For a va hospital it's good. Be prepared to wait to get an appointment. Physician offices have been moved but the staff is great.

I admit I do keep S & W Senior Care for the big stuff but no complaints at all from working with the VA.

Even the lab techs are helpful as well as funny. The cafeteria as a few nice selections of food but could use more seasoning. As long as you are a patient going to your appointment and going home, you will be ok. Then there is the emergency room. In the emergency, it is as if there isn't enough techs because the lobby is always full. A lot of the nurses do not have bedside manners. A few of them do. I have had bruises, loss blood and even been assaulted nasally after they were told I did not want the care that they were trying to administer. They do not listen to the wishes of the patient or the family because they think they know everything. The people in charge will let the workers talk to the patients and families any kind of way, but they have a violence policy where the patients or family members cannot retaliate or use profanity. But when it comes to the speak up policy that is supposed to be enforced, the patients are rarely heard. I'm a heart transplant patient so I'm usually on the fourth floor. Now there are a few good nurses that actually do their jobs, have bedside manners, make the situations personable, and even make friends. Some even become like family. Then there are those who come to work with a chip on their shoulders and try to take it out on the patients. Now when it comes to Patient Relations, Douglas Stephens is probably the only one that actually cares and wants to help the patients. He actually takes the time to listen and come up with solutions. All in all Scott and White is a business. There are always some good people and some bad people. They need to read the signs provided for them as well as the patients. Treat people how you want to be treated. You have to give respect to get it. That's all I'm saying. The place itself is a wonderful place. You will find the right doctor for you.

Let me give you an example: I am 6 weeks into the recovery from total hip replacement and last night I had an extreme "panic" attack. I haven't had one of those for almost 6 years. It scared me. I live alone and called the "Hot Line" at 0430 for help. The lady on the phone was VERY helpful. However, about 0900 I decided to make a trip up to the hospital because I was concerned that this incident could have been related to my Tramadol pain medication. Remember I have no appointment! I arrived at 0945 and checked in with my Green Team and filled out the "walk-in" form. With in 15 minutes I was in the RN's office. He asked all the right questions and I related all my concerns to him. He was in direct messaging contact with my primary care Dr. She indicated that my ramp down dosage of Tramadol was correct and that she felt it was of little risk as the cause of my panic attack. She knew that I would be in for my check-up next week and instructed me to continue my meds at the current level. She also did a referral to the mental health group. The RN walked me over to the primary mental health office where I waited no longer than 30 minutes to see a Clinical Psychologist. She met with me one on one for aprox 45 minutes discussing my situation and reviewing my case history all the way back to my PTSD treatment 7 years ago. She offered several courses of action and together we designed one that I felt comfortable with. I left with a plan of action and contact info should my situation change. By 1230 I was eating lunch across the street. Please, anyone, tell me what medical facility anywhere where you can get this kind of attention? I will guarantee you that the local S&W facility would have no solution for a walk in patient! No appointment no visit! I took my Dad there for years, and it is a good facility with first class care. Just not set up like our Temple VA is! They are first class people working hard to take care of us. Remember we can all have a bad day and we're all not perfect 100% of the time BUT the staff at this facility comes darn close!

Please do not kill my family member. Please let my family member come home where they can get the help that they need because the facility does not have the expertise to help them. When it comes down to it, it's all about eugenics and genocide and that's a shame. A human being has to go through that. My family member was not taking medication when they went into the facility. My family member went in on the fifth and my family member did not bathe in five days as I was told by one of the nurses when I saw him on the ninth I noticed my family member had the same clothes on they was force to go to Cedar Crest they went there and that's when I was told that my family member didn't want to accept clothes from them. My family member therapist Joanne Laughrin told me if my family member wants to go home. They have to take the medication they claim my family member has schizophrenia but not 100% sure, but I was told by one of the nurses it was anxiety and mood so they keep saying different things that they diagnose my family member with. I have a place where I can take my family member to get help. My family member is traumatized and may have PTSD when you lock up in solitary confinement for over five days that can take a toll on your mental health and you have to get to the root cause to see why the persons like that, but that facility is not getting to the root cause they always wanna medicate someone that is not always the answer medication it's gonna make them worse than what they are and yes, some medication may help for some people but antipsychotic medicine sometime it can make your anxiety worse your hallucination worst so I don't know if I'mma ever see my family member again they might send my family member off to another facility because my family member is not as verbal I don't know, but something keeps telling me something is not right at Cedar Crest hospital . It's a lot going on in there and most of it is not good. They are some evil people at Cedar-Crest Hospital this facility needs to get shut down. And Joanne, his therapist told me they had a court order forcing him to take his medicine but yesterday she told me that he was not taking his medicine so I guess they got tired of forcing him and to be honest with you. I think they hurt my family member cause I had a dream this morning that my family member was high on medication and their own was hurt. I am not 100% sure if they stop forcing them to take the medicine. my family members don't fine without taking medication. The only thing that I know is that my family member like isolated and didn't talk much, but the family member never talk much before they was kind of quiet. But it's more than this story this is just some of it although other people outside, his family was concerned about them but they put him in the wrong place. My member lawyer, his name is Rafael Maldonado Perez and doctor is Dr Lola asked the facility for . the lawyer contact number? I did not get it so I'm gonna ask them again tomorrow. I have been calling several times a day and the phone just goes to voicemail. Called over 20 times before I was able to speak to anyone just to be told they couldn't give me any information. He called me tonight distraught. They still have not given him any of his clothing or even the most basic hygiene items. For 4 days he has not brushed his teeth and had to borrow soap from his roommate. He does not have a pillow!! He has been there 4 freaking days without a pillow!! He was told they don't have any!! How do you have a bed and no pillow?? This is the adolescents rtc unit. He is supposed to be there to help him heal his mental health issues and you can't even provide the most basic needs??? If a parent treated their child like this, CPS would be knocking. He has witnessed multiple fights, 2 if which were very violent. He is scared!! He said that some of the boys were stealing and destroying other boys property. His roommates were snorting drugs. 3 boys were able to run away. This is all just in 4 days! I am absolutely appalled. Unfortunately he has been placed there by the state of WV and I don't get to go pull him out. If I was able to, I'd be on a plane right now. I'm in fear for his safety. If you have any say in where your child goes, avoid this place! My guess is that most of the kids here are court ordered, unfortunately. Otherwise they would never get away with the conditions. This place needs to be investigated. These are children!

Whoever thought it was a good idea to make patients check in using a phone clearly didn't think it through. It feels like the front desk is avoiding doing their job by having sick patients check themselves in, and it creates unnecessary contact points where germs can easily spread. If someone comes in for a non-illness-related issue, they're now exposed to germs from everyone touching the same equipment. As for the care itself, I will say the medical team is fast, efficient, and provides quality treatment. However, the front desk experience completely overshadows that. Another major issue is the lack of privacy. The front desk openly asks patients, "What's going on with you?" in front of the entire waiting room. While I was there, a man came in and had to quietly tell the receptionist he had diarrhea -- in front of everyone. That's embarrassing and absolutely not how patient information should be handled. These conversations should be left for triage in a private room, not asked out loud in a lobby full of strangers. Because of these issues, I will not be returning to this location.
