Call me prejudiced, but I wouldn't let anyone there touch my hair; there's always a chance my hair would be butchered by innocently ignorant hairdressers so I'll stick to Eva's! However, I was very much impressed by their range of organic hair products, as it's the first salon of its kind I've come across in Edinburgh. It's extremely clean and spacious, like any self respecting new age salon, and it smelled fantastic when I was in there! Price wise, it doesn't seem too steep, although I have no idea what the average would be in a European hair salon. I've uploaded a picture of the price list, so you can decide for yourself.

I hate getting my hair cut. I always make far too big a deal of it. And the problem with a place…read morelike Edinburgh is you either get expensive salons like Toni & Guy or really really cheap barbers that give you a bowl cut. So when I moved to Marchmont at the start of my third year at uni I was pleasantly surprised to find this place. A sort of mid-rage, not dirt cheap but not really expensive hairdressers. Well ladies and gents, you get what you pay for. Not the worst hair cut I've ever had but I've certainly never been back. They were all very pleasant and everything but they're just not that good at cutting hair unfortunately. Not mine anyway.

I visited Caldow Salon when I used to live not too far near Roseburn. I finally decided that it was…read morein the best interests of those around me that I got my scruffy hair a bit into shape. I don't like to splash out on haircuts. Being originally a country bumpkin I used to enjoy a trim at my local hairdressers for £6. I know Caldow's £25 for a gents cut and finish (£29 for ladies) isn't that bad for Edinburgh, but that's only because Edinburgh hairdressers are all so darn expensive. The actual haircut was fine. It was pretty much what I asked for, nothing fancy. It wasn't really anything better than my old £6 trim, but I suppose I've been spoilt. The salon itself looks quite swanky. They offer you a drink when you come in, and the leather seats face you sit in while being cut up (so to speak) faces individual mini TV screens. It all looks very nice, and I suppose that's party what you're paying for, but at the end of the day I'm only in there for half an hour and I just want my hair tidied! The staff themselves were very friendly. I popped in to make an appointment and they asked me what I wanted done and I wanted any advice. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth checking out, especially if you take your hairdressers a bit more seriously than I do. A full list of their services can be found online. Note: You can actually get 20% off your first booking if you go onto their website and quote "web offer" when you book.

I needed a quick split end trim and I was in a rush, so I decided to pop in here before my train home to see what they could do. Entering the salon, you are hit with a wall of warm air and fruity shampoos, and the receptionist was smiley and friendly. I sat in the leather clad waiting area flicking through a hair mag for 10 minutes, and the stylist came over to regretably inform me that they were packed to the rafters and couldn't fit me in for another hour and a half. Unfortunately I was rushing so I had to decline, but they even offered me a drink and a chance to book another appointment, and were very apologetic even though they didn't really have to be. Although I didn't get a hair cut, the work ethic and the personality of the place struck me as soon as I walked in, and I would have no hesitations in coming here for a hair cut the next time I need one!

I do need my haircut but I always stay loyal to my usual hairdresser who I will definitely need to visit very soon as I'm starting to look like Cousin It. I was told that this salon sold Dermalogica products and seeing as I usually order mine online, I decided to venture in and see what they had on offer. As soon as I was on Salisbury Place I could see the huge selection of Dermalogica displayed in the window. They offer single products in various sizes and also skin packs that are a full cleansing range each targeted for specific skin types. I always go for the sensitive skin kit and was delighted that they had it - it saves me paying the postage charge online! The staff were very friendly and even though I was only in the salon for a short time I could see that it was very fresh and modern and that the staff were very attentive too. They also sell GHD's and I noticed the brand new ones in purple, green, blue and red.

My hairdresser understood exactly what I wanted and knew what the word, "trim" meant. Not a complex word but from past experience the word is not in the vocabularies of a lot of scissor-happy hairdressers that have obviously assumed it means, "cut as much as you can!" The first time I have left a hairdressers feeling good about my hair rather than thinking of ways I can maybe fix it once I'm home. I also dye my hair myself which often leads to a lot of patronsing looks while being asked questions such as, "do you dye your hair yourself?" as they hold it up and away from themselves like it's diseased. This was not the case in Robert Gordon. The hairdresser didn't even mention the dye in my hair but after considering a change of hair colour for a while I think I might just get it dyed here rather than doing it myself; and not because I felt intimidated and forced but because I would trust them to do a good job. I have never praised anywhere so highly so thank you Robert Gordon. Keep up the good work.
