The church as a whole is great for everyone. If you're worried about a church conflicting with your specific political views or something like that, this isn't a church preaching politics, fire and brimstone. This church focuses on the positive,love and community. The gathering leaves room for lots of conversation and meeting qood quality people. I love that its not mega-church-y but is large enough to have such a large community of people of diverse ages and backgrounds. Stephen Taylor the Community Ministry Coordinator is very good at relating his messages about todays times and how to apply to apply them to our every day lives. He is even nice enough to remind us about upcoming events via email. I am becoming to a regular to the yoga class the church hosts on Monday evenings. Their yoga class has helped me physically,emotionally and spiritually. All and all I am extremely lucky this church has come into my life. Sometimes…read moreyou can go to church for decades and still find the same variety of single, snobby, stiff-necked, toxic narcissists who are intent on ruining your participation. Not here. The music and liturgy can be said to be tailored for people of color, but really it is for everyone. The issues are relevant from yesterday to today and there are numerous support groups for those who would like to get to know more folk. It is at least as friendly as another non-Catholic church that I have visited and was so surprised at the nonpretentiousness. When the atmosphere allows different groups to help with worshiping such as at the Children's Mass Service, it really expands one's awareness of how committed the parents and community can be, which in turn helps deepen one's faith and love in community. If you are very poor and shy there is also the evening mass which is broadcast online, which is also another ample demonstration of local talent by nonmarginalized women of color. As one person stated, it is the only church where I remember getting more hugs and handshakes than anywhere else. Kudos to the church and all the parishioners who create a hidden gem out of DC. One star deducted for insurance: anytime I post something as terrific, especially in DC, some field operatives might be sent to sow dissent.

My husband and I do not attend Providence Baptist Church in-person, but we view online. (We live in…read moreSouthern California and met Daniel and his family when he was a pastor at Harvest.) We were privileged to be in a small group in Daniel's home where he led studies in Romans and 1 Corinthians. Also, Daniel oversaw the Deepening Your Faith/Apologetics ministry that gave us a solid foundation for our Christian worldview. Daniel takes to heart 2 Timothy 2:15 and carefully and correctly explains God's Word. God has used him to teach us how to study the Bible - exegesis/seeking the original intended meaning of text. As believers, we should steer clear of those teachers who make the Bible say whatever they want (eisegesis). With Pastor Daniel, you will get God's Word carefully taught for His glory. (The hubby says, "Daniel teaches deep biblical truth in a way that it is easy to understand - truly an anointed teacher.") During a Bible study, I remember Pastor Daniel saying, "Much of the New Testament is about loving the brethren." Loving the brethren can't be done in isolation. You will be loved well and will be able to love others at Providence Baptist Church.
