This diner has expanded since the last time I was there and I believe so has the menu. I was with a large group of friends who decided to have dinner here. There were four others tables taken by what seemed like locals so not overly busy for the size of the place. I found our server was quite slow, most of us just ordered water for drinks. She told us what the specials were for that day but did not mention any prices. The bacon cheeseburger macaroni soup sounded really good as the smoky burger. When she came back to take our orders, each order was written separately. A lot of us wanted the soup as the side order. Two friends ordered the smoky burger special but she was not clear that it came with two sides. After placing our orders she comes back to say they ran out of soup! All of us were disappointed but perhaps they didn't make enough as they weren't expecting a group of 12? The root beer float came with ice cubes which was odd, for a diner my friend was not impressed. My crispy chicken burger for $13.95 was just a frozen chicken patty with lettuce, tomato and mayo. I chose a salad with French dressing and the lettuce was very fresh like it was just cut from the head five minutes before! The 50/50 burger was not greasy but didn't have much bacon taste, they could probably improve on that one. Another two friends had the chicken cordon bleu which they said was quite good except the mashed potatoes was a bit dry and may not be real potatoes. We paid our bills individually at the till and my friend discovered the smoky burger special was $19.95! Definitely not worth it but it was very tasty. Overall okay but not sure if I would go to this place again next time I'm in town. read more

My rating is based on comparisons to other dining options in Veg. Old School Diner has been here for a few years already, and they've changed significantly since my first visit there. I was really turned off after visiting this place in 2013, but my mom told me it's become a lot better, and even expanded its dining space. So I gave it another shot. It's a huge place, and is good for big groups. The decor is definitely "old school" diner, which I do enjoy. It's got a retro theme, and there are lots of booths. The food is decent. It's home style cooking, and our group ordered burgers (made from local beef), poutine, chilli, grilled cheese, and kids meals. As well as banana split and a banana milkshake. While everything was average, I must say that chilli was really good. I will be back for the chilli. One comment though, from a family member I went with, is that you couldn't taste the bacon in the 50/50 burger... But I'm not sure if that's because the cook used the wrong burger or not. I would expect if a burger is 50% ground bacon, it would be pretty obvious taste wise. Also, the poutines didn't come out piping hot, they were just warm. The place is relatively clean... and they seem to got rid of the greasy fryer smell they had when I was there a couple years ago. Overall, a decent place to eat at in Veg. read more

The Place is very nice, with sweet furniture "happy days" style. I had a delicious hamburger (50% beef and 50% pork) with blue cheese, but the fries were a little too oily. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. The food was disgusting and for a restaurant boasting "home cooked" food they should be ashamed. The portion sizes are ridiculous for the prices they charge. Everything that came to our table was quite obviously pre-packaged and reheated or deep fried. The decor is a poor attempt at a recreation of a 50's nostalgic diner and it fails terribly. The bathrooms stink of mold and wood rot and are not pleasant. The service was mediocre at best. This establishment is not worth your money and I'd recommend McDonalds over this establishment. read more

Food was incredible and the staff was super friendly! They have an outdoor patio and were very accommodating since we were traveling with dogs. (They even brought us an extra bowl and water for our dogs to drink from which I found thoughtful). I wish we were in town longer so we could try more on the menu! The experience here was average, psuedo-retro ambience yet they had horrible country music blaring right above our heads. Food was average for a place like this. All in all an adequate experience but perhaps for Vegriville it's something special.. ROFL well this place IS special, 4 of us ate, 2 clubhouse sandwiches and 2 fish burgers, the bill came out to 71 dollars!!! RIDICULOUS for the amount and quality of the food, in fact its disgusting they would charge this for some dump in this town... Save yourselves the hassle and DO NOT EAT HERE. read more

My wife and I have been here several times. We LOVE the burgers and fries. All made in house. Fresh cut fries just how I love them! It is a family run diner. I think they are relative newcomers to the restaurant business but have shown their commitment to good quality food. We have always found them very friendly and, when the things weren't perfect (as sometimes happens) they are open to suggestions and listen to all comments. I would recommend this place for a great freshly made juicy burger and fresh cut fries. Great diner food! read more

This place is just what the name suggests - an old school, classic diner with comfort food and a casual atmosphere. The fries are the best ever, and the burgers are delicious. Portions are generous and the staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant, including the bathrooms, is squeaky clean, which tells you a lot about their attention to detail and how they care about the customer. It is one of my favorite places to eat in Central Alberta! read more
