Unpleasant experience overall, but got the job done…read more I'd like to use this review to give an accurate description of dealing with Jeanne Zimmermann (Director of Leasing) of McGuire Real Estate. The other reviews here have been overwhelmingly negative, so I thought I'd give an objective assessment of her services for the benefit of prospective clients. My first contact with Jeanne occurred over an extended email exchange in which she made my roommate and me sign a property entry advisory declaration (due to COVID) and tried to make sure that we weren't wasting her time. She reiterated the last point over the phone, and seemed quite insistent on us being able to make an acceptable offer if we were going to view the property. All this is fine -- it's understandable that real estate agents would want to take extra precautions during a pandemic, and that someone of Jeanne's age would want to minimize her risk of exposure to the virus due to time wasters. At the viewing Jeanne was courteous and pleasant, and answered all of our questions satisfactorily. However, after we signed the lease agreement we immediately detected a big shift in her attitude towards dealing with us. She became harder to reach via text/email, and would sound annoyed when we were actually able to connect with her over the phone. When one of my roommates asked for some clarification about the instructions for wiring over a large sum of money, she called him up and said something to the effect of "Are you kidding me? The [routing and account numbers] are in the contract" and hung up, when the question was specifically about which number was for the routing and which was for the account. In fairness to Jeanne, she claimed that it was inappropriate to contact her after hours, but she didn't have to reply to the text message right away and could have waited till the next morning instead of losing her temper over the phone. It was also very obvious that she began avoiding calls and texts from me, as my calls (which were always answered promptly before the lease was signed) were routed to voicemail and my text messages were ignored. However, when I tried calling with a different number she picked up immediately. When this was pointed out to her she came up with the excuse that she couldn't possibly have been avoiding my calls/texts because she didn't know what my number was, which is suspect considering that she had no problems calling and texting my number prior to us signing the lease agreement. She even went so far as to make a big show of claiming not to know my number in our subsequent communications, which was quite frankly bizarre. When we did get ahold of her, she would act in a passive-aggressive manner, saying things such as "let me drop everything I'm doing to answer your question." She also repeatedly claimed to be extremely busy -- too busy to reply promptly to our questions -- but this did not seem to be the case just days prior, before we signed the lease agreement and secured her commission. Lastly, she also reneged on an agreement in which she promised to reimburse our application fee if we signed the lease. When asked about the reimbursement, she brushed it off and said that she got us a $50 reduction in the rent which was worth more than the application fee. While this is true, it is also an entirely separate issue from the promised reimbursement. So, in summary: Pros: - Got the job done - Got us a small reduction in rent - Was prompt and courteous BEFORE we signed the lease agreement - Fairly knowledgeable about the real estate market Cons: - Lack of communication once her commission was secured, possibly avoiding calls/texts from clients - Very condescending tone - Reneged on an explicit promise It was a fairly unpleasant process, but overall it was handled competently (albeit not entirely professionally) and I would only recommend McGuire if you did not have a choice in the matter (which, unfortunately, you won't).

Jeanne Zimmerman represented the owner of our condo. Contrary to the other reviews here by tenants,…read morewe had a pretty reasonable set of interactions with her - both when we moved in, where she was prompt in communicating between us and the owner, and when we decided to move out where she was responsible for letting the unit again. We had a bit of disagreement with the owner, who was very upset about some marks we had left on the countertop and was trying to deduct an addition several hundred dollars to replace it. Jeanne stepped in, found a cleaner who could take care of it for $50 or so, and that was that. We're appreciative to Jeanne for intermediating and de-escalating a small issue that could potentially have blown up into something much more annoying.

When I chose a real estate broker to sell my San Francisco TIC unit, I knew from 3 previous TIC…read moretransactions that I needed to work with someone who really understood TICs inside out. Many brokers don't invest the time to learn about the ins and outs of TICs, and that can lead to unexpected problems for buyers, sellers and lenders. So the obvious choice for me was the Brown Real Estate Group, because for years they have developed a specialty in Tenants in Common. I worked most closely with Mark Brown and Cathy Garibaldi, but it was always obvious that they were supported by a strong team. From day one they anticipated things that I wouldn't have known -- for example they knew that lenders now require TIC Agreements to have clauses that didn't exist when my TIC was formed in 2009. So they hit the ground running with legal expertise to amend the TIC agreement, and they worked directly with the other TIC owners to get our Agreement revised and signed in time for a clean, easy, close. Mark and Cathy were incredibly detail oriented, thorough, responsive to my queries, and patient with me! They were fantastic communicators, making the complex issues comprehensible to me, and to prospective buyers. In addition to the TIC expertise they applied to my transaction, they also assessed what the house would need to sparkle on the market, and brought in their own team of floor refinishing, painting, and staging talent. They managed the entire project, on budget, on time, and with good humour! All that up-front work definitely paid off for me. I highly recommend Brown Real Estate Group to sell any property, and for TIC units, they are the very best in the business!

OK Full Disclosure: I'm Chinese, so I believe in Value. Actually, maybe that's not particular to…read morebeing Chinese. Anyway, I'd give Tom more stars of Yelp actually allowed it. Last year, I made the decision to make the biggest purchase of my life so far: a 2-bedroom apartment at Duboce Triangle/Castro/Upper Market. I did my research on the market, calculated how much I could afford, and looked up real estate agents. I've talked to a few real estate agents before (mostly through family friends) and they turned me off immediately- some were way too pushy, others were aloof, they were clueless about the SF market, and some were maybe just a bit too eager. Either way, I really questioned whether they provided any value at all in the age of RedFin. That's when a very experienced and established neighbor of mine introduced me to Tom Cooke, and I can safely say now, having bought my house, that Tom Cooke was WORTH EVERY PENNY and I'm pretty sure I couldn't have done it without him. Upon meeting him, I really got the sense that he was not only knowledgeable about the SF real estate market (he's been at it for almost 20 years), he is extremely astute and intelligent, and he REALLY understands the neuroticism of a first-time home buyer. Upon meeting him, I thought to myself, if there is ANYONE I need on my side in a negotiation- it's this guy. He really knows this sh*t. Despite being super busy (all his business being from referrals and loyal repeat clients) Tom makes himself available, he isn't at all pushy, and makes you completely comfortable with the whole process- which can be a frustrating one. I really saw the value in having Tom by my side during the negotiations/offer-making process, and especially during the closing of escrow. The paperwork, deadlines, and the insufferable personalities of the lender/seller/previous homeowner/HOA association/bank was difficult to sort through, but Tom walked me through everything, handled most of it, and gave me his honest opinion throughout the entire process. I felt I could trust Tom to give me his unbiased and honest feedback, whether or not it benefitted him, and that in itself is difficult to come by. Tom was my confidant, therapist, and advocate through the entire home-buying process, and a year later, he still continues to be my main resource in all things relating to real estate. And I am happy to report that I am still very, very happy I bought my place. And, I know it wouldn't have happened without Tom. If you don't believe me, just set up some time and talk to him and decide for yourself. I'm just happy to give credit where credit is due.

From our initial meeting we could tell that he was a perfect fit - calm, patient, realistic, honest, we couldn't have asked for more. I am convinced that his personality combined with an extensive knowledge of the market (properties and agents) is what got us into our new home. Being very anxious about the process, it was reassuring to have Tom on our side. He explained every document we signed, analyzed offers, spent hours walking through every part of the disclosures, and fought for us when it mattered most. He is available 24 hours a day and was always incredibly responsive. There will always be surprises when closing, but Tom was right by our side and took all the stress out of it. We are so grateful to have found Tom and could not be happier in our new home!
