the POT size, not the plant size. Kinda ridiculous. The indoor plants in the greenhouse are well tended and gorgeous however. I just think their poor layout makes it really difficult to tend the plants. The greenhouse is an oasis of tropical plants, soothing sounds and smells. They have a cute selection of gifts- wind chimes, soaps and lotions and other zen items. I was really pleased with their selection of herbs, which is one of my favorite subjects: basil, siam basil, tri-colored sage, parsley, oregano, rosemary, thyme, lemon verbena, bee balm, chocolate mint, peppermint, chives and other lovelies. I'll definitely be back, but I'll be looking for sales to make it worth the trip.

P&M is bar-none, my favorite greenhouse in Alaska. The have the widest variety of houseplants,…read moretropicals, annuals and perennials of any place in the area. The also have wonderful herbs, veggies, roses, carnivorous plants, a smattering of orchids... they even have banana "trees" and bird of paradise. Their plants are also incredibly healthy and robust. And best of all, their prices are, at a minimum 10% cheaper than anywhere else. In some instances, their prices are as much as 75% cheaper than other places. One of the reasons for that is they are a grower that provides plants to a lot of other retail shops. I think the other reason is because these people are serious plant lovers and really just want to share the joy. The location is a bit of an inconvenience as it's not really near, well, anything... but it's definitely worth it to make a couple trips throughout the year to see what offerings they have. As a person who formerly worked in a greenhouse, I can assure you, it doesn't get any better than this. Love love love, so much love. (Check out my pics, the proof is in the pudding.)

The woman working here is a real buzzkill. I am a shopper who doesn't like to be bothered, however--nothing beats a smile and a hello upon walking into a place. She will engage in conversation if you get it started while buying something. Hmmm. I had thought at one time that I may be a regular if only because the wonderful Leanin' Tree greeting cards are carried here. Meh. I get more warmth at the Hallmark store which is in the same mall, and from ordering cards online with Greeting Card Universe, where customizing is free. I walked in and the lady working there looked up at me from her knitting/crocheting and looked back down. No hello. Nothing. I did a small circle, getting closer to the register to see if I'd still get an acknowledgement. Nothing. I have decided that as I visit stores and shop the Christmas bazaars that if the owners cannot take the time to greet potential customers then they do not deserve my business. A simple "hello" doesn't hurt anyone. It's one word. I would of even taken a wave... Sorry not sorry.

It smells incredibly inviting and sweet I tried to put my nose on which scent I was picking up in hopes it was one priced for sale somewhere. Much of what's inside is made locally in Alaska by artisans and artists, though there are some cute items that upon careful inspection are made in Indonesia so it feels bleh to buy marked up with artisan prices.
