St Mikes has gotten a bad rap. I've always felt the staff and facilities are top notch and they…read morekeep growing . Though sad that our older, much smaller local Harrison Hospital is no more, I understand there were economic reasons. . What we do have is a very modern, very gorgeous, and always growing medical facility! And I've recently learned there is a strong and binding mandate for non-religious affiliation despite the name. I love that my oncologist moved from a smaller, much older independent location in Poulsbo to a fully functional Oncology Center. Dr Sirisha Jain saved my husbands life diagnosing a one in a million auto-immune blood disease (and treated me the following year) and now she has the facilities and colleagues to work miracles on so many others! The realities of the understaffed, undersized ER and other departments Covid/post-covid have been and are being addressed with stable staffing replacing traveling nurses, the opening of urgent/emergency satellite locations and alternatives, and the development of residency and other training programs which are growing highly capable, local talent choosing to stay in our community . It was bad, and so was COVID; hopefully they'll be better prepared for the next major stress testing both by heart patients and our community as a whole! I had a 95 year old friend fall and shatter his hip. Surgery was attempted but there was not much that could have been done and he passed 2 weeks later. During those weeks, the care he received was world class! After a short stint on the orthopedic floor, he was transferred to the top for hospice. From the care and attention he and we received to the spacious, ultra modern suite with views of the water and mountains beyond, I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the last days of his life together. The medical wings with doctor offices, oncology, labs, imaging, plus the heliport if life-saving measures beyond what's available is needed, I feel very secure that the needs of the young as well as our aging population will be met from now and into the future. When I awoke confused after surgery performed in the last year at the old Bremerton location, I looked around, tried to get dressed to leave, and was questioned by a nurse who asked me where I thought I was. I said " Mexico?", think I must have been in a different country try with crumbling medical facilities! I've since learned that you can find high class care in many parts of Mexico, but point is you'd never be confused in our beautiful new building. Is it perfect? NO! But IMO, it's a shiny gem in our community.

I've had issues recently with a prescription sent in by my civilian provider not being received by NHB's system. Stephanie, one of the NHB pharmacists, has gone above and beyond to try to resolve the problem - even spending significant time coordinating with my doctor's office directly to work out the problem. Aside from the great care I've received from the pharmacy staff, I have to say that I love the convenience of the Rx text system. I've picked up prescriptions from both in-person at the Bangor pharmacy and at NHB's ScriptCenter in the parking garage. Both have been such great experiences! I have to say, though, that I love the NHB ScriptCenter most because it allows me to pick our stuff up 24/7. Considering that I'm working during pharmacy hours, this is the most unbelievably convenient setup. Every base pharmacy everywhere should utilize it. Overall, we really love NHB. We haven't had any issues mentioned in other reviews. Medical staff have been great, pharmacy staff are excellent, and the hospital's location is great. Not to mention that NHB is gorgeous and the view is epic. Would highly recommend!

First you must know that they keep deleting my review. I am a military spouse who delivered at this…read morefacility, and what I experienced was the worst medical care with beyond serious medical negligence I have ever received -- and I have had a successful C-section at another hospital, so I have a clear point of comparison. From the start I was dismissed, manhandled, and subjected to racist treatment. The anesthesiologist attempted my epidural five times while joking around and flirting with the nurse instead of focusing on the procedure. After he failed repeatedly, I told staff I could still feel everything and could still move -- I was ignored. I was then made to push against a closed cervix for four hours, which resulted in an emergency C-section that could have been avoided with basic competent care. During that C-section, I again told them I could feel. I was again dismissed. They began cutting while I was fully conscious and in complete agony. I was screaming on the table. I nearly died. At no point was I given informed consent -- for anything -- regarding myself or my baby. My newborn went two days without food because no one assisted me with breastfeeding or formula after major abdominal surgery. I had to physically get up and yell at staff before anyone helped. I scored a 16 on the postpartum depression screening following all of this. I was offered nothing -- no resources, no referral, no follow-up. When I raised concerns and mentioned legal action, a staff member told me to lift my shirt in the waiting room as a "check." They then refused to schedule my 6-week postpartum appointment entirely because I was 5 minutes early instead of 10. My c section scar actually opened and got infected. To this day, they are withholding my medical records -- which is a violation of federal law. I will be pursuing legal action regardless. I am sharing this so other military families know what they may face. What happened to me and my baby was not a series of mistakes -- it was a systemic failure of every standard of care, decency, and patient rights. I will keep posting this as people deserve to be warned. I will make all local news outlets aware as this is not getting addressed & I will seek legal action as they have over years refused to do anything to redeem themselves and this has deeply affected my health and wellbeing. This establishment should close it's doors as it is unacceptable for a place meant to heal people to be grounds for such horrors.

I checked out the website and it looked super easy. 5 stars for the operating room intake person. 4 stars for the clinic intake, i walked in and it's a little confusing where they want you to be, because they have a separate door, a card table for intake, but no one sitting there. Then they get upset (I saw this with 4 different people - who i pointed in the right direction) when you go looking for them to intake you. One star for the prep instructions, 2 days of clear liquid diet? I have never had that before, I couldn't believe it when I read it, twice!! 1 star for combative anesthesiologist who apparently doesn't like questions or believe in collaborative medicine. Plus it could because she was moonlighting here (she mentioned working at a hospital in Tacoma). During the course of the conversation she let it be known she was going to use the higher end of the dosage, which came into play later when the post op nurse lacked patience. Insisting the patient should stand up and get into the chair even though patient said they were dizzy and couldn't stand. In pre op, the dr performing the procedure was dismissive of patient concerns when they explained some difficulties previous Dr's had experienced. Dr was highly confident that their extremely skilled hands would not have similar issues. Which calls into question the reason provided for needing to come back in a year. The dr was not able to complete the procedure with a claim due to poor prep, although discharge paperwork says clean colon with pictures of a clean colon. Not sure what it all means because the dr was too busy for post op conversation with me or the patient. When the patient was released, they were very unstable. It took two of us to safely get them to the car. Based upon my first hand experience and observations, I know I will be looking for a different dr.

The staff were kind-hearted and proficient finding polyps requiring a colectomy at St Michael's thankfully 100% covered by Medicare benefits also springing for respite care on Bainbridge Island afterward where they moved me to a private room when my first roommate played the television all night long. The other day I got my follow-up colonoscopy (from the same crew of friendly physicians) that went just as smoothly as the first time if not better. The surgery at St. Michaels looked good, but I need to eat more fiber. Recently moving I started eating out while unpacking, falling in love with Indian food, so I've got a larder stocked with chicken tikka masala after the recent passing of inventor Ali Ahmed Aslam. Tonight I tried a different simmering sauce. So now I'm apparently flushing my system properly with rice and a happy camper at the moment. Since the colonoscopy prep instructions forbid brown rice, should I eat that instead of boil-in-a-bag long grained white rice for the fiber until my next colonoscopy in five years? During my month rehabilitating from surgery, I housed my cat at Alder Creek Pet Lodge for $900 after tip.

I feel it is reasonable to expect a medical provider to tell you when you are not covered, and I was not told. When I called, the receptionist was very pessimistic about the appointment and told me the earliest I could get in was three weeks later. She told me that my first appointment would only be for an evaluation and not to fix the tooth. After the evaluation, I would need another appointment to have it fixed. Then she would schedule a cleaning, which was booked out until May 2021. She was not at all friendly, but I figured it's during covid, tensions are high, and perhaps it was just a personality thing. While I should have taken all of those signs as red flags, given we already had a family status with this practice, I booked the appointment and lived with a gap in my front tooth for three weeks. Upon showing up for my appointment, they had no record of it and couldn't get me in for another week. Between the initial conversation and the poor booking experience, I'm very disappointed, very irritated, and will be finding another dentist.
