Great sports park and so much history. The tower was closed for renovation so we couldn't go up but I think that would have been a great view. The stadium tours were off for the week due to Metallica concerts but it was cool that we got to listen to them warm up. You could hear them all over the park. Enjoyed seeing so many of the Olympic spaces like the pool and arena. Great place for an afternoon. read more

Olympic Park is ginormous. It is a nice park to walk around or relax in, and there are plenty of recreational activities possible here. You can see the old olympic sporting facilities here, like the swimming pool that you can actually swim in when it is open to the public. read more

Aside from getting a little lost, I had an enjoyable morning walking through the Munich Olympic Park. Built for the 1972 Summer Games, it's a fabulous park that should be a triumph but instead is overshadowed by the terrorist attack in which eleven Israeli athletes and coaches and a West German police officer were killed. The park is beautiful and full of innovative architecture including the swimming hall and stadium that are built with canopies of acrylic glass stabilized by metal ropes. There are a couple of restaurants, some parks for playing, the tall Olympiaturm, paddleboats and more to see and do. You can definitely make a day of it here. The Soviet Union won the most medals, both overall (99) and gold (50) with the United States in a close second place with 94 and 33 respectively. Went to see Taylor swift it was by far the worst planned event. We waited over 2 hours in line with no instruction. The ticket scanners went down and created ideal conditions for a stamped. It was extremely dangerous. Bathrooms and food/drink stands were minimal with extreme waits. Also the park around was extremely littered with basically no trash cans. Their even planner needs to be changed. The stadium was obviously not fit for this size crowd. The actual concert was amazing though. read more

I visited here in 1992, and was super impressed. I mean, when else was I ever going to go to a place where the actual Olympics occurred?!?! I was an exchange student, just out of high school, when I visited. Our group walked around the grounds a bit, played mini golf, went up in the observation tower, and got to swim in the pool! Oh, what a beautiful and spacious area - I only wish that we had more time to spend at Olympiapark to see more of it. We had enjoyed a museumm across the street and decided to walk across it to Olympiapark and take a look, because the idea of walking around a place where the Olympics occurred sounded wonderful. We were trying to do as much as we could in Munich with the little time we had. We were not disappointed in what we saw - only that we didn't have time to see all of it! There was an event going on, so the place was very lively. Lots of people, at first. But as you walked through, the people lessened, and it got quieter. There were a lot of runners/joggers - and I could imagine that this is a phenomenal place to do that. I also imagine that this park would be absolutely great for picnics when the weather is nicer. I would definitely return and see more as I know that there is so much more Olympiapark has to offer. read more

Olympiapark in Munich was a last minute stop on our way back from a day trip Regansberg. We wanted to check out the sunset on top of Olympiaberg Hill. We luckily pulled into the parking garage located right off of Lerchenauer Straße just across the highway from the BMW headquarters. We quickly made our to get up to Olympiaberg monument on olympiapark hill. It was a brisk walk since we maybe had 15 too 20 minutes tO catch the sunset. While making our way through the grounds and up to the top the grounds are spectacularly maintained. As we crested our way for the top we made it just in time and the views from up top are tremendous. Not only was the sunset amazing seeing the olympiapark from this vantage point were breathtaking! Once the glamor of the sunset tamed itself we walk the grounds a bit to take check the different areas of the park while it was twilight. Truly amazing even after all these year. I would recommend a trip to take the Sunset or sunrise in. read more

Beautiful park! Clean, wide and spacious! This park was built for the 1972 Olympic Games and is one of most noticeable landmarks in Munich. We were trying to kill some time and decided to try and catch a sunset from here. There's a man made lake on ground and nearby a "hill" made from all the war rubble. Of course that rubble is now covered to create this "hill" and you'd never know that underneath it all are remnants of buildings and destruction. Today its a vast, rolling green hill where you can see people sprawled about admiring a Munich sunset. Olympic Stadium still remains and at the time of our visit it appeared that concert promoters were setting up for an upcoming concert. This park is quite busy as we saw tons of people running, biking, strolling and kids just running around enjoying the fall weather. Super clean and felt quite safe. Parking was easy. read more

Germany hosted the Olympics in 1972. I always find it interesting to visit old Olympic parks so we made a point to stop by. These areas held so much pride, honor and excitement. Dreams were made along with tons of money. What's left is a mixture of dying buildings and history worth remembering. So many of the gaming structures are not needed anymore and for some the massive area becomes a strain for the city to maintain. Some old parks sell off some of the structures and others let things go to ruins. I thought that it was nice that a private school in my area purchased the pool that was built for the Olympic games in Atlanta. It would be nice to see more items repurposed. Thankfully Munich turned the area into a lovely multipurpose recreation center that is well used and loved. On the day that we visited a music festival and old time carnival was going on. We had loads of fun exploring the area and enjoying the festivities. read more

The grounds are huge. Walk straight in a ways and you'll see the Village/apartments where the athletes stayed. Go further and see one of the three memorials to the eleven people killed by terrorists. The Israeli memorial is the mushroom shaped one. Read here about the athletes and their backgrounds. See a video. These were wonderful men with degrees, families and aspirations, including the police officer. The Olympic buildings with their glass roofs and external support structures are amazing. Go inside them. We went to the stadium which was worth the 3.50. You can ride up the Needle and see the view for eight euros. Glad we went. Handicapped assessable. This is a beautiful park. It's so easy to get here by train and it's easy to get around. We didn't even get through all the park because it was a pretty gloomy rainy day when we went. I really wish we got to the roof climb of the stadium (http://www.olympiapark.de/en/home/tours-sightseeing/guided-tours/) or at least get to walk into the stadium. We did walk around the swimming pool and could look in on it from the top level and see some people doing lap swim. Overall its a great place to stretch your legs and of course, there is a beer garden. Where in Munich is there not? Conveniently, we went to the BMW Museum right after our stroll. read more

The most lovely place to be during the summers. It's a huge, beautiful park with a small lake in the centre and the sunset view point at the top of a hill. Amazing place for a day picnic with family and friends. It also has the Olympic Stadion, open to visitors for a small fee, a theme park for kids and the Olympiahalle where concerts are held. read more

Take a wandering stroll into Olympiapark or make several laps running through, the park is large and can be shared with both runners, cyclists and strollers. Perfect for a light picnic on the fields or watch dogs play amongst each other, I would not miss the park since the Olympiapark was constructed for the summer 1972 Olympics. Great tennis courts in the Olympiapark. Played my first game here since arriving in Europe almost two years ago and loved the place. Clay courts that are well maintained and in great condition. Nice little biergarten and change facilities next to the courts and easy to book and play. There are heaps of courts and they all look well kept and maintained. It is about the third time I have played on clay courts and must admit this was the best one by far. In Australia most of the courts are turf or grass and it is hard to find clay courts and as a result the ones you find are also poorly maintained. This place however is really well maintained and there was no sign of holes in the court and it was a pleasure to play my first game in Europe in such wonderful surroundings :-) Will definitely come back here regularly. Must try the tennis coaches and see what they are like soon :-) Need a few lessons after not having played for almost two years ;-)) read more

Even in the rain, I liked this place. Very easy to get to by the U-Bahn and convenient to the BMW museum, this is what all grounds should look like after a city has hosted the Olympics. I mean, have you seen some of the pictures of the structures from Beijing? They look awful and that was only about 5 years ago! Anyway, if I lived in Munich, I would love to come run or work out here. The layout is gorgeous and when I was there, there was a lot of activity. There was an active indoor soccer facility, the natatorium was packed and the Sea Life museum was bustling. Joggers and walkers filled the paths surrounding the venues. It was very pretty and it looks like it's still well used, unlike places such as Montreal. I'd love to come back here on a sunny day so I didn't get soaked through to the bone and explore more of the park. I was very impressed. One note: there's a big hill that overlooks the Stadium and the lake and the Swimming Center. It's fun to climb and you get great views of Munich (although it was cloudy when I went up). However, a lot of the paths up the hill are cobblestone and they are super slippery when wet, so if it's raining, use caution or else you may end up on your ass. read more

The site of the 1972 Olympics the park is still in use today. It was amazing to see this place so much history here after reading about all that transpired. The view from the top of the tower is the best I've ever seen! It was somewhat rainy the day I was here however it made a lasting impression. I can't believe how well Munich has maintained their Olympic Park! It's been totally converted into a useable urban park with a wonderful little fair, food stands, and beer gardens of course. You pay a deposit for your plates when you order food or steins when you order beer, so you can take them anywhere throughout the park & you get your deposit back when you return them. We ordered food & took our goodies to a shady hill for lunch by the lake, it was so beautiful. Walking around & people watching was the best part of being out here. There's a hill you can hike up that isn't too strenuous & there's an awesome view from the top. You can see the entire Olympic stadium and the rest of the park from there. The metro stop for the Olympic Park is the same one for the BMW World & BMW Museum, so make it a day trip & check out some of these cool places outside of Munich city center! read more

Awesome experience. You can go there enjoy everything from carnival rides, food and drink to scenic views to the aquarium and tower. My husband and I got a late lunch there (from two different vendors) and some beers. After our lunch we just walked around and enjoyed the gorgeous sights. Wouldnt change that day for anything. You could spend the entire day in the park and do as many (or little) kid friendly things that you wanted to do. I highly suggest finding a spot by the water, grabbing a beer and enjoying the view. read more

This park is right next to the BMW museum so while in the area I decided to go check it out, the very unique thing about this park is it's really huge and historical because when the Olympics came to Germany this was one of the areas where many events took place and the stadiums are still preserved and are still in use from what I could see, there is also a big stadium where there are concerts still, there is a big restaurant in the middle of the park which is good, there is a big lake in the middle of the park which is cool too and looks great, I don't know how large the park is but I walked a lot of it and still felt like there is a lot I didn't get to see, to me the highlight was hiking along the path to the top of this hill that overlooks the whole park and has many great views read more

Good place to walk around, and it never closes if you're just walking around the outside. It's somewhat confusing to figure out exactly what's going on, but the swimming pool was open when I went around 5:30PM on a Wednesday afternoon. There were people actually swimming in it! I wonder how they got to do that. In any case, nice place to walk around; it would've probably more interesting if I could've gone into the hall or the stadium itself, but just looking at the structures was cool too! read more

Definitely a nice place to stroll through, especially as the sun is setting. There's spot at the top of the fake hills where everyone congregates to take some fantabulous pictures. I didn't get a chance to take a boat out in the lake at the center, but I would have liked to. Very active. read more

The Munich 1972 Olympic Park is wonderful. The green areas are lovely, the architecture is very interesting and even the apartment buildings that were built for the original Olympic Village look like the kind of place I'd like to live. I was lucky enough to visit during the 40th anniversary celebrations of the original 1972 Olympics, which coincided nicely with the London 2012 Olympics taking place in my neighbourhood, so perhaps I am a bit biased, but if you're in Munich it's definitely worth a visit, and while you're here you can also visit BMW Welt and the BMW Museum :) read more

Extensive, beautiful park that once was home to the 1972 Olympic Games. There remains a lot of impressive modern architecture featuring "warped" glass curtain roofs. There is a large observation tower, but we did not go up it. Lakes, biking paths, large grass hills, and now concert venues in the old stadiums - it has been put to great use. Gorgeous views of stadium from top of tower, especially during fall foliage season. Small rock 'n' roll museum at top of tower, too. Very unusual and challenging miniature golf course (a must!); chat with the gentleman at cash register, whose father started this business many years ago. We loved seeing gigantic swimming pool and enormous ice skating rink. On day of our visit, there was a free huge sports Expo in one building. Memorial stone seemed inadequate and boat rental was closed (disappointing). A good break on a sunny day; how many consecutive days can we spend in castles & palaces?! read more

This park while beautiful and historic is not up to modern standards of administration and management. I tried to swim in the pool and was told they only took cash for the entrance fee. When I asked if there was an ATM the attendant said no. I saw a point of sale device on the desktop but was told it didn't work. I left and found an ATM only a few hundred yards away but it was out of commission. The gift shop at the base of the tower has a 35 ECU minimum to use a credit/ATM card. Amazing in that Europe as a whole has been pretty much a cashless society for decades. read more

Great park for a walk to get away from the city - We came to Olympia Park to visit the Star Wars Identities exhibit that was housed in one of the former Olympic venues. The park is spacious and well laid out. The Olympic Schwimmhalle is open to the public. Your average pool does not have a 10 Meter platform diving board! read more
