Overall, a pretty reasonable experience with a few hiccups along the way. Price was good (bought during the show special), although the process for proceeding was not made very clear. Having paid the deposit, I understood the shed would commence manufacture with payments required during and at the end of the process. It was only when I rang several weeks later that I was advised I had to make another initial payment before manufacture would commence. No problem with this, just would have been nice to know beforehand as it would have saved me several weeks.
Again, communication not great when it came to delivery. I took a day off work (delivery only on weekdays where I was), only to realise that evening I was missing the roller door. A couple of calls later the following day and I was advised the roller door is supplied by another company and I should have been informed about delivery of that separately. Apparently there had been another breakdown in communication. Fortunately I didn't have to be around for delivery (as they could drop it straight over my fence) which occurred as promised. Again, nothin huge, but simple communication could have made it all so much easier. To their credit, Olympic were very apologetic and offered a Bunnings voucher to 'ease the pain' of the inconvenience, which I hadn't expected.
The plans for building are all there, sort of. They are generic and you are expected to adapt them to your own shed (if you are doing it yourself). Without my brother who had built one previously, I would have been lost. It would be nice if you were given a plan with your shed which outlined you need to follow sections x, y and z of the generic instruction booklet. The other thing which would be really cool would be instructional videos on youtube. It doesn't matter how good your written instructions are, nothing will demonstrate it as clearly as watching someone else do it.
Finally, one little niggle with the roller door. I know it's a third party who supply this, but given Olympic are selling this as part of the shed they sold to me, I expect to be given the bits necessary to fit it to my shed. Unfortunately not so. B and D send the roller door with bolts to fit to masonry, not steel, with a particular note that if you're fitting it to steel frame, you'll need to buy appropriate nuts and bolts. They don't specify what these are. Having spent $7,500 on a shed, I don't really expected to have to go and buy $15 worth of additional nuts and bolts from Bunnings, though due to their earlier issues, at least I had a gift voucher to cover this. I also had to buy an extra pack of tek screws for the roof - it doesn't seem there's much room for error with the quantities supplied.
Overall though, despite a few minor issues, the shed has gone up nicely and I'm pretty happy. I do have a few bits left over which I'm not sure what do with - maybe I've just found more efficient ways to build it. I haven't found in the instructions where they're meant to go. Perhaps that tells its own story... read more
