You order something and point to it, and the server grabs some unlabelled mystery meat (with no label) from behind the counter. Whatever DOP prosciutto you've ordered, you'll be getting San Danielle(garbage). Made in Canada, over salted, full of hormones and chemicals, and slightly rancid. Italian prosciutto doesn't taste anything like that because all Italian prosciutto is chemical and hormone free by European law. My wife has unfortunately bought Speck (a smoked Tyrolean prosciutto) there a few times. It has been rancid - every time!. This may be linked to their packaged Italian product scam. In Italy, all these foods must, by law, have a marked expiration date. The Italian items at Lady York have an expiration that has been obscured by a sticker, wiped off with solvent or bear and clearly expired date (check your olive oil!). Basically they buy items that were destined for an Italian dumpster for next to nothing and sell them to you at a premium. It's hard to find such 'old world' scams these days, especially in Italy. Because in Italy, they would put these guys in jail.

I love the selection of feta, cheeses, olive oils, olives, jarred vine leaves for dolma/dolmades, oven ready Greek appetizers and imported products. There are not too many places in Markham that you can pick up a variety of feta cheeses and Greek products and if you do, they are not stocked regularly or fresh. We picked up 2 packs of super delish Kourabiedes that just melt in your mouth! Their baked goods are from Serano Bakery (one of my fav and one of the best in Greek town!). They have brought the best of Greece to this hidden gem in Markham and as foodie of everything Mediterranean and Middle Eastern, i am in heaven! They are located in a plaza (facing) Highway 7 at Albert Street. There is no street access from Highway 7. The entrance to the plaza is on Albert Street across from the Markham Village Community Centre. Looking forward to going back to try out more products when i have more time for shopping. My original thought was to visit Calabria Bakery to get some Portuguese tarts. Instead, a sandwich board with a veal sandwich made me forget about tarts and go for this sandwich. I frankly don't know why I had never visited this bakery whenever I'm in this plaza for ServiceOntario or Dollarama. It's a combination of a bakery, Italian speciality grocery store, cafe, and restaurant. It was cool walking in and seeing pasta, mushroom spread, different types of canned tomatoes, and a lot more. I headed to the hot foods section. The amazing smell led me effortlessly over there. A woman put down a pan of veal in tomato sauce. I love a good veal sandwich. My mouth was salivating to what felt like no end. The menu doesn't indicate how much sandwiches are, so I asked how much a veal one would be. I think she said $11.50 and it comes with toppings. That's such a great deal! I got a veal sandwich with mushrooms and green bell peppers. She asked if I wanted the sandwich sliced in half. I said yes. I normally get my veal sandwich fix at California Sandwiches. It charges extra for each topping that you want. You do get more veal there, but you are looking at closer to $18 for a sandwich. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. Another woman put my sandwich in a paper bag. I thanked her and put my food in my insulated bag. I then headed to my car and drove home to enjoy lunch. This sandwich was excellent. It had the perfect veal slices with light breading. The veal was tender. It had the perfect amount of tomato sauce to keep the sandwich moist without making the bun soggy. I loved the mushrooms and green bell peppers. So good! I'd return just for this sandwich alone. I'd also get some chocolate croissants because they looked delicious. I saw frozen meatballs. I want to get some next time. I'm so glad that I finally dropped by this eatery.
