    Our journey begins!
    Lindy S.

I should start by saying that we visited Onanda Park on a sunny 89 degree day hoping to find that magical "swim spot" other reviewers had mentioned. We did NOT find it! But we did end up having a really fun hike trying! We entered near the cabins where there was a beautiful lake view, and a moderately challenging uphill climb. Ha! We had to stop halfway up for a shade break, and tomorrow I'm probably going to feel like it was leg day. The cabins looked cute from the outside! Well spaced out. A few of them had beautiful decks overlooking the lake. I could honestly just come here with a picnic blanket and hang out for a while with a book. There was a playground we passed by, but it was blocked off and looked like it was under construction. After a bit of poking around we found a sign that said "uplands", so we veered on to the forest path. The trails were easy to follow and had signs throughout. They had chairs in random places if you needed to rest, or just wanted to stop and enjoy the ambiance. We followed the trails straight up to one of the overlooks, but didn't get a great view of the water there. The trees were lush and it was hard to see through the leaves. So we followed it back to the "lowlands" and eventually found the cabins again. There was another path we wanted to take following the water that we were told starts at the road and leads to the waterfalls, but by the time we got to the beginning of that we were hiked out. We will definitely go back soon to check it out though, and I will post more photos and update my review when we do!

A wonderful park! Great hiking that is well marked. The swimming area is beautiful! The lifeguards were very helpful.

Motion Junction - My daughter LOVES this spinny thing! Fully accessible!

I can't believe I'm the first to review this place!…read more We have been excited to check out the new Motion Junction playground since before it was finished and open to the public. We heard that it was supposed to be fully inclusive, the first of its kind. So when we saw the sign for the grand opening ceremony, we knew we were going! The ceremony was really beautiful, and a lot more people attended than I expected. They told us the story of how the idea of this playground came to be, recognized everybody that helped and donated, and informed us that it would be finished in "phases". So it is not yet complete, even though the playground is ready be loved and enjoyed by all! I honestly can not tell you how much I love this playground. The ground is padded with soft, squishy material. (It won't hurt if you fall!) There are sidewalks and ramps everywhere. For kids there are monkey bars, balance platforms, bridges, slides, musical instruments, fully accessible swings, zip lines, and more! There is a giant smiley face "meet up" spot. There are buddy benches for kids that want to find a friend. There is a communication station for the nonverbal. Umbrellas and benches are strewn throughout, and heartwarming inclusive signs made by kids, for kids are hung around the outer fence. In the future they plan to put a building down with a proper entrance that has bathrooms and a concession stand. A friend of mine that uses a wheelchair was excited that she could finally swing with her daughter. This place is magic, guys. And it's not even finished. Super highly recommend a visit!

Not fun for anyone over the age of 5. Also, the water fountain doesn't work, which isn't fun.read more

There is a rule that all trash must be carried out; there are no trash cans on the premises. While it was mostly clean, I would recommend installing some trash cans because there was some garbage left behind by families who were using the park grills. There were several people smoking cigarettes in the grassy area and on the beach, which is against the rules but the lifeguards didn't say anything to them. We visited at various times of the day during our stay and we saw some fantastic sunrises and sunsets. There were families walking along the beach and an artist painting the sunset one evening. It seemed to be a pretty safe area and never too busy, even during mid-day.

It's a beautiful lake and greatly taken care of including both the beach and rest rooms!…read more Unfortunately the rules are a bit over bearing for families to have fun. If you have older children the life guards are stricter.... No dogs No floating device ( which I understand for safety reasons) No splashing or engaging in activities the life guards deem rough - this is not consistant between life guards However, if you have young children that want to throw rocks this behavior the the lifeguards deem appropriate. Other behaviors that were not addressed that that I assume are OK include: Smoking around young children ( both cigarettes and Marijuana) and insanely loud and frequent use of profanity. However, I was able to watch numerous young children throw rocks at eachother with no reprimand.
