The rooftop deck on the 17th floor with stunning views of the Seaport, Downtown, Zakim bridge, airport and Charlestown is something you can't get anywhere else. The 2nd floor pool deck, I literally spend every sunny day up there and it's not crowded Monday through Friday and has amazing views of the harbor and friendly neighbors to chat with. Great indoor amenities too if you want to host a dinner party, they have a gas stove and a pool table with a ginormous TV and sofas. Our Super Bowl party was a blast. There is a puppy washing room too if you are into dogs, and lots of green space outside for walking said dogs. We've met so many dogs since moving here. It's like a dog paradise. We moved here from Charlestown in November 2016 and they offer a 15 month lease which is awesome. Our first floor apartment has it's own door to the outside which would be even more useful if we had a dog. Everyday I can sit on my sofa and watch giant ships cruise by within yards of my window. It's breathtaking. The management and leasing staff are friendly, accommodating and always asking how they can make the Eddy better. They often organize great events for residents and provide free donuts, candy and ice cream throughout the year in the lobby. If something breaks, Jose the maintenance guy is right there to fix it and is friendly! 24/7 concierges are very nice and will notify you when packages arrive and Brandon will always open the door for you if he's not on the phone. We love Brandon. Brandon, please don't ever leave. Update: The restaurant here has improved, plus we moved 15 stories up so we can't hear the restaurant noise anymore. Five stars for the Eddy! We love it here, won't you be my neighbor??

READ THIS BEFORE MOVING HERE…read more I lived at The Eddy for almost a year, and while the location is convenient and the views are beautiful, my overall experience was extremely disappointing. For a building marketed as luxury, both the apartment quality and level of service fall well below expectations. The apartments have cheap finishes, and several recurring issues made everyday living frustrating. The washer and dryer frequently left clothes with an unpleasant smell, while the windows did not close or seal properly. This was particularly noticeable on higher floors, where cold air would enter the apartment and wind would create a constant, irritating whistling noise. Another concerning incident involved maintenance opening my apartment door despite my explicitly stating in my maintenance request that I did not authorize entry without my permission. Respecting residents' privacy should be a basic expectation, not something residents have to worry about. The concierge service was particularly disappointing. A younger male concierge who typically works mornings repeatedly provided inaccurate information and even had the audacity to ask me for a gift. A reminder: **your job is to assist residents, not expect personal favors for performing responsibilities you're already paid to fulfill. Working in a luxury building does not automatically mean you provide luxury service.** Professionalism is demonstrated through conduct, and unfortunately, his left much to be desired. Management's communication was equally frustrating. I sent multiple emails regarding my concerns and have records of that correspondence. Although the leasing office eventually addressed the concierge matter, I was never properly updated or informed of the outcome. Residents should not have to repeatedly follow up for basic communication and accountability. To be fair, The Eddy offers a convenient location and beautiful views. Unfortunately, those are about the only aspects I can genuinely compliment. A nice view cannot compensate for poor apartment quality, recurring maintenance problems, questionable professionalism, and inadequate communication. **I would not recommend The Eddy.** At this price point, residents deserve more than an attractive building with subpar apartments and service that fails to meet basic expectations.

The front desk is always super friendly and helpful and the apartment quality is excellent - to the point that I rarely needed to call maintenance. And the few times I did have to, Randolfo provided the best service! The overall build quality here is quite impressive as it's hard to find in apartments usually. Another plus is that they're super dog friendly. The dog wash was so clutch - always stocked with shampoo and deodorant for dogs. Shoutout to the cleaning staff as they work hard every day to keep everything spotless and fresh. They also have amazing amenities here like the sky lounge and fun free community events such as making bouquets. Loved the small conveniences like having a cart we could borrow to help carry large packages to our room. Surprisingly, the moving out process went so smoothly! At other complexes, you usually run into unnecessary charges or security deposits not being returned. However with Alcott, we had the BEST experience moving out. They made the process extremely easy and we got our money back quickly. So sad that I had to move out, but I can't recommend Alcott Apartments enough. Totally worth the investment!

Fast forward to 2011, and it's a brand new story. The maintenance staff is awesome, by far the fastest responding staff I've ever had. The management staff however are a totally different story. I figured out that I had bed bugs a month ago and informed the staff. To their credit, they immediately scheduled an exterminator, but they weren't able to respond until a Monday. After confirmation of an infestation, I was then told that I could continue sleeping/living there during the extermination process. Although the chemical treatment or whatever they do does no harm to me, do i really want to keep sleeping in my bed knowing that bed bugs may not be completely gone? I wasn't offered any compensation for my dry cleaning, general washing or even a night or two in a hotel. I ended up sleeping in my car for 2 nights and washing clothes for a week. After returning from Christmas, I was then informed that the next scheduled extermination would be on January 5th. A full week away from returning from break. Again, I was told it was "safe" to stay in the apartment. During this whole time, no information was given to the rest of the building regarding the bed bugs. That makes me question if they've ever had problems before and failed to mention it to me. The best part is that there are also mice living in the wall. I know it's the city, but this place has so many things going on...and the facilities manager is not the best person to deal with....actually, most of them aren't. Bottom line, be careful with these people.

It was expensive and I didn't get a whole lot of amenities or bang for my buck, so it's certainly not *the* best apartment in Boston, but it's a far cry from being the worst. Here's the skinny: THE GOOD: My studio was small, but it did feature a regular kitchen area with fridge, stove, oven, sink, etc.. The location was fantastic--Coolidge Corner is a stone's throw away, the T stops right in front of the place, maintenance is prompt and friendly, the building felt safe and the groundskeepers vacuumed the hallways and cleaned up every morning. THE BAD: The building is old--it was built in the late 19th century--and has some quirks, like creaky stairs, an old elevator, and heating pipes that can make quite a racket in the winter. Again, the apartments are *small* and overpriced, and they will try to raise the rent on you every year. They key word is "try"--talk to them, and you can negotiate.

I ended up having to find a place in Boston from afar (and then move sight unseen) and was able to easily browse open apartments on their website and then work with a staff person to get photos of the place I'd eventually live in and secure a lease. Moving in was super easy--I think I just paid a $250 deposit apart from first month's rent--as was moving out. I leased a one bedroom apartment while I lived here and it was clean and spacious. The bedroom was big (several feet to each wall on every side of a queen bed) and there was a walk in closet that had room for not only my dresser, but also storage space for plenty of boxes--lots of cabinet space in the kitchen and a coat closet in the main room, too. All of the appliances were new and nice and I only once had an appliance issue (an electrical problem with the dishwasher, which the staff fixed right away). I'd also never had a washer and dryer in an apartment before, so that felt like a luxury. All of the appliances were energy- and water-efficient, too, which was great. I lived on the sixth floor of my building on the side facing Washington Street and the bus depot. I never especially had street noise issues and only once had a noise problem with a neighbor. I also lived next to the elevator and never heard it. I will say that even facing mostly away from the train tracks, I heard (and felt) the trains constantly. It didn't especially bother me since I already slept with ear plugs in and my bedroom was carpeted, but I can see how it would be an annoyance for some. I always found the MetroMark staff to be polite, helpful and responsive (I most recently most often was in touch with Jaz in the office and Joel at the desk--both great people!). The one time I needed after hours maintenance help (small issue with my AC during the summer), Joel was super helpful. I did also think that the building management did an excellent job trying to keep residents safe and informed during the pandemic. I never really used the common spaces at the buildings, though they looked nice. I did find it a little odd that the TV lounges didn't have cable service, though the computer/study area did have good wifi and a printer. The one thing that I did use a bit was the gym--nice weights, treadmills and bikes, but it felt small sometimes for how many people were using it (especially at night). I never had a car in Boston and it was nice that the building had several Zip Cars in the parking lot, though I eventually preferred using the Enterprise rental location down Washington Street for longer trips. The location of the building and the neighborhood were both outstanding. I worked downtown and my commute door to door via the orange line was about 35-40 minutes. Jamaica Plain is a great neighborhood and having the expansive green spaces of the arboretum, Franklin Park and the Southwest Corridor so close was fantastic. South and Centre streets in JP are great little main streets with lots of good restaurants and bars and independent shops. One thing that I didn't love about my lease terms (though the language was very clear) was that the month to month option was extremely expensive. That said, I renewed my lease twice and my rent did not go up one dollar in three years, which was amazing to me.

Honestly, the sad part is originally I would have given this place a better review. But with the…read morecircumstances as they are, I'm fairly upset with the apartment complex currently and if I had known two years ago this would have been where I was at, I probably would have gone with a different complex. First and foremost, if you intend on having any unexpected life changes I would suggest a different complex. MetroMark makes you sign a 90 (NINETY) Day Lease Break agreement, and I fairly certain when you are breaking a lease you generally do not know THREE months ahead of time that you are breaking this lease. In my case it is that I was offered a job on the west coast. Secondly, they also do not allow subletting. So even if you find a suitable person to take over your lease, they won't allow it. You also are not allowed to add a roommate until your lease is over - so couples looking to potentially move in together please be aware of this. Lastly, they will not work with you on the renewal amounts. This renewal cycle they wanted to raise my rent $450 - and while the potential new renter I had in line was willing to sign the renewal if they met him halfway, I was told that the amounts were as they stand. Yes, it is a pet friendly community, but most people don't pick up after their dogs (I am a dog owner and while I appreciate the available dog bags people rarely use them). The only reason this is a two star and not a one star because I am frankly very angry they are not willing to work with their residents when it comes to life changing events, is the cleaning staff is very kind and do their best to keep the building clean. Do with this review what you will, but please make sure you take a look at your leases before you sign them - especially since this place has shown they're just in it for the money grab. Ask for a lease example for any place you apply to and make sure the terms fit what you are looking for, because frankly if the last three years have taught us anything, you never know what life throws you and I suggest finding a more sympathetic apartment complex.
