Great atmosphere, great staff and food, but sometimes the weather is a problem for this open air bar and grill.

I'd recommend the deviled egg appetizer, fried catfish, and jalapeño creamy corn. Highly recommend if you're in Henderson!

Our server had the best attitude and nicest southern bell accent even though she didn't think so. The food was all really quite good. My wife enjoyed her shrimp and grits. It was a hearty portion and she could not finish it. My son enjoyed the beef pot pie. It had a flaky crust, great flavor, and the beef was super tender. I am a Texan who has lived in the north for a VERY long time. I gave up on the idea of getting a good chicken fried steak in Indiana many years ago. Because of this restaurant, I had my first real chicken fried steak in a VERY long time. Now, I would be lying if I didn't think the batter was too salty. Things happen and getting something too salty is very easy thing to do. I also didn't care for it being served on top of the fries and red beans with rice. In Texas, there are usually two plates. One for the steak and one for the fixings. Would I try it again? You bet! I was just excited it was made from a real piece of round steak. We will be back. That is for sure.

The start of my first official day in Kentucky kicked off at Eastgate Family Restaurant. My friend…read morewho's from here advised that Eastgate Family Restaurant has the best breakfast in the city. Based on what he said I had to go. As Eastgate Family Restaurant sits in a parking plaza there is ample parking. Upon walking it you are met with a sign to seat yourself. The restaurant is huge but has the feel of a small down home diner. The decor is very simple and dominated by gray tones. Once seated we were greeted by Lisa who was all smiles and midwest charm. The menu has an abundance of options but the breakfast section was calling my name. LoL! As I watched the servers bring out some other dishes I had to think long and hard about what I wanted. Being that my tastebuds we're all over the place I decided to go A-La-Carte, don't judge me. Food: Grits - The grits were plain. There was nothing special about them overall but they satisfied my desire for some grits. The serving size was very generous and after adding 6 packs of butter I was happier. LoL! Bacon (well done) - The bacon was the bomb. It was thick and well done just how I like it. Even with being well done it still had the robust flavor profile of smoked pork. Truth be told, I would come back for the bacon alone. Home Fries (well done and add onions) - The home fries were thinly sliced which made the crispyness even better. Though they were thin they still had the softness in the middle. They hit the spot. Overall, Eastgate Family Restaurant was a good meal with great service at a great price. It's worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for home cooked flavor without having to cook it.

My husband loved the eggs. The biscuit tasted like it was made from scratch. We ordered the pecan pie because it was the special. It was so good! The coffee was okay and hot in its yeti mug. I thought they could use someone to bus tables, cause when we walked in there were quite a few dirty tables and flies on the left over food. That almost turned me around, but I'm glad we stayed! If I was a local, I'd be a regular!

Omg! I finally got the chance to try Mr. D's. From the moment I arrived in Henderson my friend has…read morebeen talking about how great the burgers at Mr. D's are. Today was the day I finally got to try one. Upon pulling in, it puts you in the mindset of Sonic. You pull up, press the button, and place your order. The menu has a variety of options which adds to the individualistic approach of this spot. Due to the menu it's more than just a burger joint. I decided to get the Bacon Cheeseburger Basket with a Sweet Tea! Babeeeeeeeeeeeeee. When I tell you this Sweet Tea was THE BOMB!!!!! I'm talking steeped, sweet, and refreshing. It definitely satisfied my sweet tea desire and that's not an easy task. LoL. The Bacon Burger was an experience. The beef was quality meat, well seasoned and perfectly grilled. The bacon was thick sliced and well done. The fixings of the burger were fresh and didn't make the bread soggy. Furthermore, it was just the right amount of lettuce and tomatoes... The burger didn't come with condiments on it so make sure you ask for them if you desire. The fries were crinkled which is my personal favorite. They were crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Golden fried and good all by themselves. No salt or ketchup was needed. Mr. D's was a mouth pleasing, hunger satisfying experience. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try it out and I definitely recommend if you're in the area and in the mood for a good burger to stop by. Next time I'm in town I want to try the Wing Basket. LoL!!!!
