My friend, who is also my nephew's Mother In Law is an active member. Having spent quality time in the area with the family, I had seen the church but had never been able to attend a Holy Eucharist. During one of my continuous 2026 series of illnesses I received a text from Bonnie inviting me to attend their Palm Sunday service on Zoom. I was delighted. Palm Sunday is one of my favorite days of the year. Setting my clock, I rose early for coffee, and set the Zoom to Air Play to my TV. It was a wonderful service, culminating in the Passion Play. Thank you Christ Church LaPlata for letting me attend your Palm Sunday from Coastal Virginia when I was sick and not able to attend in person.

It's EXTREMELY old, and the cemetery is full of headstones that will validate that. I mean, I came across an old Native American Indian chief that is buried here. The church itself is the most fascinating to me. It was established as the first permanent church in the colony north of the Occoquan River. This church has seen more than its share of history. I love that my two year old is in loving, vetted care and joins us in the sanctuary during a short children's time. This reminds me of the small town church I used to attend as a child, where everyone knew your name and you are a part of a community (not just another tithe). The services are very traditional, but the messages are not. Pastor Steve Hyde does not shy away from discussing current issues through a lens of justice and love, rather than fear or hate which I have unfortunately seen all to often in other churches. I would encourage anyone looking for an inclusive, welcoming church to stop in some Sunday at 11am and see what makes this church so special.
