I stopped in for a smog this week. The process was super quick and the owner was very friendly. There is a nice shaded spot to sit and work while waiting, which I barely go to use because I was in and out so quickly (always a nice problem to have!). This smog guy's lack of knowledge cost me 39 gallons of wasted gas, 290 miles of wasted driving and 5 hours of wasted time. In the past, I've gone to this guy to smog my Accord and Yukon, because he is the cheapest with $19.95 coupons and recently $26.95 coupons. I recently acquired a 24' class C RV and need to smog it. 12/9/13 Monday, I arrive to have my RV smog. Without greeting, he comes out of his garage and demands that I must remove the inside center engine cover before he'll smog it. I was "put-off" because he's the mechanic and it's his job to do that. I complied but felt like he didn't want my business here. This was my first clue to go away, but I was dumb and didn't pickup on it. He connected his cable to the OBD interface and went to punch keys on the smog computer. Then, he tells me that my battery must have died because the computer is showing 2 incompletes and that I can only have 1 to continue. I told him that the battery hadn't died. He suggested that I drive around for awhile and come back. So, I drove around for 30 mins to Yuba City and back taking both side streets and the freeway. He hooked up to the OBD and tells me that there's still two incompletes. I asked him what two incompletes is his smog computer referring to. He says sharply that there is just two; your vehicle only has two. You have to go drive around more; each vehicle responds differently and some may report sooner and others take much longer. 12/10/13 Tuesday, I drive around for an additional 30-40 mins and come back for another try. Unfortunately, he says it's still no good. He recommended that I drive around much more going no faster than 55 mph and be in heavy stop n' go traffic if possible. 12/11/13 Wednesday, I commuted to work using the RV. 12/12/13 Thursday, I commuted to work again using the RV. Now I have put a total of 160 freeway miles and 130 city miles. I was hoping that this would do the trick and that the vehicle's computer should have gotten reports from its sensors. Unfortunately, the smog guy says it is still no good and that I should contact the dealership for help. I have already decided to get a second opinion should it not work out on Thursday. So, I left 1 Stop Smog Checks and went down street about 100 yards to a neighboring smog and tire shop; something I should have done the first day... I explained to the smog and tire guy that I have been trying to get my RV smog and the smog guy at 1 Stop says the RV has two incompletes and cannot be smogged. I ask if he could hookup to my RV to see if he gets incompletes, too. The smog and tire guy was pleasant and asked if the other guy checked under the hood. I said no and he asked to take a look. He explained that my RV may be certified as OBD1 and will not require memory checks because there is no memory to check. Only OBD2 certified vehicles have memory that must be checked. Sure enough, he point out the OBD1 Certified sticker under the hood and that my RV was over 14,000 lbs. He stated that the other smog guy should have check for this sticker and should have bypass the memory check for OBD2 certification. If the sticker was not present, the smog guy should have reviewed smog emissions book and know that all vehicle over 14,000 lbs are OBD2 exempt. I went back to 1 Stop Smog Check to explain what the smog and tire shop guy told me about OBD1 including bypassing memory check. Unfortunately, I was very unsatisfied with revealing this information. The smog guy immediately went defensive and doesn't think he did anything wrong. Yet, he appears to be unaware of OBD1; and least of which, checking my RV for it. He said that if his computer says to check for it then that's what he has to do. He said if the other smog guy (smog/tire shop guy) is able to smog your RV, well then, good for you. I will never come back to 1 Stop Smog Check, ever! The guy is a total incompetent and cost me time and money ($130 worth of gas). read more

I had my Explorer smog tested today, 9 March 2015. I was completely satisfied. His smog test price was very reasonable plus a military discount. His shop isn't much to look at but his service was outstanding. When I asked about that one bad review, he was honest about it and even admitted he made an error but was willing to work with that customer. We are all human and prone to errors once in awhile.
