I love stopping in on my way to class at Columbia. There are a few coolers with an assortment of beverages, a friendly cat, the standard sandwiches and a few pastries. Most importantly, though, there is a Mediterranean salad bar that has an assortment of cold items. Typically, a small container runs me less than four dollars and includes falafal, hummus, tabbouleh, and a variety of vegetarian options. Some of the more exciting dishes include chucks of feta and pepper. Last visit I even spied some stuff grape leaves. And the baklava. Well, it is a two dollar treat. I was here Sunday morning around 9 A.M. for a carry out light breakfast. I ordered a large hot coffee and a plain bagel with cream cheese. I also ordered a large iced coffee for my friend. The clerk toasted my bagel and put plenty of plain cream cheese on my bagel. The hot coffee was made to specifications requested. My friend didn't have a problem with his iced coffee. read more

Quality corner store for your on-the-go needs. This place reminds me of Florida, because the people who work here are genuinely friendly. The Olive Tree is the BEST. Tony (Awni) is a gem, and the entire staff radiates love! (Including the cat!) Greatest service, as long as you are nice to them too! The avocado salad is fresh and delicious! You can get a reasonably sized portion for about $5. I come here sometimes with my books, get a cup of coffee and some salad, and just relax in their dining room area. While I'm reading, I usually overhear the most interesting conversations, from churchgoers talking about the Bible, to students at the Jewish Theological Seminary gossiping about their professors, to moms discussing which private schools they want to send their kids. It' s just a very chill place, not pretentious at all, quaint, and cozy. Just for the avocado salad, it's worth coming here! read more

I live at the Jewish Theological Seminary (one block up) and the Olive Tree people are like family. If you are local and they know you, you can get anything from them on credit. In the morning and after school the place fills up with students, and at lunch you see all the construction workers... basically it's just a nice, friendly neighborhood deli. Besides the basic sandwiches and juices, the Mediterranean salad bar is a great reason to go. For $4/lb, you can eat homemade falafel balls, humus, babaganoush, avocado salad, and tabouleh to your heart's content. This is my preferred lunch option when I am running down between classes. They don't sell alcohol. read more

I live right around the block from this place, and I've been very happy with it. I enjoy their breakfast sandwiches (bacon egg and cheese? Delicious!), and they make good wraps later in the day too. Bonus for people who don't enjoy getting up early: I've been in for an egg sandwich in the afternoon, and they still serve them! Good coffee as well. Usually here for a quick coffee. Drink selection is massive, but bottles are a bit pricey for a deli, even in NYC. Counter service is friendly. Have not eaten lunch or other meals here, only on the go breakfasts. Will re-review if I come here more often. read more

I love the neighborhood feel of this place. The staff always remembers who I am and chats with me as they're getting my coffee, which, incidentally, they start making right as I walk in. I really think that what this place is selling more than anything else is the experience of a neighborhood deli with friendly, familiar faces where you get to be a "regular." I just wish it were open later in the evening, since I'm a night person and totally want to patronize them more often! As for the goods, it's basic deli stuff plus Mediterranean salad bar and a few household convenience items like canned goods, toilet paper, OTC meds for when you're in a bind....I try not to spend too much money on food beyond groceries, so I can't comment much on that. But I LOVE the iced coffee and I love even more that it's made by a friendly face. In fact, I love the staff here so much that this year I'm going to get them a Christmas card with some gift cards in it for everybody to thank them for being so sweet. read more

My wife and I walked in here as new comers to the area and wanted to check it out... We were looking for a bagel place close by Teacher's College.. We saw a few bagels but couldn't quite see the menu as far as options. This is a very quaint convenient store that doubles as a deli. There were three employees working behind the counter and right before my wife and I were about to walk out and go check out Joe's Coffee down the street, an older employees (possibly owner) looks at me and says, "Sir, we have the best sandwiches in the area, they are very good, you will like." I smiled and asked what he would recommend for a hot sandwich. The pastrami on rye sounded good and I ordered it. My wife is vegetarian and ordered the veggie sandwich. The Pastrami sandwich took about 5 minute to make. Everything is obviously made to order. The employees were very nice in asking about which condiment, cheese, and veggie options I wanted as they created the thick pastrami sandwich in sliced rye bread. I got home and enjoyed the sandwich as the owner had told me I would.. I was pleased the owner showed the initiative to talk me into the sandwich. Really showed me the passion he has for every one of his customers he serves. They really want to make sure you are happy with your order. I needed to pick up something for my five hour flight back to the West Coast and I sure am not going to buy a preserved sandwich on the airplane for $10 when I can get a fresh one here for $4.80! It isn't the most gourmet of delis but they do offer a standard selection of meats. I got salami and Swiss cheese. For the price, it was decent. From the outside this looks like just an ordinary deli, but stepping inside is a whole different story. Even better than the hidden falafel bar in the back is the huge smile you will get from the owner. In my time living around the corner from here, I spent 40% of food buying time here because it was more convenient than Morton. Yeah. It's overpriced (looking at TC students - be more fiscally responsible than I) but they have good food to sell and even their produce and deli stuff is good. read more

This may seem like an ordinary deli, stock full of junk food and semi-fresh produce, and it pretty much is...except...it also serves a great cup of hazelnut coffee. Who wouda known?? I used to come here every day for my steaming hot cup and I never left disappointed. Somehow they actually put 'home' into a cup. And although I'm so so so glad I live 30 blocks South now, I do miss that little deli and their cheap cup of good coffee. read more

I LOVE this place. I don't get anything here that is fancy. I love getting their everything bagel with cream cheese. Drinks are a bit expensive, but nothing outrageous since the area is expensive. But I love the people that work there. They let me bring in my dog and they seem to love her. She even loves it there because of the cat. Great little deli! read more

The area surrounding this shop (about .5 miles around) has few to zero coffee shops/bagel shops where one can get coffee and breakfast to go. The breakfast sandwiches here are tasty, the coffee is surprisingly decent, and the price is excellent (3.25 for a sausage, egg, and cheese--that's cheaper than "less expensive" cities I've lived in...). Look forward to trying their other meal options. read more

A good local deli. The sandwich was excellent but there's something weird about the potato salad NYC, I haven't had any good potato salad since I arrived. They also sell Kombucha which is a major plus. There's also a really cute cat that comes by the store, so look out for that. read more

I have been living one block away from this deli/bodega for the past 4 years. As a regular customer, I am always greeted with a hello and a friendly smile (I have even been hit on by their female employees)! I usually shop here to buy packaged snack food/beverages when I am feeling too lazy to venture out further away. While their packaged foods (chips, cookies, etc.) are reasonably priced, they do tend to overcharge for beverages, particularly 2 liter bottles of soda. Most of the other places in the area charge $1.79-$1.99 for a 2-liter bottle. Unfortunately this place charges $2.50. I buy sodas here anyway so that I don't have to carry them too far (just 1 block away). I've never tried their deli sandwiches/food (dietary restrictions) but it always smells good when I walk in. If you're looking for a quick grab and go or to buy some junk food, this is definitely the place. I just wish that they would stay open later (they used to be open until 11pm during the week...now only until 9pm). read more

Ok so I work right down the street from this store and it seems like every other day I have a problem there the workers there in the morning are very rude especially the cook he always messes up your order and today was the absolute worst in the morning before 7 am he is the only one working so he cooks and deals with the money so I am an EMT and I know about health and practicing good hygiene especially when your dealing with someone food ...I watch him this morning only wearing one glove handling people food and then with the same one glove come and touch DIRTY money and then go and touch people food so when I call him out on what he was doing he preceded to argue with me about what I saw knowing he was busted people need to understand you cannot absolutely not touch money then touch food without changing your gloves and washing your hands so when he change his gloves after I told him he preceded to still argue with me and start yelling at me now I know that's not good customer service so I will be speaking with his boss and I will be reporting this store on the sanitary and professionalism that they present if it's one thing I've learn you never know who someone knows so be careful on the things you say and how you treat people so I just want to say don't waste your time spending your money in a store that lacks professionalism and cleanliness. read more

This place rocks! Used to get a sausage and egg sandwich here for about a year each morning until I switched to a healthier start to the day. But, this place makes a great deli basic, has a solid cup of coffee, and the owners are very friendly. Beats Apple Tree on 120 and Broadway so easily it's a joke! read more

I work two doors down from this spot - used to go in there EVERY morning. The prices are great - but the man preparing the food is an Egg Nazi. He continuously yells 'NEXT' - without listening to what you're actually order.. and MAYBE 1 out of 5 times gets your order right - while making up whatever price he sees fits. Needless to say, I found a new breakfast spot. Breakfast shouldn't be so stressful and frustrating! read more
