The Gowanus Canal is legendary in Brooklyn and not very well known elsewhere, and it's absolutely lovely. It's polluted - of course - but it is a great part of Brooklyn and a very interesting area of Brooklyn as well. It's near Red Hook and Gowanus, hence the name. Park Slope as well, one of the best neighbourhoods. It's an absolutely lovely part of town, and close to Sunset Park where a lot of Latin stuff is. It's a great little part of Brooklyn and it's worth coming to.

The continued blotch of this appalling old industrial relic is laughable; an indictment of New York government's agency-wide feebleness. Litchfield purchased the land in 1852, and the structure was built in 1854-1857 at a cost of $150,000. Litchfield was reluctant to sell his property. Eventually, The New York City Parks Commission acquired the Litchfield plot in 1868 for $1.7 million. This representing 42% of the overall land budget for the park, even though the plot constituted just over five percent of the park's acreage. The facade is made of brick that is painted to mimic stone. The front of the villa has a four-story-high tower attached to an octagonal three-story pavilion. The balconies and porches are covered by canopies that are supported by columns. The cylindrical turrets also contribute to the classical design. The Litchfields leased the property from the city until 1882, and the following year, the Brooklyn Park Commission started using the house as its headquarters. I wanted to walk down the Brooklyn Bridge and check out DUMBO…read more Timing didn't work out though, and I read that the Brooklyn Bridge didn't end out convenient for checking out DUMBO (instead the Manhattan Bridge would work out better). So we took the subway out and headed to the popular Manhattan bridge view on Washington St, which is blocked off as a pedestrian area. Walked through the Main Street Park, past Pebble Beach, and towards the encased carousel. We learned a few things. Man is it loud here! The trains on the Manhattan Bridge make such noise! Don't pick a hotel here unless they are able to promise noise blocking construction. Okay, maybe that's the only thing I learned, since the other is more specific to me - don't walk around DUMBO when it is hot and humid. I was a blob, and just wanted to sit in the shade and drink water.

There are a lot of different bars and restaurants on this street. Stone street is one of the oldest surviving streets in New York City. Stone Street's history started back to the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam. It was originally built in the 17th century and was one of the city's first paved streets! Today, Stone Street is between Coenties Slip and Hanover Square. Its filled with restaurants, bars, outdoor seating and there is always a festive atmosphere, especially during the evenings. Some of the restaurants currently in the area are the following Stone Street Tavern Mad Dog & Beans (I come to this restaurant often and get the chicken fajitas! The food here is delicious!) Route 66 Smokehouse Adrienne's Pizza bar and much more! There are a lot of annual festivals held at Stone Street St.Paddy's Day Cinco De Mayo Oktoberfest Oysterfest and a lot more! This is a must visit if you're traveling to Lower Manhattan and the financial district. It does get busy in this area, but it's totally worth stopping by!

I came here with one of good friends. By the end of the night she texted me "thank you for keeping me young". The texted made me so happy. Sometimes it's so easy to get used to a routine, but it's these core memories we build that truly make life magical! I'm all about good life work balance. I love building memories with my peeps!
