When my friends and I decided to stop at a local park to enjoy some food together, we didn't expect to plop down on one of the most disappointingly grim strips of grass in the Western Hemisphere. To call it a park would be seriously stretching what seems to be a landing strip for the blossoming crackheads and sexual predators of Alamosa. When it comes to the defining features of this park, the list is overwhelmingly negative and quite frankly, difficult to get through. The picnic tables serve as storage spaces seemingly reserved for all the drug paraphernalia in Alamosa County. This "park" advertises itself as kid-friendly. I guess it is, if your kid enjoys watching the cars roll by on one of the most boring highways in the state of Colorado. Other than that, there's not much else to do here, because any sports equipment will go flying over the fence and get run over, probably to the severe disappointment of your child. Not only would I not bring my child here, but I would advise them to stay as far away from it as possible. Maybe I'll have my kid's 6th birthday party here if I get a sudden urge to have him and all of his friends get abducted by one of the local park dwellers that seem to have a hankering for staring at people. As I look to my right, I see a war memorial. My only contention is that the people being memorialized here are either traitors or Nazis, because this memorial might be the most direct sign of disrespect to our fallen heroes aside from spitting on their graves. Lastly, as my friend pointed out that there was an open gate leading straight onto the highway, at first I was disgusted by the lack of thought that went into this feature. However, my negative perception of this open gate quickly switched to an open sea of serenity as the crack smoke cleared and walking into this highway seemed a sweet release from this disgrace of a park. read more
