In spite of all this I purchased a shiny axe with a dark oak handle from them, in part because I wanted to support a local business and in part because it seemed balanced and looked nice. It was not cheap. Now one year later I see that the chrome plating now has some black spots that will not rub out, even though it has been sitting in my bedroom the whole time and I have not used it to cut anything. A quick google search finds that: "This problem of black spots which you are facing seems related to base material defect which you might have failed to notice during pre cleaning stage and the same is appearing over a period of time once plating is completed." In summary- this blade smith sucks.

Sometimes they are working good as new, sometimes they are sharpened incorrectly and are a total loss. Rick is the only person in the area I trust with my scissors. We recently had our kitchen stuff sharpened too, so I got a chance to see the whole process. My stuff was sharpened to perfection, and I took the knives home and said nothing to my husband to see if he could notice the difference. He commented how the butcher knife (the first one he used and one we rarely touch) was so much sharper than the others. I told him I'd gotten them sharpened, and he was so impressed he wants them done on the regular now. Rick was super polite about me having to cancel our first appointment, and kept me updated on where he would be since I was going to an appointment he'd already had scheduled. But, after unsuccessfully trying to contact them and a drive-by their location, I conclude they're out-of-business. Back when we lived in Auburn, several years ago, Agrishop was our go-to. So we called upon them again for this repair. Luckily, they fit us in, quickly picked the machine, did the repair with a full service and we had it back a few days later - and for a very competitive price! I had specified that all belts should be replaced; but, the tech found the deck belt to be brand new and recommended against replacing it - he saved me $$! And let me say this: every person we talked to, including the very fine gentleman who picked up and delivered the machine, were all very professional, kind, considerate and helpful. Steve and I were quite impressed with the various knife selections for all of your kitchen needs. Very cool! We definitely have a place to keep in mind when we need to upgrade our knives for cooking. There is quite a selection of local hot sauces from a brand I haven't seen before... so we will keep that in our minds for future reference also when our hot sauce stash needs to be replenished.

They also were willing to sell me a knife that is part of their restaurant collection- quality blade from a respected manufacturer with a cheap unbranded handle because for a paring knife, who cares what the handle looks like?
