Worse hospital stay I have ever had!! I will list two of the problems. FIRST EVENT: A male and…read morefemale lab personnel came into my room. The male reached into the container he carried and pulled out a needle and turned to hand it to the female. The female place both hands on her face, turned and ran towards the door of my room (where she stopped) shouting, "Oh, I'm so scared, I'm so scared!!!" My response was to say to the male that I did not want her to draw my blood. The male lab person insisted that she draw the blood, and forced her on me, he would not listen to my protests. The female pushed the needle in my arm, then went searching for my vein. The male had to finish the job as she was able to do it. SECOND EVENT: At 10:00 pm one night an alarm went off on a machine that was attached to me. I called the nurses station to report the alarm. I was told someone would come right in. Nobody came. Thirty minutes later, the alarm was still ringing, but a new deeper sounding alarm started. I called the nurses station again and reported the alarm was still sounding and a new deeper alarm was going off. I, again, was told someone would be right in. One hour after the alarms had started a nurse who said she was in another patient's room came into my room and told me she heard the alarm while she was in the other room. I informed her of my calls to the nurses station and of their response and lack of response. She had no comment. A few hours later, I saw the nurse who had come into my room after hearing the alarm and I asked her if she had found out why nobody came in response to my reporting of the alarms and the nurse said, "Oh, they said they forgot." This happened while I was on the cardiac floor. Due to these and the other bad experiences during my stay, I would never, ever stay in the Olathe hospital again. So sad and disappointed in the Olathe hospital facility!!!

As a disabled, transgender man, this place is the last place I'd recommend to anyone from ANY walks…read moreof life, even if you aren't any sort of minority like I am. During my visit from 08/08 to 08/12, the following happened: 1. Upon being admitted for a drug induced psychosis, they put my on their "volatile" unit (Sunshine) and, against my gender identity and request, roomed me with a woman. When I approached staff about it, the first member told me to essentially "suck it up", and it took me seeking out two other members for them to find a solution. Said solution was putting me in isolation. 2. After rooming in the isolation room, I was waken up by staff members loudly talking about how transgender people were essentially not people as well, one member stating "...I just don't support their lifestyle" within earshot of me. 3. The staff violated multiple federal AND state patient rights; they didn't orally tell me my rights, they didn't give me proper accommodation, and they treated me and other patients like animals. 4. Thanks to the nature of the beds, a spinal injury I was almost fully recovered from was agitated, and during my stay, I went from being fully mobile to once again having to use a wheelchair almost full time. 5. Whenever I was transferring MYSELF from my wheelchair to the bed, I fell onto the floor and was stared at by the entire nursing staff. It took me calling out to them for them to finally start making their way to me, and one female member made a point to put gloves on and handle me as if I was trash. 6. They filled their patients past capacity, and one woman was put into isolation whenever I was moved out into a room (once again, with a woman, against my wishes and everyone else's comfort) and the other was sleeping on one of their restraint impact cushion on the common room's floor. She had to ask staff to shower multiple times because she didn't have a room, and her request was ignored several times in a row until a male nursing staff (who made my stay survivable) gathered her things and called over a female staff member to watch her. 7. It took me getting loud and leaving my room at 12am for staff members to stop loudly talking and essentially screaming at some moments to respect other people's sleep during the night. One particular member named Daisy set off my agitation by mumbling "well morning staff does it too" under her breath, and then proceeded to talk about me, a PATIENT, behind my back during the rest of my stay to other staff members. 8. Despite my drug induced psychosis episode clearing up on the 9th, they refused to discharge me; it took me begging a staff member named Amina (who was also wonderful, by the way) to help me with filing to leave for AMA for me to finally be listened to, even though it's stated in the patient right's papers (that they printed off and handed me myself) that patients who are no longer in need of treatment are not to be held in the facility. I was not suicidal, homicidal, nor even a danger to ANYONE, including myself, yet they held me even after multiple doctors/therapists I talked with 1-on-1 said so themselves that they didn't know why I was there. 9. I was able to leave in the early hours of the evening on the 12th, and even though the same male staff member previously mentioned had to wheel me out in a wheelchair, they marked me as being ambulatory on their discharge paperwork. Ambulatory, even though I fell TWICE during my stay. TLDR; don't go here or send anyone you love here if you don't want to have to fight for you/them to get the help you actually need.

The front desk staff and medical staff who took my vitals were both friendly, prompt and helpful! While my vitals were being checked, the attending physician, Dr. Peterson chimed in as we joked around, she recognized me at the yoga place we both attend. Funny, I didn't recognize her but recognized me. I was so nervous going in but after the initial introduction at the hallway with Dr. Peterson, I felt much more at ease while she treated the infection. She was very thorough, attentive and took great length to explain the aftercare at home and medication for the infection. I highly recommend this Urgent Care in Olathe on 134th Street for the quality care they provide. ~ M. Lightner

But my son needed to be seen. I called the facility twice and spoke to a delightful woman on the other end who answered my questions and gave me directions. She wasn't pushy or rude despite calling more than once. The interactions with the front desk staff, the nurse (Susan ?), the x-ray tech (Amy?) and the doctor was extremely pleasant. They were patient, kind, and didn't seem to rush or cut corners. Even though the foot wasn't broken and we ended up leaving with an air cast and the rest/ice run down, I felt the appointment was productive and was confident with the diagnosis and recommendations given. Fast forward, we needed a note for school. The original fax didn't go through correctly. I called the next day to ask if they could resend the note. Now, I know they were busy because they put me on hold. Despite this, the receptionist who answered the phone was kind, responsive, and quick to resend the information I needed. Not once did I feel like I was an inconvenience which is rare in the world of medicine. Patience and kindness make such a big difference. Thanks for making what could have been a miserable experience all around, a pleasant one.
