Ever since I lost my last hairstylist who…read moreswitched to a different line of work, I've had the hardest time finding someone who knows how to cut short Asian hair. A friend suggested I try a barber shop, and good riddance to all the salons who charge me $50+ for a "women's haircut" when their men's cuts (read: short hair) are much cheaper. Other than Madison's uncanny ability to know exactly what I want with my vague descriptions, what I love about Constitution Plaza Barber Shop is they charge one flat rate for everyone. My biggest pet peeve is when I have to pay a haircut upcharge for no apparent reason other than identifying as female. It's really convenient now that my husband and I can get our hair cut at the same place, and Madison does as great and as consistent a job on his fine, curly hair as she does with mine. For safety reasons, for now they are requiring people wear masks at all times inside and to stay in your car while you're waiting. They have sanitizing procedures between each appt and hand sanitizer at the door. They do take walk-ins typically but I do recommend booking ahead, especially now. Also they're cash only so make sure you bring extra for tip!

As I entered the shop, I noticed the nice air conditioned atmosphere. The floor was clean and the entire shop seemed neat and well organized. I was able to take a seat in a barber chair immediately. The gentleman barber was very pleasant to me. I asked him if I could just have a #2 attachment on the electric shears. No problem. As soon as he started the haircut, I noticed that the electric shears were connected to a vacuum collection system. If you've never experienced this, you should try it. It not only saves the barbers from having to stop between each and every customer to sweep the floor, it allows the customer in the chair to avoid all those little prickly hairs that cover our faces and fall down our t-shirts. Plus, as I was still trying to cool off from being outside, the air flow created by the vacuum device felt refreshingly cool on my head. The barber used foam and straight razor to trim around the neck and above the ears. He also used a hot, moist towel around my neck...and it felt sooo good. The entire haircut lasted just a few minutes and then I was on my way. The price was a bargain for such a professional, enjoyable experience. I wish I had tried them out a long time ago. They're located right on the southern end of Main Street; easily to be seen.

Even though I wear my hair in 1970s and '80s semi-punk rock-style, he's able to make it work, while keeping it styled. After he's cut the hair, and it starts to grow back in again, is when you can see how good his work really is. He provides little extra touches, like cleaning-up the eyebrows, and removing excess nostril-hair. Joe has a fun personality, and he's proud of his Italian heritage. He is knowledgeable about many things, including food. Somewhat of an old-school barber shop atmosphere, with lots of successful business-types stopping in for a cut. Sometimes, some of the unusual neighborhood people come wandering in with bizarre requests and/or comments. Well worth the $20 fee. Overall, I highly recommend Joe at Rosetta's.
