I've been wanting to check this place out since I moved down the street a few years ago. The bartend was super friendly and happily explained the membership requirement. I also got to chat to a few of the regulars. It is an intimate space, but it was really nice. It is all bar stool seating and there's a step up into the bar and then another couple of steps to the bathroom. So not ADA friendly, but like most bars they're just dealing with the cards they were dealt in the early 1900s when they were opened! Over all, you should go check it out if you're interested in finding your own little local watering hole.

How confident are you? If you get nervous when asked to speak in front of a group or just want to…read moreimprove your communication skills, this is the place for you. A group of about 10-15 people meet the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month in Leawood for an hour lunch meeting. Typically, there are a couple 5-7 minute speeches that will be given and evalutated and then an opportunity for short "Table Topics" so everyone can practice thinking and speaking on their feet. My boss recommended that I join a Toastmasters group after she noted that I used "like" in conversations more than a Valley girl. That's embarrassing. At each meeting, there is a Grammarian/Ah-So Counter who reports how many times each person used a filler word, incorrect grammar, etc. Then the "winner" gets to take home the Wizard of Ahs trophy to remind them to speak more thoughtfully. After proudly earning this title for many meetings, I can say that I have definitely improved my speaking skills. I've been to other Toastmaster clubs and felt intimidated; this is a very diverse and welcoming group. Feedback is positive and constructive. You will always laugh. Guests are welcome anytime for free; check it out!

Not sure I would come here on my own but it was nice to be invited here by locals. Everyone seems to know everyone here - we ran into the local news anchor with her family here, which was cool. I was a member of Leawood South for a few years after I moved south and left Milburn country club…read more I'll state up front that it was a huge let down moving from Milburn to Leawood South. Milburn was a club with great tradition from 1917, Leawood South was built in the late 1960's and has a vibe that is more suburban cul-de-sac than grand old club. Some people dig that vibe, I don't.... The golf course is a mixed bag. The front 9 is quite boring and seems like it could be part of a muni course. The back 9, on the other hand, is quite fantastic and dramatic; lots of elevation changes and much more challenging. The clubhouse is 1960's suburban cul-de-sac... Very functional but not much architectural grandeur here. I have friends that have been members at Leawood South for many years and they love it. A club is really more about the people than the course/clubhouse and Leawood South has great employees and a close knit member community. So don't read this review that Leawood South is not a fun place to be a member. It just has an average golf course and average club house from an architectural perspective.
