Just as it's called, it's a must whenever you're in Edinburgh. There's so much to see and do depending on where you end up. You have the two major city of Glasgow and Edinburgh. There's the highlands, Oban or a ferry ride over to the islands. Just to name a few. But if you're in Edinburgh, you're basically there at old town. Just on the opposite side of new town where you'll have loads of shopping and restaurants. More of the up to date and higher end shops. But just about half mile or so walk across the bridge, you enter into old town.
Cobble streets with amazing gothic style buildings. Of course you'll have shopping as well but they tend to be more to the tourist side. Trinkets of sort and whatever. You'll have a good amount of restaurants along the path too leading up to the castle. Along the way there's some amazing architecture that's a must to check out. Once you're there, you're literally down the street from Princess Street where it's a cute block of beautiful painted buildings and fame Harry Potter shop.
Don't forget to stop along one of the many bars in the area. Grab a pint or two. Plus, there's so many small alleyways that's part of the spectacular nature of the city. Check them out. If you're heading towards the castle, I do recommend booking your tickets in advance as they do sell out and have limitations daily. Walking tours are also offered if you want a guided experience of the city. There's something for everyone. It's something about the cobble stones and gothic architecture that makes old town what it is. A must see and experience. read more
