We were on the hunt for another Christmas Market, this one nestled in the shadow of Sendlinger Tor, one of the city's remaining City Gates. We started the morning at Marienplatz, then walked from there to the Tor, not really knowing what to expect.
It was Christmas Eve, and the last day of this particular market. It was also a bit early in the morning, so most of the stalls were still closed up tight when we arrived.
We did walk around the open area (or rather, the place the housed the market stalls) a bit, then took a bit of a stroll around the neighborhood closest to Sendlinger Tor, but there wasn't really much to see or experience.
It was a quick visit, and I felt a bit sad about walking away before the stalls opened, but we had several hours before things officially opened, and there wasn't much to do.
We did end up (accidentally) going back later that same day, as we'd just kept walking from Marienplatz and ended back up at the gate (without really realizing it at first; we'd gone by a different route, and didn't make the connection that this was the same market until we were in the middle of it).
I'm glad we went, but I think our timing was just off. I'd like to think it was way more lively every other day before this, the last day they were open. read more
