My child has been attending since February, and in just a few months, we've seen tremendous growth, not only in language skills, but also in behavior and overall happiness. What stands out the most is how excited my child is to go to school every day, and even more telling, how they want to linger and keep playing when it's time to go home. That kind of joy and comfort speaks volumes about the environment the teachers have created. Ms. Shelly and Ms. Aya have been absolutely wonderful. They are warm, attentive, and truly invested in each child's development. I really appreciate how open they are to working with parents and tailoring their approach to meet each child's needs. It's clear they genuinely care and want every child to thrive. The school does a fantastic job of encouraging independence, teaching important manners, and creating a space where children can learn naturally through play. We've been so happy with our experience and are really glad we took a chance on this newer location. We're looking forward to continuing our journey here and sending our children in the years to come.

I also do hear that the director there may be there past her prime, this review is based on my perspective as a father. Although I speak 100% English to my daughter, my wife speaks 100% Japanese to my daughter. I think this is a great school that provides a lot of opportunities for those that want their kids to learn Japanese or at least enforce what they can retain. There are class moms that assist with the parents in helping with various activities that this preschool has. They do have a Halloween event, Christmas event, some other event that involves hitting a watermelon blindfolded (Suikawari), and an athletic event which the whole family can get involved called Undokai in the spring. There are bake sales and Teriyaki chicken sales, throughout the year. For those that miss very few classes, there are attendance awards in June for those that miss the least days of preschool. Also in the middle of June prior to the completion of the spring session, there is a day where kids can play on 2 jumpers should they wish to expel their energy. As for the staff, of course all of them speak fluent Japanese. English most likely is not their first language but they do have an understanding of it. For those students and parents that do not understand Japanese, there are those that can help you understand what is going on. The teachers are mostly older than probably other Japanese preschools in the area but they do a great job facilitating a pleasant learning environment. Of course with any school, parents can meet each other prior to dropping off or picking up their kid(s) so it can serve as a place for parents to find out which friends your kids enjoy playing with. There is a day that is set where parents collectively can visit your child's class to see what goes on during their daily activity. For those that attend the summer sessions, there are 2 days each week designated for pool day so the kids can cool off in the plastic wading pools that are set up. Play toys are available in each classroom and are based on the age of the child. As far as outdoor play equipment, there are also 2 large sandboxes, tricycles to ride, a secure place for kids to run on concrete, a play gym, and 2 Little Tyke style houses for the kids to play in. This school has allowed our daughter to grow up in an environment she is comfortable in. It helped that we attended the Gardena Buddhist Church so our daughter was accustomed to the environment and not shocked into a preschool. After 2 years of this school, she will now go to an English school so she can start the transition to Kindergarten. It is always good to register early in any preschool so you have a good chance of enrolling there. We would send our other daughter to go there but since we moved, we will enroll our 2nd one to another local Japanese preschool.

Her teachers are prepared for the learning that will take place for the day, show positivity and love in their interactions with students, and provide opportunities for each family to be actively engaged in their child's learning and development. As a member of a multinational & multiethnic family, I appreciate the time teachers and staff take to ensure the intent and meaning behind school activities is explained for both English speakers & Native Japanese speakers as well. The entire staff and faculty are available and open to any questions you may have, and embody an extraordinary level of care and professionalism. Thank you for providing such a beautifully positive and caring environment for my daughter to grow within.

We had a wonderful experience with Nihao Preschool this summer! We enrolled our daughter, Lola, in…read moretheir summer school program, and honestly couldn't be happier with how much she has enjoyed it and friends she's met already. Lola went in knowing no Chinese, so we weren't sure how she would respond to being immersed in a language she didn't understand. The teachers made the transition feel easy and effortless. They did an amazing job keeping her engaged, enriched, and excited to participate while introducing her to Chinese through play, activities, music, and everyday routines. You can really tell how much thought, time, and effort goes into their curriculum. One of my favorite things is that the first thing the children do each morning after check-in is a morning stretch and exercise together as a whole school. It's such a positive way to start the day and creates a wonderful sense of community. We especially loved all of the teachers, and Li Laoshi and Naonao Laoshi were particular favorites for Lola. They are warm, attentive, and clearly care so much about the children. We always felt that Lola was in great hands. The biggest surprise for us has been seeing Lola's interest in Chinese develop over the month. She went from knowing nothing at all to recognizing and speaking a few Chinese words on her own--and, even more importantly, she has become curious and excited about the language. She can also count to twenty. For us, that is exactly what we hoped she would gain from this experience. We're so happy with Nihao and have decided to continue on during the school year with their afterschool program.

My 3 year old went there for a month of their summer camp and came back speaking much more Chinese (she was speaking just a little before) since the environment made her a lot more comfortable with the language. The school's facilities and rules are well thought out and designed, with a regular schedule for instruction, activities, snacks, napping and free play. There's a lot of hands on activities and crafts, which my little one loved and enjoyed showing me when she got home. I really liked how well thought out the lessons are and how many demonstrations and experiments the little ones are encouraged to do. The parent community is also warm and supportive! Pros: - Great teachers - Lots of individualized attention - Well thought out curriculum and hands on activities - Great outdoor area for play (including a treehouse!) - Very good app that the teachers update daily with pictures of the kids, this is great and made me feel like I'm there at the school with my child Cons: Smaller parking lot (may be challenging in the morning)

He now loves to tell me what he did at school right after I pick him up. He knows all the students and all the teachers there, and he loves to go there every day. Even though it's a new school but it's really a new site for Nihao. It has all the systems and rules. The director there is an experienced elementary school teacher who is very considerate and thoughtful for situations such as my child's eating habit and bathroom usage. They have hands on activities, outdoor activities for lessons, celebrate different festivals as well as nap schedule, which is essential for the little ones. Myself, is also an elementary bilingual teacher, and I love that they differentiate the lessons for the kids to meet their developmental needs. Besides, they teach Mandarin and English, which helps my son speaks Mandarin at home since our home language is English. There's a lot more to say about this school, and if you are looking for a systematic bilingual preschool, this is the one.

We are happy parents of a Mandarin Tree alumnus from the Westchester location, and this review is…read morefocused on the amazing teachers that took care of him. My son learned to speak and understand so much Mandarin during his time there. This helped him to communicate with grandparents. It was really cute when he sang Chinese songs and even recited some poetry from the Tang Dynasty, which was impressive. For the parents who care a lot about math, my son was at least 2 years ahead of the LAUSD curriculum when he left MTA. He was able to do 3 digit addition, very very basic 4 digit addition and basic subtraction. When it came to meals, we were satisfied with the food. Jenny Laoshi did a great job getting my son to eat vegetables and fruits. This was no easy feat for our son as I struggle to get him to eat more veggies and try different fruits. We only wish they served more Chinese meals but we heard that some of the kids were not willing to eat Chinese food as much as American food. In terms of value, I don't think you'll find anything else that will beat MTA. We were pleasantly surprised by the price point, especially for the quality of education, care and food (2 meals and 2 snacks provided every day). The hours were also fantastic - 8am-6pm. Now with all that being said, no school is perfect. There's always room for improvement. I think one of them is better school-parent and teacher-parent communications. I think as long as parents are not shy about asking questions, there should be no issue. I was also hoping there would be more cultural education, like discussing Mid-Autumn Festival traditions and reading relevant stories.
