Absolutely darling…read more I must admit, despite having recently acquired (ok, he's mine -- I aquired him through 9 months of torture) a baby -- I shy away from "baby boutiques." Many that I've been to are way overpriced with very little selection, so I tend to stick with online shopping or larger department stores. HOWEVER. Sweet Pea. Exception! I was graciously given a Sweet Pea gift certificate and so I popped in before departing TC -- I should've given myself more time. There is such great selection, it's almost like a mini department store. Many stores within a store as they carry several brands that operate sort of like small displays within the store. My FAVORITE brand Aden & Anais -- oodles of stuff. Heaven. They also have great clothing like Tea, etc. The stroller selection is out of this world. Seriously. Wow. If you are looking for ANYTHING child related, this is your place. Great for gifts of course, but truly even for your own kids. I spoke with Jeff (the owner and father of FOUR!) and he is truly knowledgable about all of the brands and extremely involved in the products he offers. Him and I went to the same high school! The staff was also very friendly, helping me with sizes and showing me a few things I didn't know about. Sweet Pea is everything that a baby/kid store should be. Right in Downtown TC. Lucky ducks! I'll be making frequent stops on my trips to the native land. All around a classy operation. I walked away with an A&A sleep sack for upcoming travels, a cherry onesie (couldn't resist) and some other organic cotton outfits that this little babe has already worn several times. Very high quality. Don't be intimidated -- this is not your run of the mill overpriced kid boutique, this is the real deal.

This is my favorite boutique in Traverse City! They include a mix of antique pieces, which work perfectly with contemporary designs. I love the chandeliers they had throughout this most recent visit. As soo as you walk in, you can't help but fall in love, it mixes all items seamlessly, providing fun spaces, and one of a kind pieces. I've purchased a couple of jewelry items both visits, and while I would basically buy anything in the shop, it is rather pricey. But, if you are looking for pieces that truly are treasures that can be handed down, or unique items, as well as items that will last for years...then splurging isn't so bad!

*sigh* If you would have told me 5 years ago that I'd be giving Ella's anything less than 5 stars,…read moreI would have been shocked. Alas... I have been a faithful Ella's shopper for...oh man, a long, long time. 10 years at least. They used to be in this tiny, tiny place and while they did have some pricey, vintage and vintage-inspired clothes, they also had a substantial amount of real vintage, reasonably priced, *amazing* stuff. In particular, I recall that they always had once rack of adorable vintage blouses and none of them were over 30 bucks. I have an incredible lightweight black wool jacket from the 30s that is one of my all-time favorite pieces and I can think of at least three other items that I bought years ago and still adore. A few years ago or so they moved into a huge, beautiful space, still on Front Street. (Side note: I really wish they hadn't gotten rid of their old logo. It was beautiful and what they have now looks like something from Photoshop 101.) Like I said, the space is beautiful and they did a great job on the interior design, but....man, I can just not afford anything in there anymore. And I pretty much literally mean that. The bountiful rack of under-$30 blouses has been reduced to maybe 5 or so only "OK" items. Everything else is very expensive and a lot of it isn't vintage--just the same stuff you see in a lot of these high-end, plastic-y, tourist-trap "SoHo" boutiques that cater to women under a size 10. Don't get me wrong--a lot of the clothes are still beautiful and they do still have a formidable vintage section. Also, they sell Frye boots which I really, really love. I'm just disappointed to see the turn toward catering to tourists and townie yuppies with money. Something else--the staff is stylish and nice, but *way* too pushy. I hate when people try to sell me things when I'm just looking around. Also when they make me feel bad for not buying anything. I still have a place in my heart for Ella's and I still go in every time I visit T.C. I also do recommend checking it out--it is very beautiful and worth looking at! I just wish I could afford to do more than look.
