For a va hospital it's good. Be prepared to wait to get an appointment. Physician offices have been moved but the staff is great.

I admit I do keep S & W Senior Care for the big stuff but no complaints at all from working with the VA.

Baylor Scott & White is a lot like the faucets on a cheap kitchen sink: HOT and COLD, with no…read morewarning and apparently no adult supervising the plumbing. When they're hot, they're magnificent. I have received what I would call the gold standard of medical care there--competent, compassionate people doing difficult work exceptionally well. Five stars. No hesitation. And then the handle swings the other direction. My latest adventure began with a broken bone that would benefit from the quaint old medical practice known as treatment. I drove in for an appointment Baylor Scott & White had scheduled, only to be informed that the doctor they scheduled me with doesn't do hands. Excellent. Apparently somewhere in the machinery of modern medicine, I had failed to verify that the specialist selected by the hospital was, in fact, a specialist capable of treating the body part attached to my arm. So I was sent home to await a call from the on-call doctor so I could be rescheduled. Five hours later: silence. I can only assume the orthopedic emergency command center suffered a catastrophic communications failure--or somebody's tee time came up. The final accounting: an 80-mile round trip and roughly four hours burned out of the finite supply of life allotted to me, all to discover that the doctor I had been sent to was the wrong doctor. Then we arrive at the grievance process, where the comedy becomes almost artistic. The Patient Rights material cheerfully encourages patients to file grievances with the "clinical manager." Wonderful. Who is the clinical manager? Apparently this is classified information. The person is not identified anywhere I can find. Then there is Patient Advocacy, a department that appears to function less like an advocacy office and more like an astronomical black hole: complaints enter, light bends, time stops, and nothing ever comes back out. I have some experience with this phenomenon. I'm still waiting for a meaningful response to complaints I raised roughly three months ago. At this point, I'm not sure whether they're investigating them or aging them in oak barrels. And that is the maddening thing about Baylor Scott & White. Parts of this enormous medical machine are superb. You encounter nurses, doctors, technicians, and staff who leave you genuinely grateful such people chose medicine. They are skilled, kind, attentive, and worth every one of those five stars. Then, without warning, you wander through another door and find yourself trapped in a bureaucratic fever dream where appointments lead to doctors who don't treat your injury, nobody seems responsible for anything, and "patient advocacy" has all the responsiveness of a mailbox painted onto a brick wall. So how do I rate Baylor Scott & White? That's easy. Five stars when they're hot. One star when they're cold. And God help you if you turn the faucet expecting one and get the other.

I have been to Scott & White so many times that at least one person in each department knows my…read morename. The majority of the doctors and physicians assistants are very pleasant. Even the lab techs are helpful as well as funny. The cafeteria as a few nice selections of food but could use more seasoning. As long as you are a patient going to your appointment and going home, you will be ok. Then there is the emergency room. In the emergency, it is as if there isn't enough techs because the lobby is always full. A lot of the nurses do not have bedside manners. A few of them do. I have had bruises, loss blood and even been assaulted nasally after they were told I did not want the care that they were trying to administer. They do not listen to the wishes of the patient or the family because they think they know everything. The people in charge will let the workers talk to the patients and families any kind of way, but they have a violence policy where the patients or family members cannot retaliate or use profanity. But when it comes to the speak up policy that is supposed to be enforced, the patients are rarely heard. I'm a heart transplant patient so I'm usually on the fourth floor. Now there are a few good nurses that actually do their jobs, have bedside manners, make the situations personable, and even make friends. Some even become like family. Then there are those who come to work with a chip on their shoulders and try to take it out on the patients. Now when it comes to Patient Relations, Douglas Stephens is probably the only one that actually cares and wants to help the patients. He actually takes the time to listen and come up with solutions. All in all Scott and White is a business. There are always some good people and some bad people. They need to read the signs provided for them as well as the patients. Treat people how you want to be treated. You have to give respect to get it. That's all I'm saying. The place itself is a wonderful place. You will find the right doctor for you.

I brought it up to staff multiple times and they told me to "quit talking about it". In my residential stay I witnessed two male staff members get in a physical altercation with each other. The care was terrible, it was so hard to see a medical doctor if needed as well.

There was a teen around the age of 14 who was in there for sexually abusing their younger cousin yet they would still room this teen with other patients who had been sexually assaulted and this teen tried to pressure one of his roommates into sexual acts. They didn't move the unit they were in until someone decided to punch them because they were tired of them trying to touch other teens inappropriately. They don't really care about your treatment care they will just throw meds at high dosages in your face even if you said it wasn't working for you they'd just up the dosage and add another med onto it. I left bringing home 8 medications that didn't help and gave me painful side effects. The therapist I had didn't care about what I had to say or why I was in there she refused to believe what was going on with me or in my home would just blow it off and say that I wanted to be in control of everything, when that wasn't true I was tried of living in a abusive household and she just said I was trying to control the people who were abusing me. Do not send your kids or teens here especially for a long term stay!!! I'm 20 now and just figured out that some of the meds the prescribed me were causing me to have something we believed were seizures. They don't care about treating you or anyone! It's more like a juvi.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to make patients check in using a phone clearly didn't think it through. It feels like the front desk is avoiding doing their job by having sick patients check themselves in, and it creates unnecessary contact points where germs can easily spread. If someone comes in for a non-illness-related issue, they're now exposed to germs from everyone touching the same equipment. As for the care itself, I will say the medical team is fast, efficient, and provides quality treatment. However, the front desk experience completely overshadows that. Another major issue is the lack of privacy. The front desk openly asks patients, "What's going on with you?" in front of the entire waiting room. While I was there, a man came in and had to quietly tell the receptionist he had diarrhea -- in front of everyone. That's embarrassing and absolutely not how patient information should be handled. These conversations should be left for triage in a private room, not asked out loud in a lobby full of strangers. Because of these issues, I will not be returning to this location.
