Wanaka has become a super busy tourist destination over the past decade, which has unfortunately brings crowds of people. Overall The Moorings is a decent value for money place to stay. Originally built in 1898, you can still see some of the original structure but by the sounds of things the hotel was extended and refurbished in 1920's. The rooms are relatively small - but not in a claustrophobic sort of way - and most have their own hand basins (the toilets and showers are communal). Towels, flannels and bathrobes are supplied but no shampoo, conditioner or body wash - bar a soap dispenser in the shower. The restaurant attached to the hotel serves up all you're typical pub fare - nachos and fish and chips - but it also has a few more adventurous offers like chicken parmagaina and pork belly. Rest assured, whatever you order, the portion will be huuuuge. My vegetarian lasagna totally hit the spot. It came topped with a good helping of cheese and stuffed full of pumpkin. The tomato sauce was a tad sweet for my liking but all in all a pleasurable meal - particularly after a 4 hours bike ride! Special mention must also be made of the service, which was brilliant despite the restaurant being choccas. As charming of a town as it is, I unfortunately don't think I will be returning to Omakau anytime soon but if I do, I know exactly where I will be staying!

The cocktails were superb and original and the team definitely knew what they were doing. Unfortunately the evening was ruined by horrifically slow service (Note to the managers: This is costing you money). There were only two staff members working, but there were only 8 tables or so. Definitely come here for a drink, but don't be in a rush.

From the moment we stepped through the doors we felt so taken care of after a long week of road tripping. He was quick to assist us in a room request and he also went out of our way to bring us wine and chocolate as we were celebrating our engagement. The rest of the staff from valet to cleaning services was also incredible and so accommodating. The room was very comfortable and the proximity to the lake is unbeatable. It is a bit outside of the CBD but it was so close to so many incredible restaurants and shops it didn't matter. They also have a water taxi that can take your down to the cbd. We would definitely recommend this place for a stay in Queenstown. We will never forget how special our stay was.

Early 2000 decor despite ~2011 opening. Location. Nothing in less than 30 minutes walking distance as far as non hotel bars/restaurants. The hotel seemed generally clean however there was a very large cockroach in our room. Probably a good place to stay if need a night a night close to airport.
