The Oodi library is a must visit, the inside is just as architecturally interesting as the outside, with sloping floors on the top floor, a spiral staircase, many different seating options, a nice cafe which even has gluten free and dairy free sandwich and pastry options. The Oodi Library is a marvel of architectural design and cultural enrichment. While the top floor is nicely stocked with local and international books, other levels offer a variety of other opportunities for cardholders, including use of sewing machines, 3D printers, work stations, and musical instruments. This building is a work of art outside and inside. There is a section where parents can wheel in strollers carrying their offspring to get used to a liberary life. In this part There is stroller parking, snack table, shoe rack, chairs and a special crawl carpet area for the kiddos to crawl on the floor. How cool is that. And for the older visitors this library offers so much to do. You can enter study areas, meeting rooms, enjoy openspace sitting areas while working on your studies or just browsing on books or magazines. Great thing too that the WC/ Restrooms are clean. While in Helsinki, I attended two events and enjoyed them both tremendously. One was a lecture given by an author who wrote a book about memory and brain function. Great presentation in an open space area. The other event was a speech about manipulative news feed in the media and press. Wow, what great information. This took place in the amphitheater of the Oodi. I love this place and everything it offers. You know, reading is a big part of the Finnish culture. I highly recommend the Oodi visit to anyone. read more

This library is simply OMG. I've been to many libraries but this one is clearly a winner. You can't miss it as it's right next to Helsinki train station. The exterior design alone is already astonishing and it is the inside that gives you the "wow" factor. Aside from the typical books, you can find all sorts of stuff from a machinery lab, sewing machines, 3D printers and more. On the top floor, where the books are, it has a section with slanted floor with performance area and seating. Absolutely wonderful to make library less boring. There is also a cafe on the ground floor where you can grab a sandwich and drinks. Congratulations Helsinki for having such a beautiful library to celebrate your country's independence. read more
