Small plates. Sangria (white or red) and long tables suitable for group dining. There's not much more you could ask for to create a great atmosphere for a night out. I visited Ole on an evening when one of Brisbane's traditional Summer storms where threatening the city (the #bnestorm hashtag was out in full force, so you know it meant business), so I didn't experience the same peak time rushes that other Yelpers have described. As I sit dining alone in a restaurant designed for tapas - small plates for sharing - I feel somewhat out of place. This is a restaurant best experienced in a group, although the small plates does make solo dining an easy way to try many things on the menu. I order the empanadas de atun (the night's special filling: chicken, chorizo and manchego cheese in butter pastry, $9) and a glass of red sangria ($9). Both are brought to the table promptly and the first bite into the fresh empanada is worth sitting at a table alone. The flavours of the chicken, chorizo and manchego have melded perfectly. I didn't order dessert, but if I did it would have to be the churros. It'd be wrong not to? I'll definitely return to Ole, perhaps for breakfast but definitely for dinner, and most certainly in a group!

Little Stanley Street contains a virtually endless choice of restaurants. What attracted us to Ole is their flamenco dancer and their relatively cheap and simple menu. What made us stay and enjoy the night was their phenomenal service. Best I've had in Australia. The following dishes contributed to quite an eventful night: - Chuleta de Cordero ($18.50): Double lamb cutlet w/ parsley and mint salad. The lamb was beautifully prepared. Very tender, flavorful, and juicy. The salad provided a nice earthy contrast and a good palette cleanser. - Gazpacho ($6): Chilled Spanish tomato soup. This is a staple in Spain and a favorite in my family. Ole couldn't have done a worse job with it. Gazpacho typically features cucumbers, which give it the crisp refreshing taste. They were nowhere to be found here. Also, it was incredibly spicy. Gazpacho should NEVER be spicy. Even the waiter, who hails from Spain, agreed with us. The green color probably comes from green tomatoes, but it hinted to us that something was off before even trying. Due to us despising the Gazpacho so much, the chef decided to give us a complimentary sampler plate and convince us that Ole is not that bad of a place. Now that's customer service. The plate consisted of: - Queso Frito ($7): Fried manchego with tomato jam. The Spanish version of mozarella sticks. Absolutely delicious. Very lightly fried with a sweet but savory cheese on the inside. - Empanadas del Dia ($9): 3 empanadas of the day. These are about 1/5 the size of a regular empanada, but with all the flavor. Delicately baked to perfection with plenty of meat inside. - Bolitas de Garbanzo ($9.50): Chickpea fritters with hot chili sauce. Nothing too special, but the sauce was fantastic. It's more of a sweet and spicy marinara sauce, and goes well with all three dishes. All in all, the food here is fantastic. Just avoid the gazpacho. Service is remarkable. If you're not satisfied, they'll find a way to turn that around.

    Paella for 2 $45.00

The service is what really lets this place down. We waited at the "please wait here to be seated sign" a waitress eyeballed us and then continued to wipe down a clean table she was absorbed by. When finally seated we waited a long time for any offer to taking a drinks order or any table water. Once our order was placed we had to follow up on our drinks 3 times. Our starters arrived before our first round of drinks did. The paella was good but lacked the crunch and seemed a little expensive. Even more expensive when we received our bill and had been hit with a 12% Public Holiday Surcharge. I tried to mention to the waitress that it was a little unfair that the surcharge was not printed anywhere on the menu or mentioned to us when seated. The waitress either did not understand (language barrier) or was just choosing to be rude and said "I get manager!?" After how long we had waited, I just wanted to get out of there.

All noteworthy reviews begin with 'The Oxford English Dictionary defines...' and so shall this one. In this case, the said defined term is 'Olé', directly meaning 'bravo', which in turn directly refers to 'shouting approval'. And shouting approval is exactly what I did upon departing Olé, a new Spanish restaurant in Southbank. If you're not blown away by the open, wall-less space; impressive selection of Spanish wines and spirits or the intricate wooden detailing across the ceiling, then you will be by the waitstaff. Being a Spanish restaurant, the meals revolve around the concept of sharing (tricky to do when the fried manchego [Spanish cheese] with tomato jam [$3.50ea] is ridiculously moreish). The menu offers tapas and raciones (larger shared dishes) and is littered with unpronounceable Spanish words. Fortunately, the bubbly, attentive waitstaff happily explain the menu and give personal recommendations. Trying to determine the most memorable part of the meal is probably more difficult than deciding when how much fried cheese is too much fried cheese. And so to decide whether the Pedro Ximenez ice cream, pistachio toffee crisp and figs ($12) or the waitress's description of the dish as "f***ing amazing!!!" was the most memorable, is indeed a tough one. So I will leave that up to you to determine for yourself. Olé!

Been here twice now and enjoyed it both times, maybe it is the location, maybe it is the share plates or the sangria? We love the Sunset deal, such good value with choices for entrees and mains that can be shared and either sangria or spanish wine too. Portion sizes are generous, flavours are sublime and we ended up too full for desserts both times! The Sunset deal can only be enjoyed in the back space (not facing Southbank end) However with a good friend, you don't really mind.

The food was delicious and the service was great, I found the stools to be too high for me and the staff were amazing and found us a table inside quite quickly. Though do ring ahead and reserve a table as this place gets packed. We went on a Friday night around 6.30pm and it was busy, we were lucky to get a table as around 8pm there was a line up of people waiting to get in.

This venue can not split bills, which is insane for larger groups. There are plenty of other restaurants to go to.

The decor is very appropriate for both the area and for the W brand, servers are young and a little overbearing (probably due to inexperience?), and the kitchen, while mostly good, is also occasionally prone to bouts of slowness. Prawns and oysters off the chilled menu are both quite traditional; solid items but one might have expected them to take a few more risks here. On the other hand, W is a huge brand so maybe they're risk-adverse? And the swordfish main course was recommend medium rare but again otherwise not particularly innovative. And to be fair, sticking with the seafood, per the recommendation of all the servers, may have been a mistake on my part. The porchetta and I think the lamb (?) both sounded amazing, but I ended up skipping those. At least the seafood, for a nice place, was very reasonably priced. 3* sounds right. Don't be off-put by the rating, there's potential...

The open aspect of the design made full use of the space and capitalises on the beautiful weather Queenslanders enjoy. Signage is scarce when finding the place and parking is also tough. I'd recommend turning in to the hotel driveway and parking in their car park. Of course this is ticketed so you will need to pay. Good news is you don't have to be a guest to use the car park so you can drive straight in and take a ticket. The restaurant is spacious and open plan. It is welcoming and certainly the decor is modern and interesting by design. One small complaint, being of mature age I appreciate a comfortable and padded chair when out for dinner and the chair I had was neither. After a couple of hours my backside was needing a break! Anyway, the menu is limited but diverse. All the dishes were interesting and appealing. I had the only steak on the menu which was a 500 gram t-bone. I was in a party of eight so two others ordered the t-bone... in total two medium and one rare. Others in the party ordered fish, bugs and chicken. We also ordered some starters which was a sweet potato hummus and a fava bean and anchovy dip. Bread was an organic sourdough with cultured butter. All were delicious. Mains arrived all at once which is a real necessity in my books however the waiter could not identify which of the three steaks was the rare one. He simply placed one down in front of the person who ordered it and said "that should be it". One diner received an incorrect meal which was promptly returned to the kitchen and replaced with the correct one. No real drama, these things can happen. All diners enjoyed their meals with no complaints whatsoever. The portions were generous and all were visually appealing. My steak was delicious., cooked perfectly, juicy and tender. The meals don't come with sides so we ordered a mix of different dishes including asparagus, roasted garlic and rosemary potatoes and carrots. All were delicious. In terms of drinks the beer and wine lists were extensive and well represented. Service was efficient and slightly ambiguous. Whilst everyone was pleasant I didn't see anyone smile or engaging in terms of recommendations when requested. In all, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a slightly upmarket but relaxing atmosphere with great views, excellent food and a very good list of wines and beers.
