There's a sign on the front door that basically says, you don't have to wear a mask if you don't want to and specifically states that they're not responsible for your health and wellbeing while on their property, but they strictly stick to a capacity limit of six people inside at a time... One of them says they sell over 24 flavors of ice cream n you MUST know your order prior to entering. Upon entering I went they FOUR flavors as they out of everything. She showed me a list of everything they're out of- it's longer than the list of what they offers. Btw, the list was an aged list ie It appeared to be common they were out of most flavors on a daily basis. I ended up with vanilla and asked for some toppings. The chubby bearded boy at checkout needs to find another line of work, something without interpersonal communication. I can handle general rudeness, but he was a special flavor of jerk-off. As the other 1-star reviews expressed, he came across as completely inconvenienced by customers, and annoyed at having to tell them their requested ice cream flavor is out and having to wait while they pick an alternative. He seemed especially irked at having to show me the difference in cup sizes, then when my order came out in a cone instead of a cup, he claimed I didn't tell him cup. I want back and forth on what star rating to give, and decided to average it between the two elements we experienced. First the good: the soft serve. This is a 4, maybe 5 star experience in soft serve. It was excellent and they have a crazy flavor selection. Now the bad: got a pizza after a long day of hiking, and it was not good. The toppings were average, but the crust was bad. Too soft in the middle and flavorless and chalky on the edges. This place would gain a star if the just got rid of the pizza so you couldn't make that mistake. Other reviewers have said the deli is good, and I do plan on trying that in the future, because I will definitely be back for the ice cream. Place advantageously near Old Man's Cave, Conkel's Hollow, Rock House and other hiking and tourism favorites, Old Man's Cave General Store services the visitors very well. Sure, you get clipped a little bit for their convenient location. But you are, after all, out for a day in beautiful Hocking Hills. The price is right because location, location, location. Two things I thought were great. First, management makes fresh sandwiches every morning. I got there early one morning and the sandwich shop was busy. Roast beef and swiss, turkey and swiss, ham and cheese, and other sandwiches were all being wrapped and placed in the front-view coolers. And they're cutting meat fresh. Nice! Then there is the ice-cream offer: 24-flavors of creamy whip ice cream cones. Boo yeah! There's nothing like a tall curly top chocolate or vanilla or pumpkin ice cream cone after a long hike. Another nice twist: outdoor seating. You can use picnic tables and 2-top and 4-top tables on the store's veranda to rest up before leaving Hocking Hills or heading back to a cabin rental following restocking of goods. IMPORTANT: This is not a bathroom stop. Lastly, the bag ice is small bag. No large bags so if you're going for big cooler fill-ups, you'll pay a bit more. read more

We were drawn in by the signs claiming 20-30 flavors of soft serve. We were disappointed to find that this wide range of offerings was accomplished by mixing in flavored syrups to vanilla soft serve. The mixing process actually breaks down the soft serve causing it to melt very fast. Need to consume quickly if you don't want a melted mess. I struggled writing this review. Let me start by saying that the ice cream is amazing. The 1 star review is because of the horrible service that we received during multiple visits. Whoever owns this business needs to whoop the children that work there. Be aware that the ice cream closes 30 minutes prior to the posted closing time. We were in line before the 30 minute mark, along with six other people who were in front of us. The workers announced at the 30 minute mark that "the ice cream machines have been turned off." I don't understand how a business can just stop serving while they have a line of customers...? I'm assuming that if the machines aren't shutoff at exactly 30 minutes prior to closing they must burst into flames. Again, where are the adults?! Then, on two separate occasions the boy, that appears to be a more senior employee, talked to the female employees like they were absolute garbage. Again, where are the adults?! Totally inappropriate for the boy to be talking to the female employees as disrespectfully as he was in front of a store full of customers. He's lucky that wasn't my daughter. My 11 year old daughter even noticed and asked why he was being so mean to that girl. I would love for the owner of this business to contact me. I could definitely give them an earful on how their business is being ran in their absence. If the ice cream wasn't as good as it is I would have walked out the first time.
