I am an action figure collector, and Ollie's has become legendary over the years as a place where many toys would go on heavy discount (in one case a $125-ish toy being reduced down to about $50) and I was always sad that I did not have an Ollie's less than two hours away from me in Union County. Now after many years of regret, Ollie's has finally opened a store within a respectable driving distance of me! This store is HUGE and reminds me of discount stores I used to go to in the past such as National Wholesale Liquidators and Job Lot in NYC. I was impressed by how extensive certain sections were including an entire corner of the store dedicated to books! I was also happy to see that not everything on discount were old off brands. There are a ton of brand name items in this store (ex: Irish Spring Soap). The store embraces its "discount" message to the point where it even uses giant paper banners over displays to draw your attention instead of something professionally printed. There's a certain Kitschness to the store that I really appreciate. The prices are also very good. I did find one or two action figures that were anywhere from 40-60% off original retail price. A lot of the food items I saw were definitely about 30%+ below what you would see in a supermarket. I did subtract one star because the LINE was insane. I was there in the late morning and the line to get to a cashier looked like something out of Marshall's or Burlington. I only wanted to buy one item and after enough time passed I gave up. The discount wasn't worth standing 15 mins on line. Hopefully Ollie's can set up some type of fast check out lane or something to help expedite the line. I do intend to go back and hopefully I'll have a more positive experience in this regard in the future.

It's a large discount store. Many items were reasonably priced. It's quite a distance from my home but it's worth the trip.

It's been around for as long as I can remember, and until I walked in recently had no idea it was still in business. Specifically, it's a purveyor of used books: I spent a good 15 minutes browsing and I couldn't find a single book published in the last 5 years. (Many of the dusty yellowing tomes appear to be from before I was born.) It seems like a good place to find old magazines and discontinued mass market paperbacks, particularly in the sci-fi/fantasy genre. In terms of ambience and decor, it's really less of a bookstore than an uncle's basement man cave which has been converted into a walk-in storage unit for forgotten books that have spent years soaking up the cigarette smoke of the owner, who in all fairness seems nice enough. There's a very worn armchair in the backroom if you need to sit down. If you're a commuter, you won't ever notice this bookstore unless the door is open and a cardboard box of paperbacks is sitting on a folding table outside. Only cash and check are accepted, though it's not entirely clear how the place generates enough revenue to stay in business.

After starting to drink it... I realized that this is the one of the worst cups of coffee I had ever attempted to consume. The barista had over over over frothed the milk and it literally tasted like butter. It was gross and not drinkable. I waited in line again and I said "this coffee isn't very good. May I please have a black iced coffee instead?" (This is the simplest easiest drink I could think of. I didn't want to trouble her.). She replies... "what's wrong with it?" Me... "it tastes like a stick of butter" Her..."it's supposed to taste that way. It's frothed milk." Me... "No it's not. I have made and drank many cappuccinos and they are not supposed to taste like a stick of butter. I literally can not drink this." Her... "whatever sir... they are supposed to taste like that...but if you want something else, I'll have to give to you a refund." Me... "the iced coffee and the cappuccino are the same price... does that matter?" Her..."sir. Don't be rude. I'm trying to help you." Then she mumbles under her breath... "I'm not dealing with this shit today." Me... "ma'am why are you being so rude? I can obviously hear you mumbling." Her...again..."I'm trying to help you sir. Go wait over there" Then... she mumbles under her breath more... Makes me an iced coffee with so much ice she can't even put the lid on... and basically throws it at me. I am a regular customer at Starbucks in Long Branch. I worked in food service for 2 decades and have owned restaurants. I am the most polite coffee customer imaginable and this woman was just an awful person to deal with in every way. The coffee was really bad too. I hope someone in charge there sees this and has a word with her.

This has literally been my local B&N for years & I know the layout of the store etc. My problem didn't stem from the products in store, I actually made out with an incredible deal with two chargers retailed for $99 & being sold for only $6! No, my problem stemmed from the rude af girl behind the cash register who berated me with her feminist/woke attitude I definitely did not deserve. All I said was that I have been shopping at that location for years & knew the stores layout very well, & she immediately adopted the most sarcastic, smart ass attitude with me & definitely was trying to make me feel uncomfortable. I kept my composure & stood through her lackluster explanation of a book series I already had no interest in, basically because I was still trying to process why she had an attitude with me in the first place lmao. I walked around the store for a couple minutes & decided to check out. She comes back up to the counter & ask me if I picked out the book she had suggested. I said no. She continues to start the process of ringing me up & noticed the $99 chargers are on sale for an incredible $6. I go on to explain how before I was telling her very helpful co worker how I'm very skilled at finding deals. She more or less tried to silence me talking bout "Hold on I need to focus on this". Focus on what? Reducing the price??? Then after I get out what I have to say, she hits me with the most sarcastic "GOOD FOR YOU"... lol. Her coworker was extremely helpful btw & didn't have any attitude what's so ever. Anywho.. I pay for my items & the girl Kyna (girl behind the counter) tries to play me saying " Would you be fine not receiving a bag, cause I don't have any big ones ". Come on now... You already started off very disrespectful, but tryna have me leave the store without offering me a shopping bag is flat out rude & unprofessional. I asked if they have smaller bags & low & behold she pulls out a bag that's perfectly sized for the items I purchased. I wanted to laugh at how unprofessional she was conducting herself with something as remedial as a shopping bag. I wished her a great day & thanked her & walked out. Always keep it classy. & now here I am on yelp with this stellar review B&N piece of advice, be mindful of the woke employees you decide to have ring up customers. You never know who's gonna walk through the door & who will take the time to shout them out on a bad yelp review.

Apparel was not folded but worse, was that the ceramic coffee mug was dropped in the same way...even with the bag sitting on the counter. Rutgers apparel choices have significantly improved since my last trip here 5 years ago. I recently graduated and bought apparel from the store. About 1.5 weeks later I realized that I probably wasn't going to wear it and went to the store to return it -- with the tags still attached and with the original receipt. The woman at the register refused to take it back. She said there's a no refund policy on sales items....okay but I didn't buy any of this on sale? I showed her how the receipt and tag were the same price, to prove I paid full price and didn't get any discount. She still wouldn't do the return, or even let me exchange it and didn't explain why. I wasn't about to stand there and argue with a teenager so I left. I called later and explained that I wanted to return items and wasn't able to, and was told that in general, the store doesn't do returns. At all. Obviously this isn't true, as I returned items before. The person on the phone tells me "I've worked here for two years, i would know that we don't do returns". I honestly could not care less how long you worked there. The receipt clearly states that you have a return policy. There's a bunch of stores in the area that sell Rutgers gear, it's less of a hassle to go to them instead of here.

Mike the owner is very accommodating and it very fair to sellers when making offers to buy their books. (Often explaining how much they would be resold for an makes a reasonable offer based on that price). Mike and Jackie have excellent knowledge about Comics, Toys and Funco Pops and serious collectors shop there weekly because of them. I'm at a total loss for why there are some bad reviews here, Yes they have a sign that they are always buying, but you are best calling ahead and asking when the owner is in (which is almost all the days). As he is the one that will make the best offer and he really knows what sells well and doesn't. (Avoid Sundays and Mondays if you are there to sell your collection). Word to the wise, when selling a collection, it is always best to call ahead, see when the best time to visit is and see if they are interested in your collection. If they are, this is a great place to deal with as you won't get robbed. Naturally they are a business and need to stay profitable and need to buy at a rate that allows them to mark it up, but you aren't going to walk in with a rare comic that is worth $500 and walk out with 20 dollars, I've seen Mike buy and he is very honest. (Sometimes that means that he has to refuse to buy items that he can't sell, and other times people walk out with much more than expected. A reviewer complained about parking during a snow storm. My feeling is that the person with the car parking problem wasn't even dealing with the people who own the comic shop, probably from another business or an irate person who is a customer of the vacuum shop. Another reviewer said that they didn't feel comfortable there and I find this hard to fathom, I've always felt comfortable there and noticed that they treat their regular customers like family, often knowing about them, their jobs and families and remembering to ask them about things that they have shared about their lives (Changing Jobs, Children's health, Weddings, loss of family members, etc.).

This place sells fake signature books and misleads customers. I will never shop here again.read more
