We stayed in a studio which has some pretty rad views, it's clean, and friendly service. If you have stayed next door in the lakeside apartments you will be disappointed in the quality, but hey it's half the price! The only drawback for me was the lower quality build means there is some traffic noise from the road out front. Wanaka has become a super busy tourist destination over the past decade, which has unfortunately brings crowds of people. Overall The Moorings is a decent value for money place to stay. But if your not so worried about what comes out of the wallet, hit up lakeside apartments... best place in town for sure!!

The hotel has a lovely looking leisure pool & also a lap pool, the former is heated so even in cooler weather it could be nice to take a dip. The studio room that I was allocated was pleasant enough. That said I was disappointed with the extras provided. The toiletries were randomly just shampoo & moisturiser. There was no pen or paper provided either which is usually a given in a hotel of this standard. I had an issue with my shower cubicle not draining the water away very efficiently & found the bathroom floor had become somewhat of a swimming pool during the short shower I took. I reported the problem to reception as a mop to soak up the mini lake would have been useful. Sadly no one ever materialised so I had to use all available towels to address the problem. The wifi was very disappointing & generally worked better outdoors than in my room. I felt that $22 for the continental breakfast was a very steep price as the choice was quite limited. I was very glad that I hadn't paid the extra money for the hot breakfast as this appeared to consist of just 5 items. Personally I wouldn't stay here again as the location is not great & possibly accommodation that is better value for money exists closer to the town.

The views of Lake Hawea are fabulous and every room has pretty much the same view. The room was very comfortable, large and airy with a small deck and chairs accessible through a sliding glass door. Sue does the cooking and created vegetarian meals for us that were interesting and tasted outstanding. Mike, who has led a fascinating life and has a wealth of knowledge, did most of the guest interaction and was a joy to sit down with and have a drink and perhaps even a cigar. If you sit outside at at night and it's cloudless you'll be treated to a star show second to none. Finally, their cattle dog Roy is just a treat and loves, like most dogs, a good ear scratch. Highly recommended for a quiet, peaceful, relaxing time.
