Nestled in an upscale million dollar neighborhood in Tahan, New Jersey on the border of Rockland County, this little Catering jewel is ideal for family celebrations or corporate events. Valet parking and the car was returned in the same condition we left it. The service was friendly and professional. A clear sign of excellent training was when I approached a server at the cocktail reception to inquire about my allium allergies, she immediately brought the banquet, maître D to discuss the options for me. It was clear that the allergy was not communicated to the establishment or within the establishment. Nonetheless, the concern was handled with care and thoughtful professionalism. The options that were still available to me or communicate communicated, and I had a wonderful meal. The grounds and garden are well designed for outdoor services. In this case, an outdoor wedding. Chairs were comfortable, and the fountain in the background created a lovely atmosphere and photo opportunity. The one critique I have is that no covering such as a gazebo or tent, was insight and thunderstorms were eminent. If I could recommend anything to the management, it would be to have this option on hand to avoid distractions from the actual ceremony. When thunder crackled in the background, we secretly hoped that the service would come to an end in time. Everyone was dressed in evening attire, so a gazebo or tent would have been appreciated. We were not inside more than 15 minutes when the skies did open up. Catastrophe averted. With the exception of one server who spilled wine on my son's newly pressed shirt, Service was meticulous. In the case of the red wine incident, this could have been averted by wrapping the wine bottle appropriately in a service linen. A little more training in this area would be recommend recommended. All in all, a solid four star event. The filet mignon, French green beans, and magnificent desserts were a five star Cleverly, our hosts prepared and end to the night with a coffee station and Donuts cleverly hanging on Hooks. The donuts were exceptional. It's difficult to rate without knowing the cost per person so I am limiting my rankings beginning with a five star and deducting minimally for a couple of challenges in service. I visited this location while celebrating my cousin in-laws, daughters baptism, and it's actually a really beautiful venue inside and out. The staff were so friendly and attentive. It was honestly a great experience. The food was pretty good although there were a couple of pieces that were a mess. I know that there's a lot of pressure in cooking 200 meals at the same time so I don't really expect the best of the best benefit venues can do it, so can this one. If I had to ask them to improve on one thing it would probably be the chicken franchise, which was a little bit dry, but overall, I truly enjoyed the appetizers which were always the best part. This place is seriously a hidden gem in Bergen County! The team was amazing from day one... so patient (especially with all our parents' questions) and just total pros. On the wedding day, they took care of everything... my husband and I didn't have to worry about a single thing. I had a few bridal attendants helping me out, which made things super easy. This review is long overdue, but I got married in August and I do not regret ever choosing this venue for our special day. I have so many good things to say about Martin because he helped us out so much leading up to the wedding to the day of. We had our ceremony outside in the backyard and the reception in the reception hall. Looking back at videos, Martin went above and beyond when it came to the lights (changing colors, flickering, setting the mood every time). Other venues charged extra when it came to details like these, but Martin's main priority was to make us happy and it definitely showed. Throughout the day, he would come up to us and make sure everything was going well and we didn't have any complaints. Our maitre d' Lauren was also fantastic! From setting up the venue hall to going over our rehearsal with family and friends involved to also making sure things went smoothly, she was a great help. My bridal attendant (I'm sorry I forgot her name!) always made sure I was okay and took care of me, my food and drinks, and my dress. All parties made sure my husband and I were well fed - something that we heard from other friends that got married that they missed out on. We held our tea ceremony (Chinese tradition during weddings) in the bridal suite upstairs. If the bridal party decides to get ready there, there is definitely an ample amount of space for everyone to be comfortable. I had about 20 family members in the suite during this time and it didn't feel cramped. Someone that was in charge of bringing the tea for the ceremony forgot to bring the tea, so my bridesmaids quickly ran down to Lauren and she took care of getting us tower water boiler, tea packets, and several mugs since the amount we brought weren't going to be enough to accommodate the time before heading back down for the start of the reception. The venue itself is beautiful. The layout of the backyard (if you plan to hold an outdoor ceremony) is inviting and you also pass by an elegant waterfall/fountain which made a beautiful backdrop in pictures. The bar was located in the lobby which was good in-between for the cocktail reception area and the reception hall. We had no complaints regarding the venue itself and received many praises for choosing a great venue. The FOOD was a big big plus - we received many compliments stating that this venue was some of the few locations that served quality food (they have their own kitchen in the back so nothing is delivered from outside) To Martin, Lauren, my bridal attendant, the chefs, waiters, set up/break down crew, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for such a smooth and memorable day. We attended a wedding reception here recently and it was really nice. The venue is beautiful and very well maintained. It's located in a very residential neighborhood, so it almost pops up out of nowhere. We drove up, the trees along the pathway are brightly lit with holiday lights. There was complimentary valet parking. The cocktail reception room is fairly small, which leads me to believe that Old Tappan Manor probably isn't the venue for large weddings. The food available to us during the cocktail was good and full of variety for all dietary needs.The main hall where the reception was held was also a beautiful room with a large dance floor in the middle of the room. The main course served during the reception was delicious. The Old Tappan Manor (formerly the Colonial Manor) was the site of a good friend's wedding earlier this month, and it was spectacular. As you walk in, there is a large reception area with a nice bar. Through the doors to our left, we had "appetizers," which was really like the first dinner. There were tables spread along the walls with different foods, such as fruit and cheese, sandwiches, a carving station, pastas, seafood -- you name it. Once the cocktail and appetizer hour was over, we went to the other side of bar to the main event room, which was incredible. The chandeliers were absolutely beautiful, and the centerpieces were perfectly arranged. Everything was very well done. The venue has the main ballroom, I guess you could call it, where dinner actually took place. It has another room for cocktail hour and socializing before dinner. The upstairs room for getting ready was very nice too with a lovely view from the second story. There's a small courtyard behind the main ballroom that had a large waterfall fountain facing the ballroom window, which served as an awesome backdrop for the ballroom festivities. My husband and I were married at Old Tappan Manor on May 30, 2015 (this past Saturday). We worked with Martin Shanley through most of the process and were pleased with everything! The grounds are absolutely breathtaking (the gorgeous gazebo, the waterfall cascade with patio, the stunning ballroom) and the service was excellent! There was a minor issue with the sushi station (apparently there was a car accident and the sushi did not arrive on time), but Martin quickly let us know about the issue, assured us they were getting replacement sushi, and offered to reimburse us the amount we paid for it! The replacement sushi arrived towards the end of our cocktail hour and Martin made sure not only that people were able to get some before the reception but also that we received a plate of it after our cocktail hour. People also really enjoyed the mashed potato bar, the carving station, as well as so many of the other delicious food available. The level of attention to detail was incredible! Throughout the night, all of our guests kept commenting on how great all of the food was and how attentive the waiters were. The facilities were clean and well maintained. We had my sister's in law wedding yesterday at this place. And I was her bridesmaids. The place is beautiful, in fact stunning. In reality I was going to give a lower rating but gave it 3 stars because the place was perfect and because 2 staffs (Lauren and Kristine) were beyond AMAZING with us!!! However management has major WORK to do! Martin and another gentleman (either sales or manager not sure) were EXTREMELY rude to our bride and wedding party! The bride was trying to get dressed for her photoshoot at the ballroom prior to the wedding. Martin and the other guy came in saying that they had other appointments set up for guests to check out the place, and that we had 5 mins to get dressed. Like REALLY?!!. He was basically talking to us as if we had no rights to be there and making us feel all rushed. The bride was about to cry. The wedding is a special day, and already hectic as it is, why speak to us in such manner? The photographer had to tell him "Ok I understand you have appointments BUT SHE PAID for TODAY". Yes she did, and a pretty penny!. Finally after the photos were done, Martin came in said hello nicely and congratulated the bride. And later on apologized. We were very confused at the change in attitude. We felt that it was too late. He also gave her a few pieces of steak to take home, I guess to make up for it. But that didn't change the sour experience. We ended up letting it go and asking for drinks to continue the celebration. On another hand, I'm also very close to the bride and everyyyy time she called, he kept forgetting her name and that she was booked for April 8th. She was so annoyed at this. He kept saying "who's this again? Outtara? Beltre wedding? You're booked with us? Really what date again?". For an entire year they had booked. That experience was not pleasant for her, and she had communicated that to myself and her husband. Thankfully the event did run smooth and beautifully and Kristine and Lauren were loved by the entire bridal party. They made our nights and experience 100% better!!!! We got married here in August and it was love at first sight! From the first moment we met Martin, all of our needs and wants were never a problem. He honestly made the reception the easiest part to plan. The whole place is gorgeous and breathtaking. Even though my husband's party caused us to be 45 minutes late (something always has to go wrong lol) Old Tappan Manor was nothing but accommodating. Martin made sure the photographer stayed on track so that my husband and I could actually enjoy time alone. Everyone is still talking about the amazing time they had. From the delicious and extravagant cocktail hour to the beautiful chandeliers and marble all over the place. I wish I could do it again all over!! Martin even personally told me when he was heading out and made sure I was OK before hand. Of course I was because he left everything in the hands of Rich, the matre'd. The bridal assistant was also very attentive and she made me feel like it was still about my husband and me even though we all know it wasn't lol! The staff were professional and attentive. The cocktail hour was outstanding and plentiful, and the entrees (Chateaubriand, chicken dish [can't remember the type], and Chilean Sea Bass) were a complete home run with all our guests. Dessert was good, but I have to confess, I was too full to appreciate the 3 different dessert samplers we were served. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and tastefully decorated. The bridal suite and another separate upstairs room were perfect for the bridal party and then for our babysitters and younger family members who needed a quiet place to rest, away from the festivities. I am still speechless with how incredible The Old Tappan Manor was. My husband and I got married here on October 20th, 2017. It was the most magical night. Our daughters Sweet 16 Birthday was celebrated here in August and we could not be more pleased after reviewing so many catering halls in the regional area. We were also happy to book a Saturday night for this special occasion. Martin, our catering manager and Lauren, the maître d', were outstanding in organizing and coordinating all of the components of the evening, making this the most memorable formal celebration we have ever planned. The best part was the chef and their knowledge of special dietary needs. Other than that. I'm not impressed. Many of us were staying at a hotel 10 mins away. They offered shuttle service to OTM. Since there were so many of us, the first shuttle was an hour before the reception started. When people started to arrive they were told they couldn't come in; not even into the foyer, which was already set up. There were two males who were part of the wait staff that were very rude and obnoxious throughout the evening. When cocktail hour was over, an announcement was made. Rude guy number one then proceeded to make loud, obnoxious remarks towards the people still in the room and making faces to the other worker. It's not like all of us attending the reception could all leave through one set of double doors at the same time. Then we have the drama at the bar. One bartender yelling at another one, in front of everyone at the bar. Really? Who does that? It was demeaning to the other bartender and it was very unprofessional. Plus, it was for something that wasn't even that bad. There were more incidents that occurred throughout the night but I'm sure you get my drift. I would not recommend this place, nor would I look forward to attending another event here. Such a shame. Nice looking place but some of their employees needs lessons on manners and proper etiquette. read more

Recently visited the Old Tappan Manor for a Senior class luncheon. The establishment is relatively small, which allows for intimate venues without the hype of many other venues occurring simultaneously in the same establishment. Indoor and outdoor decorations are elegant, however nothing special. The foodservice was incredibly awful. The waitstaff essentially threw the plates of food onto the table and most of the food was overcooked or over-salted. Overall, my experience at the Old Tappan Manor was mediocre. Giving a different view as an attendee versus a bride. Ambiance is fabulous. From the chandeliers to the gorgeous outdoor views. Waiters and waitresses very attentive and accommodating. The cocktail hour was good, not great. Some dishes like satay chicken and beef and coconut shrimp were excellent as some dishes like calamari and lamb chops ok. Vodka bar quite beautiful and enhanced the room. The OT Manor certainly stood out with the entrees. My boyfriend never eats entrees at weddings but gave it a try and enjoyed the filet mignon and my chicken with salsa was also very good. I looked around the table and everybody ate their entrees. In addition, our two families are very different and we were tough to accommodate. Martin, Richard and the whole OTM team did everything they could to help us and they did a beautiful job! Thank you one million times, Alex, and the staff at the Old Tappan Manor. We were married here on 8/28/2013. I can't say enough praises. It was from start to finish, better than I could even imagine. From our first meeting, Alex listened to our wishes, and having been in this business for decades, wasn't shy to add his two cents. The cocktail hour was more than plentiful. We were given six choices of stations and our 165 guests were never in want. Some of the highlights were the Mashed Potato Martini bar, the carving station (my father-in-law said it was the best lamb he'd ever tasted) and the risotto station. The Tuscan style cold-food station was literally overflowing. The reception itself is in a stunning ballroom with HIGH arched ceiling adorned with a dozen or so chandeliers. The main chandelier makes the one from the Phantom of the Opera blush. There is a large, marbled dance-floor, which we used from the moment we were introduced until the very end of the reception with an hour or so pause when we of course had to make our rounds to greet our guests. The table service was immaculate. All of the staff were courteous, efficient, and professional. The appetizer was waiting for us when we entered, and the main entree of salmon and beef charbriand was to taste and then some. Most people say that the cocktail hour has the best food at most venues, but the Old Tappan Manor really came to bat for the main hour dining. I didn't meet the chef, but he comes from the Rockleigh Country Club, which by the way, charges more than double what the Manor does. Having been to many functions at the RCC, I have to say without a doubt that the Manor is the better venue. After the dinner, there was more dancing. The bar more than kept up with our thirsty crew. There was one incident when one of my groomsmen dropped and shattered his glass in front of the bar, but someone came to clean it without a fuss even though it was our fault. For dessert, Alex gave us an impressive flambe show replete with high flames and circus-like bottle tricks. The kids especially seemed to love that. My husband I were married at the Old Tappan Manor on 10/3/2014. They truly went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect. From the start, we met with Martin who answered all of our questions and went out of his way to accommodate us. It felt like he truly wanted us to have the best day of our lives as opposed to other more expensive venues in the area who seemed to not really care if we chose them or not. We also got a food tasting which was not offered by most other venues in the area. Our day-of maitre d' was Richie who was also fantastic. He organized everything so well and was so helpful and kind. We had a first look at a park prior to arriving to the OTM. When we arrived we had attendants who were offering drinks to the entire bridal party in the huge bridal suite. Since we had the ceremony there, the room was converted during cocktail hour. The ceremony was so so beautiful. The tables were covered by nice curtains and the lighting with the chandeliers and the gorgeous fountain background was just perfect. During cocktail hour, we were brought upstairs to have some time alone before heading down to greet everyone. We were brought up whatever we wanted to eat or drink. It was a really nice time alone before the crazy reception. The reception was perfect. Family and friends are still raving about the food, the atmosphere and the huge bar. We booked our daughters wedding thru Martin ... It was an amazing evening the staff was great the food was amazing ,,., I have never seen such a great cocktail hour there were stations everywhere you turned .. The food at the dinner was cooked to perfection. We searched around for places to have family pictures done we used their grounds and everyone was perfect .. Old Tappan Manor was simply amazing! We planned our wedding over an eighteenth month period and had about 215 guests in September 2015. No matter what question I had the staff helped me every step of the way. Moufid, Rich, Lauren and the whole staff made it a night to remember and one that the two of us and all of our guests enjoyed. I really loved that it was a one event venue; the room is a great size for lots of dancing an spacious for mingling. Food was delicious - the cocktail hour had so much variety and each main entrée got rave reviews from our guests. The grounds around Old Tappan Manor are also perfect for wedding pictures. Rich made sure that my centerpieces, tables, and the room looked just the way I wanted. He was a wonderful maitre'd taking care of guests in the midst of his busy evening. I am a bride who was married here on March 12th. Let me start from the beginning. I found this place online and fell in love, it is much more beautiful in person, breathtaking. I worked directly with Martin Shanley. He was able to work within our budget, and guided me through the process from start to finish. He was extremely professional and helpful through every step. When the big day came I was blown away by how amazing the space looked. There is separate cocktail space which is also amazing. My guest are STILL talking about how amazing the food is. A few guests came up to me at the reception to ask if there was dinner being served because they assumed they ate for the night at cocktail hour!! The reception staff executed a flawless dinner service, and my Maitre'D was beyond amazing. He kept us on schedule, made sure we ate, even grabbed my bouquet at the exact moment after our entrance for our first dance. These people are truly professionals and have been doing this for a long time and it shows. Again the FOOD IS AMAZING! The open bar is AMAZING. The space is GORGEOUS.
