Short version:
Was I fan? About certain things, YES!
Will I tell all my friends, colleagues, family members "go there!"? No.
The one thing that stood out and I would say: GO EAT IT, is the gunkan Squid&Truffle. I have never had any sushi so delightful and sooooo yummy ever in my life!!
My story:
Thursday afternoon and hungrrrrry, craving for sushi. Consulted my Yelp app, as I do, and found this place nearby. Hashtag win! I came in around 2-ish and it was totally empty, I was the first customers. Which makes sense, as the Spaniard goes to lunch way later. When I left, the place was almost full. So, if you want to go here with a group - totally possible when you go a bit earlier!
The menu is interesting; really cool flavour combinations! And again, that gunkan Squid&Truffle is SO good and you have to eat it! If not, I'll fly to Madrid and tell you off in person. I had the gunkan Fatty Tuna (which was ok, no wow-factor), the gunkan Sea Urchin (booooooring), and the Hotate Maki (good). I was expecting more from the Hotate Maki; scallops can be so soft, that they just melt in your mouth and that wasn't really the case here. To be fair, I expected the Squid&Truffle nót to be so soft and it was. Ooooooh this gunkan will stay with me forever and will give me gastronomic dreams for the rest of my life!!
The service was good, not super surprising as I was the only one in the restaurant and already had all my food before it became busy. The one thing that really makes me give this place no full stars is:
1. My overall sushi-eating-experience;
the nori was nice & crispy + the rice was dry (meh) + some toppings were uh-mazing (had I mentioned the Squid&Truffle? DO IT!) but overall I found the toppings medium impressive.
2. The overall price;
€50 for sushi & 2 drinks is excessive when it comes to the overall yumminess (or lack thereof), except for the Squid&Truffle. Sorry, had to mention it again.
Plus: there's already 10% service charge on the bill. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big tipper, I am! I think it's just something 'that you always do' and the amount represents the appreciation for your experience. In general, I give around 5-10% and when I really liked it, I'd give 20%.
I just really don't like it when it's already on the bill, I'd like to decide for myself and I think customers should always have that option.
