Other than the company I kept, it had a long way to go before it was a "to go to place"! Location: a 15-20 minute drive from anywhere in Bismarck. Decor: sports/martini/lake harbor bar?? Clearly, they have no idea who they want to be when they grow up and it showed. The upside was the they have a patio and it has a so-so view of a small harbor for boats, but they were playing 50 Cent's "Get Rich of Die Trying" CD and had a toothless bartender...what??? It's clean and has highly vaulted ceilings, but.... geez, what an airball. Food: popcorn, THAT'S IT. So I drive all the way across town to have a drink and a snack before dinner, and I'm presented with popcorn and a cheap martini? The cheap martini was good, but if I want to have another, I have to hail a cab because there's no way I'm driving all the way across town when the cops run rampant! Service: there were all of, hmmmm.... maybe 8 people in the entire place, including the 2 bartenders, and our server is running around the place with her head cut off, toothless and all and I just, ugh, not a great experience. The Drink has a long way to go before they get even one more star...

Yea they have Twins and Timberwolves with Direct TV. Helpful bartenders who gave us some samples of local craft beers. Healthy selection of taps. We had the 'Shroom and Herbs pizza. All pizza is 12" and that seems to be their primary food option with some side options. It did not disappoint. It was wood fired pizza with premium ingredients. Lots of awesome pizza options and our goat cheese was not lacking. Sometimes you get a little bit of goat cheese scattered, but at this place it's generous goat cheese! Every bit was amazing. The crust was crispy but not burnt like some other wood fire pizzas you get. This was quite possibly the best pizza I've had in Bisman and maybe beyond. Atmosphere was pub style, very clean restrooms, and just a nice chill vibe. Parking is street or a lot by park across street. This is a new hidden gem in Bisman and I can't wait to go back and try another pizza!

They have a back door with some outside tables which is nice to sit out there when it's nice out. They are most well known for their strawberry shots [which is a actual strawberry filled with amaretto and topped with whip cream] and also their pineapple drinks [in an actual pineapple] and ice cream shots. It does get pretty crowded and hot in there on the weekends but something to check out when you are in town.

Laughing Sun -- I guess the joke's on me…read more Went to celebrate Father's Day 2025 at Laughing Sun for some BBQ and a beer. I've been looking for good BBQ in Bismarck, and Laughing Sun has been recommended to me quite a bit. The place itself is really cool -- I love the big, open blues venue atmosphere. Axe throwing is a fun touch, and I appreciate that it's sectioned off so it doesn't distract if you're not into it. The line to order moved quickly, and ordering was smooth with friendly service. I got the 3-meat BBQ plate with brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. For sides, I chose mac and cheese, beans, and kettle chips. My wife ordered a half order of the BBQ nachos and a root beer. I had the Space Probe Blue, a sour -- which I really enjoyed. The ribs were great: served slightly above room temp, tender, and well-seasoned. I'm not a fan of competition-style ribs where you're expected to leave a bite mark, and thankfully these were more tender than that. Not quite "fall-off-the-bone," but a really nice middle ground. The pulled pork was solid -- moist, well-seasoned, and with noticeable smoke flavor. The brisket looked promising with a nice bark and smoke ring. But that's where the positives ended. It was the driest brisket I've ever had -- barely edible. Truly terrible. It looked old, and I'd be shocked if it hadn't been sliced the day before. I was genuinely disappointed. Brisket and burnt ends are my jam, and I just couldn't vibe with it. The "award-winning" mac and cheese was served at room temp and was mid at best. The beans were also served room temp and are supposed to include brisket -- fortunately, mine did not. I'd give the beans a 5/10. The kettle chips, though, were excellent -- crispy, well-seasoned, and easily the best side of the bunch. The BBQ nachos didn't go over well with my wife. Her main issues: the pulled pork was wet and spongy, the pico de gallo was overly watery and made everything soggy, and the use of melted cheese instead of nacho cheese didn't work. In summary: If you're after a great local beer and a fun atmosphere, this could be your spot. But if you're looking for killer BBQ executed with care, maybe do what I'm going to do -- and keep looking.
