Cozy venue with an indoor and tiny outdoor area. It's intimate, yet not super fancy. I would hold a breakdancing competion here, not a wedding.

    LOVE high ceilings and chandeliers!

This review is long overdue, but I got married in August and I do not regret ever choosing this venue for our special day. I have so many good things to say about Martin because he helped us out so much leading up to the wedding to the day of. We had our ceremony outside in the backyard and the reception in the reception hall. Looking back at videos, Martin went above and beyond when it came to the lights (changing colors, flickering, setting the mood every time). Other venues charged extra when it came to details like these, but Martin's main priority was to make us happy and it definitely showed. Throughout the day, he would come up to us and make sure everything was going well and we didn't have any complaints. Our maitre d' Lauren was also fantastic! From setting up the venue hall to going over our rehearsal with family and friends involved to also making sure things went smoothly, she was a great help. My bridal attendant (I'm sorry I forgot her name!) always made sure I was okay and took care of me, my food and drinks, and my dress. All parties made sure my husband and I were well fed - something that we heard from other friends that got married that they missed out on. We held our tea ceremony (Chinese tradition during weddings) in the bridal suite upstairs. If the bridal party decides to get ready there, there is definitely an ample amount of space for everyone to be comfortable. I had about 20 family members in the suite during this time and it didn't feel cramped. Someone that was in charge of bringing the tea for the ceremony forgot to bring the tea, so my bridesmaids quickly ran down to Lauren and she took care of getting us tower water boiler, tea packets, and several mugs since the amount we brought weren't going to be enough to accommodate the time before heading back down for the start of the reception. The venue itself is beautiful. The layout of the backyard (if you plan to hold an outdoor ceremony) is inviting and you also pass by an elegant waterfall/fountain which made a beautiful backdrop in pictures. The bar was located in the lobby which was good in-between for the cocktail reception area and the reception hall. We had no complaints regarding the venue itself and received many praises for choosing a great venue. The FOOD was a big big plus - we received many compliments stating that this venue was some of the few locations that served quality food (they have their own kitchen in the back so nothing is delivered from outside) To Martin, Lauren, my bridal attendant, the chefs, waiters, set up/break down crew, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for such a smooth and memorable day. Have your wedding here! You won't regret it - I promise!

We attended a wedding reception here recently and it was really nice. The venue is beautiful and very well maintained. It's located in a very residential neighborhood, so it almost pops up out of nowhere. We drove up, the trees along the pathway are brightly lit with holiday lights. There was complimentary valet parking. The cocktail reception room is fairly small, which leads me to believe that Old Tappan Manor probably isn't the venue for large weddings. The food available to us during the cocktail was good and full of variety for all dietary needs. The main hall where the reception was held was also a beautiful room with a large dance floor in the middle of the room. The main course served during the reception was delicious. If you're in North Jersey or possibly even NYC and you're looking for a place to have a reception, you may want to consider Old Tappan Manor. Your guests will certainly remember it for a long time.

The Old Tappan Manor (formerly the Colonial Manor) was the site of a good friend's wedding earlier this month, and it was spectacular. As you walk in, there is a large reception area with a nice bar. Through the doors to our left, we had "appetizers," which was really like the first dinner. There were tables spread along the walls with different foods, such as fruit and cheese, sandwiches, a carving station, pastas, seafood -- you name it. Once the cocktail and appetizer hour was over, we went to the other side of bar to the main event room, which was incredible. The chandeliers were absolutely beautiful, and the centerpieces were perfectly arranged. Everything was very well done. Great sound system, awesome lighting, nice dance floor, tasty food, and professional service. A wonderful site for weddings!

We had my sister's in law wedding yesterday at this place. And I was her bridesmaids. The place is beautiful, in fact stunning. In reality I was going to give a lower rating but gave it 3 stars because the place was perfect and because 2 staffs (Lauren and Kristine) were beyond AMAZING with us!!! However management has major WORK to do! Martin and another gentleman (either sales or manager not sure) were EXTREMELY rude to our bride and wedding party! The bride was trying to get dressed for her photoshoot at the ballroom prior to the wedding. Martin and the other guy came in saying that they had other appointments set up for guests to check out the place, and that we had 5 mins to get dressed. Like REALLY?!!. He was basically talking to us as if we had no rights to be there and making us feel all rushed. The bride was about to cry. The wedding is a special day, and already hectic as it is, why speak to us in such manner? The photographer had to tell him "Ok I understand you have appointments BUT SHE PAID for TODAY". Yes she did, and a pretty penny!. Finally after the photos were done, Martin came in said hello nicely and congratulated the bride. And later on apologized. We were very confused at the change in attitude. We felt that it was too late. He also gave her a few pieces of steak to take home, I guess to make up for it. But that didn't change the sour experience. We ended up letting it go and asking for drinks to continue the celebration. On another hand, I'm also very close to the bride and everyyyy time she called, he kept forgetting her name and that she was booked for April 8th. She was so annoyed at this. He kept saying "who's this again? Outtara? Beltre wedding? You're booked with us? Really what date again?". For an entire year they had booked. That experience was not pleasant for her, and she had communicated that to myself and her husband. Thankfully the event did run smooth and beautifully and Kristine and Lauren were loved by the entire bridal party. They made our nights and experience 100% better!!!! They met every need we needed and put smiles in our faces. If it wasn't for them, we would've been super unhappy.

Great neighborhood bakery & cafe restaurant! I was looking for something different for office lunch…read morewhen I stumbled upon Mimi's Plate. They are more of a dine-in place and NOT an efficient office lunch take out place because it took a long hold time on the phone to place the order for the office of 7 people. So be warned. When I went to pick up the food, place was buzzing with energy. They had nice case full of baked goods and staff all looked busy but energetic. I saw that there was a whole dining area to the left (doesn't look like it from outside!) that was PACKED with happy lunchers! The cashier let us know that they open Saturdays for amazing brunch, so I made a mental note to try. Onto the food... #7 Turkey sandwich (5/5, Main) - Delicious. Juicy, fresh-tasting turkey piled high and dense (like sando is HEAVY...) with cheddar, grilled onions and Russian dressing. Hello! Seriously packed that homey flavor but better. Crowdpleaser. #8 Turkey meatloaf w/ cheddar sandwich (3/5, Main) - My order because I'm a sucker for meatloaf. It turned out to be slightly dry but I suppose you can't make it too saucy if it's going on a sando. It also had nice heft but ended up being a bit too heavy and one-dimensional. #7 was better. Indian Red Lentil Soup (3/5, Side) - Something to wet our palate (literally). Homey flavor, but not a standout. We tried ordering one more time and office agreed that this place isn't good for office lunch because they had no online order and because they're too busy with customers, both time we had to wait like 10 minutes and then the person did not speak very well and just took a long time and a mistake in the order. But I'm sure that dine-in is going to be a different story! If you want a homey Russian-style cafe food from a passionate Russian lady chef, give this lovely neighborhood cafe a visit. You won't be disappointed!

With Fink's BBQ now closed for good…read morein Suffern, I've been aching for a local Rockland joint with solid BBQ to visit time and time again. I admit that my disappointment may be weighing on my rating, but let me get this out of the way: Country music? Sure. It's BBQ. That's standard. But having Fox News on both downstairs TV? A very poor precedent to play politics in the area that guests first walk into. Most restaurants with TVs will play sports. Upstairs, they at least were showing Food Network, and that is also fine. Politics is an immediate 1.5 star deduction, and I noticed 13 stars on the menu that indicated this is a recurring theme, not just an error by the waitstaff. I'll also note the waitstaff... well, the one girl who greeted us as first was not the best. She had very little to say, so I asked about upstairs vs. downstairs and she said we could pick. We picked upstairs to get away from the door and the politics, and while that was nice, after bringing us water and taking our order she immediately disappeared and was never seen again. My appetizer came out with the main course, water wasn't going to be refilled unless I shouted down the stairs... very poor start. Fortunately, this was made up by the nice guy (24 years old I think?) who served our food and tended to us the rest of the night. Maybe he could sense the peeve. Maybe he fired her on the spot and took over. But he was very personable, visited frequently to see how we were doing and what we needed, chatted up quite a bit about the food and the restaurant and himself. Great guy, so service is a "push". Other than the music, the ambiance is... interesting. Upstairs is nice and cozy, and there are two sets of stairs leading up to it, one behind the other. Strange. They're both open stairs, but they look totally different. I asked about that, and the nice guy said that the upstairs actually spans two neighboring businesses. Which doesn't quite explain the double staircase but was still interesting to hear about. There are also catered events up there, since this place is first and foremost a catering establishment. He showed us the catering menu, and it's quite a bit more expansive than the regular menu. But no desserts on them, except for special times like Thanksgiving and Christmas, since the owner gets exhausted baking desserts (I'm told). And with all that, we get to the food... First, I tried the sauces. Only two options, neither has heat. Their standard sauce is the darker, redder of the two, tomato based NY-style. The lighter (orange from the outside) is their custom sauce that is apparently Carolina themed with mustard included. I would not call it Southern, as it is rather over-sugared for Carolina BBQ. Second, the wait for the meals was so long, I almost left. It was at least 30 minutes and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Any good BBQ place is doing enough business to have meat at the ready and dishes to prepare and send out. I can finally report that once the food did arrive, it was very good overall. The quesadilla was a little imbalanced - parts were too much cheese and not enough meat. My corn souffle appetizer was delicious, but not Southern in how it came across - too dense and squishy. Southern style is a little softer and puffier. My ribs were tasty but not fall-off-the-bone tender. They were cooked neither low nor slow enough, which makes me think they were not left cooking overnight but rather partially cooked (at best) and completed when I ordered. Which is not right for BBQ. As far as the sides, cole slaw was nothing special. The homemade dill pickles that came with the quesadilla are actually really good! I'm not a dill guy normally. Finally, the potato salad was interesting. Not sure if that counts as a hit or a miss, as the bacon was too crunchy (I can't believe I'm hating on bacon) and the texture threw off the overall impression. Because the waiter who took over was so nice, I ordered dessert. The whipped cream pie is really good, I just wish it wasn't so small for the money, but homemade has its cost and I respect that. Order the $30 pie while it's on the Thanksgiving catering menu! In the end, I'm balancing a lot. Food that would get at least 4 stars by itself, and could be higher with a repeat visit. Both 5 star service and 1 star service. 4 star atmosphere upstairs, 1 star downstairs. That's fifteen stars total, divided by five numbers, so I hereby award 3 stars and will continue to look for a Fink's replacement I can truly enjoy.

We had tried to visit the restaurant on two other occasions during regular weekend business hours, but it was closed to the public for private parties. Unfortunately, the restaurant is not well managed, so the service was poor. On the first visit, we waited quite a while for our food. On the second visit we ordered just appetizers and, again, we waited 20+ minutes, only to get the wrong food and, rather than wait, we ate it, but the food was very good. While we were waiting for our food, we witnessed waitresses carruing food to serve outside seating, and watched them return inside with the food several times, which indicates confused service management bad training. When I got the check, I noticed they charged $11 for a Guinness - pretty expensive for a beer in the suburbs.. We will try it again to see if the service improves,
