I was here on a layover. My crew members and I were walking around downtown and this was recommended by the concierge of our hotel so I decided to stop by and eat before we continue on exploring. The food was great but the staff's service was amazing and made everything above and beyond. Thank you for your hospitality and good food.

Ditto everything like a year ago! We do enjoy the chicken gyros & steak de burgo! Good place to eat. We got the last table.

Our 2nd visit here and it was as wonderful as the 1st! Going to Greece this fall and wanted to try some good Greek food, it's not good, it's amazing! I love the atmosphere, only about a dozen tables, no TV's on the walls and just the quiet background music along with the hum of people chatting over their delicious meals. Tried a couple of wines which were tasty, then came the lemony soup with tender chicken & vegetables. The warm pita bread - the best! Greek salads did not disappoint nor did the flaming appetizer or our dinners. Finished off with the best baklava I've ever had! The courses aren't hurried which I love, it was a relaxing 2-hour dinner. I like going out once in a while when dinner is the main event, not a rushed bite before something else. Olympic Flame - THANK YOU! We will be back!

No one holds a flame to Olympic Flame for Greek food in Des Moines! Came out in a Wednesday night to enjoy some authentic Greek. Ordered two falafel sandwiches, fried squid, and baklava. Total came to $37.xx before gratuity. Everything tasted amazing! I absolutely loved the falafel sandwich. Very generous helping of every ingredient. Very fluffy, hot, and fresh falafel croquettes. I've never had them like here. Hummus was very flavorful. Buttery taste almost. The fried squid was delectable. My very favorite was the baklava though!! Hot crunchy and gooey with the BEST flavor, baklava. Everything I ate was dairy and egg free. I was completely satisfied. Service was efficient and very nice. Restaurant was quaint. I enjoyed the window seating. Not very busy when we visited but it made it an enjoyable and intimate night out. I highly recommend Olympic Flame for a delicious Greek craving. I've tried many around the city and I'm very impressed with Olympic Flame for quality and flavor of food and overall environment.

for my boyfriends birthday dinner we decided to come to this place because he has been there a few years prior and said it was good. we arrived around 7:30 and didn't get our main meal until an hour later. it took so long to get our food and it was so disgusting i couldn't even eat it. i barely touched my trio plate and my boyfriend did not like his food at all either. both dishes were microwaved and not fresh; it looked like a bunch of slop. the chef did not even try to plate it nicely because the appearance was so awful; just the look of the dish itself turned me off of it. the lamb was very hard and the waitress serving us tonight couldn't even tell me the difference of the two piles of slop that was supposedly "pasticcio" and "moussaka". the kebabs tasted like they microwaved and then left there for an hour. i truly hope this was just a bad night for them but honestly i doubt it. the server didn't take anything off of my bill even though i barely touched my food and told her it was bad and not enjoyable in the slightest. you can overhear everything from the kitchen as she was telling the chef i didn't like my food. it was embarrassing. she stated " i don't know what to do about it" to the owner. he obviously did not care in the slightest because they charged me 72 dollars for garbage. the waitress was nice but unprofessional. i didn't tip due to the fact that i was paying for literal shit and she said "oh so i'm the one being punished? that's f*cking awesome" and continued to bad mouth us as we were leaving...like yeah you decided that the food you were serving to me was up to standard and just by looking at it, it clearly was not, so i'm not paying you!! thank you so much for this terrible experience; i genuinely have never felt more underserved. i felt like i was on a kitchen nightmares episode and that has never happened to me before. don't go here.

Went for lunch on a day off after Christmas. Staff was friendly and attentive. I believe 1 waitress and 1 cook running the restaurant. Food came out fairly quick and had good flavors. This is a smaller place and filled up quickly after we arrived. Furnishings are dated, but not shabby. Gyro does not come with fries, I added them as a side.

The food was amazing! We stopped in before a concert, and it was packed. They were able to seat us right away. They had a belly dancer performing throughout the restaurant, and we were able to meet her lovely family! I 100% recommend this little gem of a spot!

The food is REALLY good, but it's expensive. We've ordered 2 appetizers and 3 meals and it was almost $90.

5-Star Plus Plus Review: Green Olive at 1960 Grand Ave, West Des Moines, IA 50265…read more Green Olive absolutely delivered a meal that felt like comfort food and a special treat at the same time. I ordered the combo meal, and it was the kind of plate that makes you slow down and enjoy every bite because there is so much flavor and variety. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned, with that perfect balance of warm spices that tastes rich without being too heavy. The beef had a deep, savory flavor and a satisfying bite, and the lamb was the real standout. It tasted clean, bold, and cooked just right, with that hearty, slightly smoky taste that makes lamb worth ordering. Every protein on the plate felt like it was prepared with care, not rushed. The rice was fresh and fluffy, and it did exactly what great rice should do. It held the meal together and soaked up the flavor from everything around it. Then came the best part, the variety of sauces. Each sauce brought something different. One added a creamy smooth finish, another gave a bright kick, and another brought that deeper, bold flavor that keeps you coming back for one more bite. I loved being able to mix and match because it made the meal feel like several meals in one. To finish, I had the cheesecake and coffee, and that was the perfect ending. The cheesecake was smooth, rich, and satisfying without being overly sweet. The coffee was warm, strong, and comforting, and it tied everything together like a great closing note. Bottom line: Green Olive gave me a full, flavorful, and well-balanced experience from the first bite to the last sip. If you want a meal that is filling, fresh, and packed with variety, the combo meal is the way to go. The staff were friendly and kind absolutely OUTSTANDING!!!

We came for dinner on a weekend night and there was plenty of seating. I think most people stop in for carry out or online pick up orders. We got the #5 gyro platter plate and #10 gyro mix plate. Heavy portions that are worth the price! I think the gyro platter was better but the chicken for our gyro mix plate was delicious! Green sauce was great and has a little kick to it. I'm definitely going to ask for an extra sauce of it next time. Plenty of parking out front, had no issues finding this place. If you're dining in they give you menus after seating. Great casual dining spot.

Whoever is at the front desk should proactively greet each person and ask "dining in or to go?" Instead the lady waited for me and the next person to takk with her first. Then she asked if we knew what we wanted. If they fix this, your answer should be "to go". While the ambiance is lovely, the fact they make you buy bottles of drinks instead of having cups of water or other drinks available really decreases the value of sitting in and cheapens the experience. The restaurant ambiance is also marred by all the items for sale like a local market. Perhaps it makes it feel more genuine, but definitely makes it feel less fine dining. That and the music gets interrupted by what is likely alarms or timers on the phone playing music. Perhaps it shouldn't be thought of as fine dining, and more of a foreign family diner. The service was nearly non-existent. As mentioned before you had to proactively ask how things worked, there were no refills as it's just bottles ... and the bottles just sit in a fridge. Outside of that she sat at the front desk on her phone, though she did ask how everything was... once... after we got it. She also thanked us for coming when we left. It took about 10 minutes to get food... not bad since the food seemed fresh. That said the food was good enough. I've had better chicken shawarmas, but nothing tasted bad. It's slightly above average experience hence the rating. I wouldn't go so far as to say you must try this place, but I wouldn't say don't come here either. I hope they improve the experience over time. This review is meant as constructive criticism.

Last night was our opportunity and boy was it ever a memorable experience! Their website speaks of it being a colorful decor - and that is true both inside and out (see pictures)! We were warmly greeted and promptly seated - and asked if he could take our picture under the billowing, colorful ceiling (see picture). We started with a a round of drinks - my wife ordered the Ishtar's Revenge (see picture) and I went with the Yazmina (see picture). All of the cocktails are quite unique and we enjoyed both of these. As we started talking with our server, MJ - he looked familiar and his story sounded familiar. We asked and he confirmed that he used to own Gazali's in Clive, IA - a restaurant closer to our home that we enjoyed several times. MJ recommended the the Vegetarian Sampler Plate (see picture) for an appetizer and we loved it - offering the opportunity to sample several different Lebanese menu items on one plate. For our main courses, my wife ordered the Shawarma Chicken Pita Wrap (see picture) and I opted for the Combo Rice Plate (see picture), done spicy per MJ's suggestion. As we always do, we shared tastes of each of our dishes and loved them both! Lastly, the Jalab (rose and date infused water - see picture) caught my eye - so I ordered one of those to enjoy with my meal. Again, it is highly recommended! What visit to a Lebanese restaurant would be complete without Baklava (see picture), which MJ recommended that we enjoy with Turkish Coffees (see picture and video of pouring). We even got an education on how best to each the Baklava - pick it up with your fingers, take a bite, then keep that bite in your mouth while you take a sip of the Turkish Coffee - then enjoy! While it is hard not to enjoy Bakalava, it was even better when paired with the Turkish Coffee. If you found this review helpful, please Share, Follow & Like.

Add the bite of the pickles and both of these are superb sandwiches. The food truck had different sauces for each sandwich, that has changed. Just the one sauce now, but it is a lovely yogurt based bit of tastiness. We also got a side of falafel. Falafel is always hit and miss for me. This was a definite hit. Once again a wonderfully complex taste from something so simple. The wrap had a nice bit of crunch to it after being on the grill. This is not as long and involved as a lot of my reviews, but it doesn't need to be. It's a very small, simple menu, but oh my it is great. We will get back up there when we can, we hope that they will open a shop in Des Moines.
