I remember once coming in to see Dr. Hentek with a chest and sinus infection. She saw me, gave me a perscription and left the office. When she came back in the exam room, she noticed I was in pain and couldn't stand. She asked me about it and wrote me a perscription for that as well. . Dr. Hentek saw that I was in pain and treated me for that distress. I'm thankful for her genuine concern. I realized that it didn't occur to me to ask her about anything for my back because I'd been told that the pain would pass by another physician and that I should just take Alieve. I'm a person of color and as such, I've experienced doctors who are hesitant to perscribe pain medication so I subconsiously didn't ask even though I was in the doctor's office. I have changed general physicians though. I had a visit with Dr. Hentek after I'd lost a significant amount of weight 30+ lbs. Dr. Hentek made a comment to me about making an effort to loose more. I shared my regiment and told her about the results I'd had in the previous months and instead of suggesting alternate options she just told me about the negative effects of excess weight and told me to loose more. Of course I have some idea of the negative effects of excess weight otherwise I wouldn't have embarked on the effort I did to loose the weight I had. Physically the doctor is larger than I am so I felt she should be a little more sensitive and construct in offering feedback on weightloss. I was pretty insulted so I'm no longer seeing Dr. Hentek. Consult is normally $75 or so w/o insurance and she will give you med samples if she has them so you don't have to purchase. Sometimes they can see you same day if its urgent and you're not a first time patient. Very few drs take the time to listen to your concerns...

Since that first visit, I switched over to use him as my primary physician. He was caring, patient, and always answered all of my questions. I haven't met another doctor like him in the past 30 years. The office staff was friendly and helpful, and Dr. Kelter was excellent at diagnosing and treating many illnesses. Once I got in to see Dr. Kelter, it was clear it wasn't worth the wait. The nurse was nice (though she took blood and I still have terrible bruising 10 days later), but the woman at the front desk was beyond rude. Dr. Kelter was the worst of them. I explained that I needed a referral for the dermatologist for a skin issue. He insisted on checking it himself even though I specifically picked out a female dermatologist because of where the issue was located. It was clear he would not give me the referral unless he got to look himself. I was beyond uncomfortable and more than a bit horrified when he moved my clothing around without asking. Then he asked me why I picked a derm out already when he could've picked one for me. He was surprisingly brusque for someone who makes all patients wait 2 hours. Dr. Kelter was condescending and rude. He insisted on physically examining an issue he isn't qualified to examine, even though I expressed my discomfort as to where it was located (hence why I picked a female derm). It was unnecessary and left a bad taste in my mouth. He might be able to act like that with the older generation, but it wasn't going to fly with me. I will NEVER go back to him.

It is generally a pleasure to meet with him during visits. This office, however, needs to be shut down. Dr. Moehlen is generally clueless as to what is occuring within his walls. And Dr. Shortle? Forget it. She'll give you a pap smear that feels like she's trying to skewer your intestines. The facilities are not well kept. There is built up lime deposits in the sink, rust on the duck clamps... I doubt anything is sterilized, which embarrasses me to say considering how long I've been a patient. (I don't have the best insurance and therefore had to settle for what I could get). The staff clearly does not understand that medical offices are businesses and that customer service, courtesy and respect are still practices that are in the best interest of a profitable business. They do not greet you. They will not check you in. You WILL wait, consistently, at least 40 minutes past your appointment time. They will also charge you for services in-house on the basis that they are "unsure" whether your insurance will cover these services or not... and they won't let you leave until you pay. When I called my insurance company about this particular vaccine I was charged for, the insurance company said Moehlen Medical had submitted a bill to them (insurance) for the office visit. NOT the vaccine. When I asked whether the vaccine in question was covered, my insurance company said that yes, it was, in fact, covered IN FULL. They are scam artists. Additionally, on my last visit, the day I got said vaccine, they gave the doctor the wrong chart. He had another patient's chart-- a patient who was in her 50s (I'm in my 20s). He took notes in the incorrect chart and even wrote out THREE prescriptions for me under her name. When I returned to the office with the incorrect prescriptions and notified the front desk person that they had the wrong name on them, her response to me was, "didn't you notice the wrong name?" THAT'S YOUR JOB. I didn't notice the wrong name. It was a Thursday, I was visiting the office during my working hours, and having been seen 45 minutes past my appointment time, I was in a rush to get back to WORK where I actually do my job well and accurately. She then tried to place the blame on the Doctor. They're a disaster. So many HIPAA violations here as well. While I was waiting for my card to be charged that day, the receptionist asked me to stand by a counter where there were three medical charts completely open, completely visible to me. Having worked in the business of medical privacy laws, legislation, and the like, I informed the woman that these charts were there and that it was a huge HIPAA violation, and she should move them. Her response? "Oh, yeah, I know." SHE DIDN'T MOVE. Imagine if those were your charts. I closed the manilla folders and placed them on the other side of the desk. Don't come here. Just don't do it to yourself.

The first time the doctor would not give me anything because he could not figure out what was really wrong ("It doesn't look like a spider bite, but that's what I'm gonna say it is.") and said to get some Benadryl. The next day I was in the emergency room with a bacterial infection and a $2,000 bill. Most recently, I was denied entry into the building (they would not even let me up to speak to the receptionist) because I was late, even though the MTA sent out a notice saying they had suspended service the 2/3 due to mechanical problems. If I was dying and had no other choice, I would go here. But if it's not life and death, I just don't have confidence in their effectiveness and the effectiveness of their policies.
