The appointment was set, and we met with Helen Spiegel, who looked at the things we wanted to sell. Helen was knowledgeable and showed kindness to my mom. She offered us a fair price. We will recommend this company to others. They were fair and honest regarding my aunt's belongings.

Worth the commute from…read moreManhattan just to learn about his time in the trade and to see what he has in stock as he does not have any items online. Harry is a very easy to talk to and someone who has lived and breathed military antiques since they were surplus items in the 1960's so I was lucky enough to get the chance to pick his brain a little. I had a wonderful experience talking to him, and seeing some pieces such as a WW2 Japanese battleship flag in wool which is something I have only seen in books. I bought some really grade A antiques at what I think were fair prices. I would recommend calling him if you have any questions or want to sell something. If you have even a passing interest in military antiques, Sparr's is worth the visit for the experience. This is a 5/5 for me.

Arrived 15 min prior to closing (4:45 PM) on a Friday and all coins had been put away. They wanted me to come back another day but were closed until Tuesday. Zero accommodations were made despite asking for a very select subsection of coins. Essentially was told: "Hit the road JACK!". Not a great customer service experience. Staff definitely had an attitude. I remained polite but despite being from out of town, I was told: "go look at the website" Duh! I could have done that without a $50 cab ride to the store. They didn't say that on the phone call inquiry. I definitely indicated I was driving in to their location. Wrote a letter to corporate and 5 days later, still no response. Not impressed.

Before visiting, I called because my grandfather was visiting from Puerto Rico and does not speak…read moreEnglish. He asked me to check whether there were any Spanish-speaking employees in the building so he could understand the process and what was being said to him. The woman who answered the phone didn't even let me finish. She rudely cut me off and said, "I understand, but no--only English. This is America." At first, I thought I misheard her, but then I was left speechless realizing she actually said that. How rude and completely unnecessary. Since I couldn't be present, I asked if there was another way we could appraise his coins. Once again, she cut me off and repeated an email address in an extremely arrogant tone, as if I were absolutely wasting her time. I won't continue detailing the experience because it only gets worse, and this is energy I'd rather put into something that actually matters. To wrap up this review, I ended up taking my grandfather to a competitor. They were more than happy to provide a Spanish-speaking employee, who patiently guided him and explained the value of each coin. My grandfather was very happy with their service and knowledge and ended up selling his entire collection for a pretty good penny. I don't know about you, but that sounds like your loss to me. I will never recommend or visit this place again. My rating would be -5 stars if that were possible.
