Walked into Old Grouch's Military Surplus and was greeted by a monotone "hello." I was the only one in the store, and still there was not a welcoming presence. The guy at the counter didn't look up from his phone until I was ready to ask for some prices on some items. It is a small store. Mostly uniforms and field gear. It could be organized better for the small space. Most of the uniforms have prices, but there are bins of items with no prices and he comes up with it on the fly. Some vintage items like WWII helmet nets. Vietnam jungle fatigues, and miscellaneous canvas field gear. But finding it requires you to search for them. I was interested in an m1 helmet liner that was out on the floor. And when asked about it, the guy said "the liner is not for sale, I'm going to make helmet sets." Which is fine. But do not have an item that you are not willing to sell out next to items that ARE for sale. Overall not too impressed, not very helpful, and there's better quality military surplus stores out there. Perhaps Old Grouch is a fitting name for this establishment. read more

I grew up coming here and I always come back every time I am in town. This place is a REAL old style military surplus place, you never know what you are going to find. One time it's a bunch of military issue tool sets, the next time it's a bunch of military field phones, but I always find something fun. If you don't see what you are looking for ask them. They seem to have a cavernous back room and other warehouses with all kinds of goodies stashed away. read more

Stopped in after seeing the signs on the interstate. Lots of actual military surplus that I don't find at my local shop. It's cluttered, but that's how I remember all the surplus stores growing up. Boot selection was a little lacking because they sell actual surplus and don't get a steady run of sizes, but they were upfront about that. Worth the stop going by on I-40 to stretch your legs. I placed an order in December and at the tiem the website said it could take 4 weeks to ship. Nearly a month later my credit card was charged and I assumed that the item would ship shortly -- that did not happen. I emailed them twice and have never received a reply. I called them and was told (very cheerfully) that the item was finally ready to ship but there was a computer issue holding up the label printing. IT would go out as soon as the computer was fixed. Sounds like the two other reviews have never visited this little shop. I was driving along I-40 today and decided to stop. The store is not very hard to find, google and my gps both brought me right there. It's a little shop, in a little town, the sign is fading - but I like it. When you walk in, you are totally bombarded with visual stimulation. There is literally. Stuff. Everywhere. There's a pile of stuff in the front of the store - stuff everywhere. They had everything from boots to MREs to belts and collectibles. The man working there was very friendly, greeted me the second I walked into the store. I told him that I came in because of the billboard and he said that lots of his customers do. He said that someone who works at the store (I wasn't paying enough attention), goes on the radio sometimes. They've had Alaskan honey mooners pop into the shop too. Chatty, friendly, lots of stories. I didn't buy anything today, but I'll definitely be back! read more

Absolutely ripped me off and stole my money. Took the online order, then never sent my improved poncho with sack. Has only answered four phone calls over 8.5 months, and absolutely does not answer voicemail or emails. Was able to get a hold of Tim over the phone and he promised to send the poncho, sack, and refund for my troubles. Three weeks later: nothing. No refund check, no poncho and sack as promised. Put an order in Nov, 2018 and was charged twice for the order. They shipped the original order, but will not refund for the double charge. Additionally, they would not return email, and don't answer their phone, so getting a resolution to their double charge has been pointless. Opened a credit dispute for the double charge, and they replied to the credit card that both were legitimate orders, but provide no tracking numbers to prove they shipped two orders. AVOID these thieves. They make no effort to rectify their errors, and online commerce seems to be how they find bonus money. As others have said, they double charge without conscience. read more

I ordered from here before and had no problems so I didn't think this time would be an issue. I ordered 5 wool blankets, got an order confirmation, they took my money and that was it. I haven't received my items, they won't answer emails and the phone is busy every time I call. Finally had to call my bank and dispute it. I've done business with Old Grouch for many years but this last time will be the last time. I was double charged for one item and charged for another item that has never been received. I have emailed them multiple times and received no reply and tried to call them for the past 2 weeks and got a busy signal every time. Seems they just take the phone off the hook so they don't have to deal with unsatisfied customers. I plan to take the drive and go see them in person with a local LEO with me. This is a fraudulent dealer. Do not attempt to do business with them. Ordered a few items, never shipped. I've asked for a refund multiple times and have been ignored. "Tim" told me he had family problems and that he'd send items. It turns out this is a standard lie to take your money. If my order wasnt so small I'd be contacting their local law enforcement, as it appears taking orders and neither shipping the item or giving refunds is blatant theft. I attempted to reach out to the business via their phone number 4 different days and each time the line was "busy". That's very sketchy. They have two different emails listed on their website (also odd). I emailed both addresses and about a week later I still haven't heard back from anyone. Twice in 2019 I attempted to order truck shackles after receiving promotional emails. The first time the item was never shipped. I disputed the charge. The second time I called the store ahead of time, confirmed they had them and that they will actually ship them this time. The person on the phone said something like "They've had some personnel issues and fired some people. We will ship them tomorrow." So again I ordered online, received nothing, and disputed the charge a month and a half later. They're good at billing your credit card, not so good at shipping your merchandise. read more

It is now June 14 and after placing several calls and getting told I will send you shipping info and even being told 2 weeks ago it's in the state now I have given up. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY ONLINE. I should have read the Yelp reviews before ordering from Old Grouch's website. I, too, was charged and never received the product I ordered. Not only was I charged for the order, two days later, Old Grouch charged me again for the same order. When that charge showed up on my credit card bill I tried calling them. Got an odd message from Verizon about their phone number in the multiple times I tried calling. I emailed them as well asking for an explanation for the double charge ($299!!). Crickets. I waited a week and then sent another email informing them I'd seek recourse through my credit card company. Bingo, email the next day from "Tim" saying they were having trouble with their email account and he would process my refund right away. You guessed it, no refund the next day. I called the credit card company and registered a complaint. Fast forward another 10 days and I called the credit card company to see why the refund hadn't been posted. I was told there was no response from Old Grouch on the double charge inquiry and the banking regulations time limit had not yet been hit. By now the hair on the back of my neck was standing up and I checked their Better Business Bureau account - a grade of "F" - and the Yelp reviews - people in the same spot as I am now with orders placed, cards charged, and no merchandise shipped. I'm currently out $598 and hoping the credit card company can claw back my hard-earned money. read more
