OMO is one of Calgary's best kept secrets! It's like Benihana only better. Large portions of quality meats, soup, salad, ice cream, etc. You cannot leave feeling hungry. Wednesday's is all-you-can-eat night and the value for dollar, especially these days, is hard to beat. We had steak, chicken, beef and shrimp teppanyaki, appetizers, two rounds of drinks and desserts for less than $80 per person. Pretty amazing for a great steak dinner. Great for kids or that special someone, you're guaranteed dinner and a show here with the spectacular fireworks and party tricks the cooks come up with (some are better than others, but none of them are bad); the kids even get to dress up in restaurant-provided costumes (such as mock swords and colourful robes) for family photo-ops if they want to. The food portions were good and everything tasted great; it's not much different from the more affordable Teppanyaki places in town, but then again you do get a lot of entertainment here that most other places don't seem to do. Service is excellent from both the cooks and the waiters/waitresses; there was a chokepoint when they considered not honouring our coupon (a very recent advertisement run by OMO themselves in the local newspaper), but the management finally came through so kudos and extra tip for that. Only other points docked is that parking can be slightly difficult to find even with signage (need to drive around the back as they do not appear to have an entrance directly from the main street) but it's worth it for the food and experience. read more

Absolutely wonderful experience. Drove down from red deer for the whole day with my boyfriend to just have a date day! And we wanted to end our date with our first Teppanyaki experience! I highly suggest the app OpenTable when reserving a spot for this location since it is very convenient and informative! Came at 9:30 (wish we came earlier!!) but they were happy and friendly to welcome us in even though the kitchen closed at 10pm. Mark who was our chef did an ABSOLUTE WONDERFUL job in entertaining us even though i know its almost the end of his day. He seemed very genuine and loved his job. Waitresses were very helpful and the FOOD WAS SO GOOD!! We will definitely be coming back but next time we will be coming earlier and we will Order more food haha!! Wagyu and shrimp was so yummy. Oh! And the drink moshi moshi was so good too! Overall 11/10 would recommend this fun date night or family experience. Had an amazing experience, took my family on a Wednesday evening, booked through OpenTable as I noticed they only had a couple spots left. We ordered Steak, and sides of Shrimp, Scallops, and Lobster. It as all very good, especially the Veggies. I ended up ordering double veggies, the sauces were great. Teppanyaki is my favorite and I try it everywhere I travel. The key to Tappan is the sauces, of the sauces are good, you will enjoy the food much more. The staff were nice, our table chef didn't have the skills like most tappan places but I was there not for the show but the food. And I was very Pleased and will be back more often. So before I went to OMO Teppanyaki, I did a quick research whether or not their KOBE BEEF is legit, like 120% REEEAAALL. At first, I thought that their Kobe beef that they advertise on their website is bull%$##, but they hyperlinked the seemingly genuine website, sorry can't read Japanese, with lists of restaurant names all across the world that carries the, *registered Kobe beef. Well, that's because it's god damn expensive, I mean 4oz cost freaking $138! that's crazy for a poor guy like me and that's as far as my wallet allows. Oh, my poor wallet. Anyways as for my little $27 6oz new york steak: The new york steak was done pretty good, I liked how juicy it was and also cooked to how I wanted it. I tell them not to undercook it as I absolutely hate it. Everything MUST be medium well done and the chef did oblige my request. I think I will give 4 stars for their professional attitude and overall good customer service skills. The ambiance of the restaurant is about average so I give 3.5 stars Really there's NOTHING memorable about it tbh..maybe except that I so wanted to be served at that bright neon yellow teppanyaki table rather than the black colored teppanyaki table where I was sitting :( Actually, the tablecloth was a nice touch but really they should have more of THAT bright neon yellow teppanyaki tables! This was my first time at a restaurant like this. Experience was good, the chef was personable and friendly and overall we had a good time. He did some tricks with the cooking intensive and although the made a few mistakes it was still cool to see. The food was all cooked in front of you and all of it was delicious. Celebrated my birthday neither family and we had a great experience and the food was delicious. We sat at the teppanaki table and the chef kept us entertained as we told him it was my bday. He was super funny and made a fire volcano out of onions and did tons of fire demonstrations. We also ordered the dragon roll and assorted sashimi and both was present in a Bento box that released fog due to the dry ice on the bottom. The four of us shared two the Wagyu beef dinner special which came with salad, soup Wagyu beef on the grill along with veggies and ice cream. At the end the servers came out and gave us kimonos to wear and I got serenaded which a guitar as the server's sang happy birthday to me in Japanese and I got a slice of Swiss roll with a candle. At the end they printed me off a picture of our family in their own personal card. They really made me feel really special. Totally recommend this place! read more

Second the regular food such as ribeye was forozen, and the taste even worse than other buffet places. Third the drink I ordered was joke it's mixed with can juice and other stuff not taste right. It's not pricey, I LOVE that they have vegan options and they have quite a few nice drinks. The meal was ok. Fish was fresh and well prepared. Very strange to have lemon flavour in sushi rolls but it was fine. Charged 2 dollars for a side of spicy mayo which is steep. What can we expect from a teppanyaki? Great food? Quality performance? Surprise moments? OMO has it all! My first experience of teppanyaki here at OMO is a memorable one. Entering the restaurant, I was seated right away. The reason why I came for their teppanyaki was because of their speciality menu (Japanese Wagyu and Kobe beef). Wagyu literally means Japanese beef (Wa = Japanese, Gyu = Beef), but because of different variations of wagyu beef around the world (Australian Wagyu and Canadian Wagyu are crossbred between local cattle and Wagyu), I will have to emphasize that they actually carry the Japanese Wagyu import from Japan. Without going into further technical stuff, let go straight to the food. Each of the teppanyaki course comes with a miso soup, a salad, a bowl of rice (refill available) the main course, and a dessert ice cream. Their miso soup isn't overly salty, compared with other Japanese restaurants. It has a nice smooth texture and it doesn't disrupt my taste buds. Follow with a small salad, the salad is a typical salad, it's good, but nothing particularly stand-out. With my teppanyaki chef arriving at my table, and because he knows it is my first time at a teppanyaki dinner, he got me engage with him by asking me to stand in front of the iron grill and try out the two spatulas and do the moves just like a teppanyaki chef. During the dinner, he did some fire tricks on the grill and perform an onion volcano. Overall, performance was great, and I believe the price was decent as I'm not only paying for the food, but the performance along with it. Let's finish the review with the food. The main course consists of grilled vegetables, OMO shrimp, 4oz wagyu beef (what I came here specifically for) and bean sprout. Grilled vegetables was okay, it was a typical iron grill vegetable, the vegetables are crispy, yet fully cooked. OMO shrimp was very good, shrimp wasn't overcooked, its very crisp and tender. My focus was on the wagyu, the meat displayed in front of me was beautifully marbled. You can tell its going to be a tender and melts in your mouth type of steak. I asked for medium rare, and it come as I wanted. The steak does not require chewing (or at least I don't remember chewing it). The texture is very smooth and it's truly a prized premium meat. They provided a steak sauce, and I only dipped it in once, the sauce was very good, it adds additional flavour to the meat. But personally, the steak by itself was more than enough flavour, the fat from the steak was very flavourful itself. Wrapping up my meal with a dessert. I ordered a matcha ice cream and it was excellent. It was not overly sweet, and I can taste the hint of matcha powder blend in with the ice cream. It is a very nice way to wrap up the meal at OMO. I must thank Eric and his staff for such a memorable service at OMO, I will be back to try their Kobe beef! read more

My boyfriend and I came here for our 1 year anniversary and we shared the Ultimate Date Combo, takoyaki and some drinks, it was filling for both of us. On the other hand the staff was absolutely amazing and I loved their hospitality! I would believe this was the best customer service I have received by far from any restaurant. They were so welcoming, so nice and very sweet. Even during COVID their instructions on how their restaurant works and how the menu works was fantastic. I would definetly come here again. They were all so energetic and they were all so good at their job. I do highly recommend coming here, it is a bit pricy, however for the experience for the first time I definetly think it is worth a try. We made reservations for 5 pm, got there at 4:50 pm and was finally greeted by the front desk at 5:05 pm. Sat us at one of the tables and we perused the menu. The host asked if we would move to another table as they needed 2 people to fill theirs and we were told we would be eating sooner this way as the table we were at wasn't full yet. We moved to the new table and waited to order drinks. Another 10 minutes pass before a waitress takes drink orders. After our table mates got their beverages, was another 10 minutes before waitress came to take food orders but realized that the pot of tea we ordered wasn't present. Left us to get that and another 5 minutes pass. As we waited more after ordering food, we noticed that the original table we had been placed at was already getting their drinks, soup and the cook was pulling up with the food. WOW!!! Our soups came, the salads, then we were told that we would have to wait even longer as we didn't have a cook for our table. So after 50 minutes of this, my husband and I got up and left, but not before letting the host know that we were very disappointed, angry. His reaction, 'oh well, we can only serve so many customers at any given time.' REALLY?!?!?!?! Won't go back, definitely will NOT recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

We went to OMO for a night out with friends. It was fun and the atmosphere was lively. Many groups were celebrating birthdays. This was our first visit and the service staff was very attentive, from explaining how the Teppan dinner combo worked to keeping our water glasses full. The chefs put on an amazing show as they cooked our meal right in from of us. My friend is celiac and they were very accommodating by cooking her meal separately in the kitchen. I think the name OMO is really cool. The owner explained that it comes from three Japanese words that mean "hospitality", "interesting" and "memorable". Our visit was certainly interesting and memorable with great Japanese hospitality. Looking forward to going back. read more

Then the chef forgotten to turn on grill and had to wait some more for the grill to be hot. Then the order for food is still wrong so had to wait some more. The chef didn't ask how we like our food and it was not done how we like it. It was the worst experience ever. Won't be back. To top it off when the chef went to the table on the opposite sit from us the same thing happened! They had to wait for their grill to be heated up too because someone forgotten to turn on!
