I've been a Fidelity Premier customer for over two decades, primarily because my employer's 401(k)…read morewas held there. The service had been acceptable until recently. Following my estate planning attorney's advice, I instructed Fidelity to move certain assets among my family's Fidelity accounts. Then, out of nowhere, Fidelity's Back Office placed a restriction on one of my accounts without any explanation. I contacted my account manager via text and email and called the Premium Support line multiple times -- each time I was told the "Legal Team" was still reviewing the case, with no timeline or further details provided. After two months of silence, Fidelity abruptly sent me an account termination email -- again, without any reasoning or justification. It's astonishing how a firm of this size can treat long-time clients so poorly, while other top-tier private asset management firms consistently go above and beyond to serve their customers. Stay far, far away from Fidelity -- a bunch of incompetent and clueless cowards hiding behind their desks, afraid to face their own customers.

I have been with Fidelity for five years now, and couldn't be happier. Before we made any decisions…read moreabout our default portfolio choices, we met with our assigned consultant, who spent more than two hours discussing our investment concerns, our family situation, and what we were planning with respect to an upcoming retirement. After that meeting, we had another one scheduled to discuss our options and were pleased with the suggestions that matched our priorities and risk tolerance. The team of advisors that he works in tandem with have all been highly professional and helpful. I was initially skeptical about working with a large company like Fidelity, but I am happy to admit I was wrong--they have been terrific partners.

It all depends upon who your financial advisor is. We transferred our account to go with our superb…read moreadvisor. The 3 is because the app is good but they send out multiple corrected 1099's every year instead of waiting for all the reclassifications to be done - I'd give our advisor a 5, but not necessarily Ameriprise.

I believe they have now moved to Kirkland, but DO NOT sign on to work with Uddin, Label & Tinker. I…read morespecifically worked with Ian Tinker and had a terrible experience. Ameriprise has a lot of sales-y materials they make you fill out up front to define your "dream" but then they never actually make any good recommendations about your actual finances. Ian told me he wasn't there to sell, but what was the first thing he actually "recommended"? Ameriprise life insurance. Even though I'd already told him I get plenty through work. Guess who gets the commissions... After several months of silence, during which my accounts completely broke because of their website "upgrades", I finally decided to consider the $1K fee lost, and save my money while I could. Of course, closing the account wouldn't be an Ameriprise experience without them severely messing that up too. They double charged me for overdraft protection because they didn't close my account in time, cut me a check for the wrong amount because of more "technical glitches" and are now asking me to pay them back. Best part of this? Ian didn't even call me himself. He passed me off to someone in their "customer service" department. Gee, I wouldn't think Ameriprise would even have one of those. So do yourself and your money a favor - find someone else to give you financial advice. I bet a UW student could do better than these guys and they'd probably be a lot less full of themselves.
