I really love this shop. It's brimming with goodies in comic and graphic novels, games, dice, model…read moreand mini paint, etc. There's a comfy seating area, there's snacks and drinks for cheap. It has a model and mini painting room, and it's used for gaming Thursdays and Thursdays. Warhammer, etc. is there on Thursdays. Regular board gaming is there on both nights, but the bulk of the room is reserved for tabletop RPG. There's an additional gaming room in the front. The people that come there to play are are great, the shop is extremely well-run, the staff is great. They do special orders and card trading. They carry some gently used items. And there's a purchase stamp program. Anyways, my brother used to take me, his baby sis, with him to the comic book shop every Tuesday when I was little, and read them to me, so I like checking out any shop I run into in my travels and moves to other states for a touch of home. Castle Perilous is among the most welcoming, and is among the best stocked in each category while still having a lot of variety. Smart use of the square footage. It's impressive.

I asked why it was so much when I was told it was going to be significantly cheaper prior, I was asked if I was a preferred member, I asked how I would know and was told " you would know if you were". Apparently the $90 price was only if you prepaid for the items this was never said over the phone, I skipped cheaper product at other stores because of this. The deal was not offered and was pretty much told oh well should have prepaid. Thanks Castle, I want to like the place as it's the closest with a big selection but it's not worth giving my money to a place that won't honor a deal they had in place.

LOVE that there is a Barnes & Noble in the town I moved to. I think Barnes & Noble stores are a…read morefantastic place to buy a tea or coffee and book or magazine, and forget about life. Time stops, and I can honestly say I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I get excited about a magazine, a newspaper, a comic book, a romance, a crime thriller series, etc to where I want to learn and know more. With every book, magazine, or newspaper, I bought the right to mark up a book for my enlightenment and expand my knowledge. I am a life learner. And Barnes & Noble feeds that addiction. Why doesn't someone live in a Barnes & Noble, like the Capital One guy? I can't put a price on education. Getting a membership helps save money!

This was the first Barnes and Noble in the area growing up. It was an almost magical place. I had…read morebeen a frequent visitor to Walden Books in the malls when that was still a thing. Nothing compared to B&N though. The number of books they had as a kid was just mind numbing. I would spend hours looking at the comics and manga before buying some SF or fantasy book. These days I tend to just use libraries or local, non-chain bookstores. However there is still some nostalgia for this store. This location is a decent size, well maintained, and has a good selection. I've never had any issues with the staff. I haven't gotten anything from the cafe so I can't comment on it.

I like this store! Cherokee Street businesses have funny days and hours of operation. I've made a…read moretrip there when 2/3 of the stores were closed. I recently made it to Hammond's Books for the first time in several years. I'd forgotten exactly where it was on the street, and I passed it as I drove by - the business name on the awning might not catch your eye until it is too late. It looks a little different inside - perhaps cleaner, or perhaps just a little cuter. This is what I picture when I think of a used bookstore. It's the most Neverending Story-like bookstore in St. Louis. It feels like Hammond's must have the same number of books as Dunaway, but crammed into a smaller space, which is kind of cool for the non-claustrophobic. You can search their website for detailed information on their holdings, but be sure to call before stopping by, as they use several places for storage and the book(s) you want might be off-site. The vintage novel I wanted was not off-site, however, so that was lucky. I think the paperback was something like $5.00 and it had the coolest, most dated cover art. The employees were very nice. You really get the feeling that their employees know and love their books. The woman who helped me mentioned that she'd recently read a book by my author, who was popular a half-century ago and is largely forgotten by the Oprah's-only reading public these days. Turns out I'd just read the same book. It was truly refreshing to have a brief exchange about how good it was. I normally don't get that kind of connection with people over the books I read because I don't meet people who have read them. I don't read books to connect with other readers, but when it happens, it's kind of nice. I saw no signs of a cat, though. Thanks, Hammond's!

Absolutely amazing selection of rare and collectible books. And the interior is stunning. Well…read moreworth a day trip to Cherokee St to appreciate this local gem.
