They checked me out and started some treatment to get things corrected. Things weren't proceeding as expected, so rather than actually admit me and get me in a personal room like I've had at other hospitals, they send me to ICU, which I wasn't actually ICU material, even they said that, they just needed the ER bed. So we move. The nurse here was awesome. Can't recall her name. At shift change that morning, the next nurse tried to be funny and we responded, but a bit later things turned. Aggravated my wife and I a bit. She was nice enough tho. What gets me is they ask the same darn questions that were asked of me on the first shift. Do they not write this stuff down? This particular line of questioning was about medication and why I'd stopped taking it, this particular nurse asked that same question 3 bloody times!!! Ugh, just fix the issue and stop worrying about the "why" of something that does not concern them nor relate to this issue! Oh, and the visiting hours, seriously, what hospital still has visiting hours? 7 a.m. to 7 p..m.? They tried to chase my wife out saying the patients needed the rest, I raised a big fuss. Her being there was helping to relieve stress. She was a nice distraction against constant alarms, and staff coming in and out, and the gaggle of nurses laughing and talking like they are at a night club somewhere. Once my wife left, which she did end up staying till 9:45 p.m., well after their 7 p.m. curfew, all of those annoyances were compounded. I couldn't get any sleep because the darn alarms on the heart monitor flash this strobe light and sound off this constant beeping every 15-30 seconds, the excessively bright light coming from the nurses station through the windows was ridiculous, I'd even close the curtain to block it and they'd come in and move it, the nurses laughing and carrying on even at 2 a.m. in the morning without any consideration for quietness, staff entering every hour it seems.... oh, and the cleaning staff, between 6-7 a.m. coming in to clean!! That's rediculous!!! Breakfast doesn't even come that early. To top that off the cleaning lady cleans the toilet and the same gloves she used to clean the toilet are the same ones she uses to move my water bottle, touch the door handle and other items in the room. Wicked gross. Supposed to go to the hospital to healthy, not acquire another disease from lack of attentiveness to what they are doing with other disease causing areas.

ER staff were loud, unprofessional and appeared to be having a party rather than tending patients! The only nurse who didn't join in the noise was Thomas and the admission lady! I've never been so afraid in my entire life by the look of terror in her eyes as she gripped me and gasped repeatedly for air. The first time I thought maybe she was just having a panic attack, which she's never had before, but she had the symptoms. I stayed calm and instructed her to practice deep breathing, and after 10-15 minutes we got through it and she was able to go to sleep. But then about an hour later she woke up again doing the same thing. I immediately threw clothes on us both and took the 4 minute drive to the ER at Kell West Regional Hospital. We checked in about 2:20 AM and I let them know what was going on. I had her lie down on a bench and, fortunately, she was able to go back to sleep while we waited. Over 2 1/2 hours later, at 5 AM, she still had not been called back to a room, triaged, or checked on at all. I knew once we did eventually get to a room it would be at least an hour or longer before we'd be seen, and at this point she had woken up and seemed a lot better, so I decided to just go home so we could get some good rest and make an appt with her doctor a few hours later. Had we gotten home and she had another episode, I would have just called 911. At least that way paramedics would make sure she was taken care of in a timely manner. I'm not normally one to publicly complain like this, but I feel it is important to let others know so they don't make the same mistake. We've been to Kell West a few times before and were always treated pretty unkindly, if not downright rudely, and we've never felt we got adequate care. I only went back because it was a short drive and I thought surely we would be assisted in a timely manner based on her condition. This was the final straw for me. I'm sending in a complaint to Texas Health & Human Services, and I refuse to ever step foot in there again. Honestly, I don't even know if their neglect is illegal or not, but it very well should be. You take a child to the ER telling them she literally cannot breathe and they don't even send someone to take a couple minutes to check on her?! Absolutely absurd and inhumane. Thank God she is OK! I prayed over and over the whole time. Her doctor prescribed her a steroid to help the swelling go down and she is finally breathing somewhat normally now. Shame on you, Kell West!!!
