Unexpected visit with my mom. Going to the ER is never fun. Our medical experience was good and it was relatively quick in and out. However, the signage here is dreadful. I'm used to an abundance of signs to get you where you need to be, particularly to the emergency room and it was a bit of a guess driving. read more

I was recently hospitalized for 5 days and it was the worst experience of my life, one of my nurses absolutely refused to help me despite my numerous requests and my family's multiple requests for her to contact the doctor to try and get my pain under control she ignored our requests and left me to suffer in excruciating pain for 48 hours, that same night I pushed my call light over 8 times because I needed to use the restroom but had a bed alarm on, my nurse completely ignored me and I had to hold my urine in until after 7 am the next morning when shift change took place, my family and I asked for a patient advocate who acted like she could have cared less, this same nurse also put in my records absolutely incorrect and false information and this was also reported, then I had to have a procedure done and I had to remove my lower partial but didn't have my case for it and not one hospital staff member offered me a case so I was forced to put it in a tissue and set it on my bedside table, I advised my nurses that my partial was in a tissue on my bedside table and they assured me all of my belongings would be safe as nobody would be in my room, well much to my surprise when I went to get my partial to put it back in it was gone. We immediately asked for a charge nurse and the advocate yet again, someone had gone in my room like housekeeping and cleaned my bedside table off and threw my partial away. I have now been home almost 3 weeks and.not one person from the hospital has followed up with me like they assured me would happen within 24 hours of me going home so we could figure out how they were going to replace it. I am absolutely disgusted with the events that took place and at this point will be going above the advocate to get this resolved and I am even looking into legal representation, this is a violation of my patient rights and nobody deserves to be treated like I was! I am prepared and will be pursuing this as far as needed! DO BETTER your patients are people and deserve to get the care they are entitled to, I am absolutely disgusted and will also be reaching out to the local news stations as well! We were told there is no patient advocate on the weekends. They have been keeping an elderly family member for far too long and doing nothing to help him. Talk about taking advantage of the elderly. The nurses don't check on you often. The doctor's refuse to listen. They run all of these tests that are completely unnecessary, but then take a day just to review the results before ordering another test. I would avoid coming here if you have even one other option, even if it's farther away. read more

Completely disappointed in this hospital. Since KU took over the service with the exception of the nurses have gone down hill. My mom was taken to the ER on Saturday for chest pains, the ER took 5 hours to even get admitted. NOw we are on day 2 of the stay and have seen 1 doctor on day one to get one cat scan, she hasn't eaten in 2 days because of this. Now it's day 3 and almost noon. This is the worst experience we have ever had here. They are considering checking out AMA and going to a different hospital. HORRIBLE service. read more

I've been to many medical facilities during my ongoing oncological care. Today I engaged with OMC's Registration Desk, Outpatient Lab, IV Team, a CT Tech, and several others. That may not sound like much, but administrative and technical staff can be the most important part of your overall experience. Then called the day before the surgery trying to extort upfront payment at three times the estimated cost in spite of the fact they've taken our insurance before. Not even kind about it either...like it's our fault for having insurance they used to take. Our insurance company even called them and they told reps from our insurance whey were in our network. Just had a heart attack and went here. Had to have a heart catheter after the catheter was done and I was taken back to my room. I only saw the nurse if I called them. Come time to leave it was 6hr after the DR. Release me for them to discharge me. I will say if night nurse were wonderful. But the day nurse sucked read more

My father would be dead if we hadn't been there to watch all the meds they were trying to give him. Hospital doctor didn't know what she was doing. Admittedly overdosed him on a diuretic and it all went down from there. Brought him in for pneumonia and couldn't wait to get him out. KU has their work cut out for them. read more

Had to take a family member here 4-11-25. It took a long time for them to be seen. While we were sitting there 'waiting', a nurse wheeled an older gentleman out to the waiting area. He had a oxygen tank on him. He had to go to the restroom and the nurse who wheeled him out was like 'yeah, OK' and went back inside the nurse's station. I would say about 10 minutes later when another nurse walked back out he stated he had to go to the rest room. Again it was a 'yeah, OK' moment. This poor old man waited for about 30 minutes. There were several nurses who came out and ignored the poor guy. At one point I went to the window and reiterated that this man needed to go to the restroom. The nurse that wheeled him out and ignored his request the first few times got testy with me. I'm not the type of person who takes anybody talking down to me so I went off on her. There were several people waiting who finally said something about this nurse's attitude. She was rude with them as well. Finally after nearly an hour a guy that was in the waiting room got up and helped the older gentlemen to the restroom. A nurse ran out so fast. We told her someone else had to help him get to the restroom. They went back into the nurse's station and went about their business. One hearing impaired patient couldn't breath and the mom couldn't go in with her. They made this patient wait for more than 30 minutes to be seen. There was another person who came in with a little girl. This poor little angel had dried blood streaming down her face and her right eye was swollen shut. One of my family members said she had a big knot on her head. She was sluggish and the female who brought her in could barely talk. There was no emergency action on these nurse's part. That poor little girl sat by the check-in window for more than 20 minutes. After some time had passed my family member was able to get seen. A few hours after that everybody hears a woman screaming 'no' hysterically. It sounded like the woman who brought in that injured little girl. I don't know and don't want to speculate but I think that little girl passed away. I'm not sure but what I am sure about is that if she had been seen immediately things might've gone a bit better. Those nurses had everybody waiting. I know hospitals are a stressful place to work but if you're heart's not in it to help patients in need...PLEASE DON'T WORK IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM!!!! read more

My mom is there for a few nights unexpectedly and they have no way for her to charge her phone for when it obviously runs low. edit* she ended up borrowing a charger. Still had to wait an entire day without a phone when there should be a charging station in every room. read more

Since KU medical system took over it's been a nightmare. 5 months out to see my primary for heart related conditions, 6 months out to see an orthopedic doctor for a broken foot on a child. I never had a problem before KU. I will be looking for new care in Lawrence and Topeka. I will not continue dealing with this company. read more

Recieved text reminder for ENT appointment coming up. Called to cancel appointment & was told "you still have an outstanding balance that is now in collections". Excuse me...I've only been there once and that was a year ago & haven't recieved anything telling me this! Lady was very short confirming my address and guess what...it was wrong! Apparently they had it as Street & not Place. She then proceeds to tell me she is having a hard time getting the system to accept Place....probably why I didn't get the bill. Asked her why I didn't get an email. MyChart notification or a phone call. She stated that they don't do "any of that". Baffled!!!! Never received an apology. Paid the outstanding bill over the phone & won't be returning to this clinic! ​ read more

I had to go to the ER, because I was having a miscarriage. The pain was unbearable. I was already in shock, mentally, with losing my baby. The Doctor was rude and nasty. I was left alone for 60+ minutes at a time. The worst part was when the doctor was asking me about medications. I told him I took an antidepressant, anti anxiety and a mood stabilizer. I told, the Dr I have bipolar disorder. The Dr asked me "what happens, when you take your meds? Do you feel like yourself?" I said "yes" and then the Dr asked, "what happens when you don't take your meds, are you wacko?". I could not answer. This hospital is awful! After talking to others about my experience, many have had their own horror stories. read more

Cardiology services used to be wonderful. There was a lady that sat at the first desk when checking in that was always so kind and fun. Tina or something like that. Now when we go in the personalities are so dry and no one seems happy at all to be there. Kind of rude and uncomfortable atmosphere. Was told by the nurse practitioner that they got new management about 2 years ago and they scared off some great people! Doesn't sound like management has the interests of the patients in mind. So sad. Maybe some new management would uplift the atmosphere a bit. read more

Since KU has taken over this fabulous facility has gone downhill. The ER is a night mare, we waited with my 92 year old mother in law for 9 hours and finally just left. Of course if they are using contract employees in the ER I see the lack of empathy and urgency. My husband had to go clear to Overland Park for an imaging procedure. Doctors appointments are cancelled without warning. The new KU chart system can't find things from my old chart. It is a mess, they have ruined a fantastic health system, but that happens when the big guys take over. read more

ER Department- We went there because my spouse was very sick, took over two hours on a Tuesday night to see the a doctor. He set that long in a public waiting room with serious Covid symptoms and breathing problems, they did not seem to care. read more

Considering we've been here nearly a week I can say we've had 2 wonderful nurses that I hope go to a different hospital where they are appreciated. As far as medical care, my elderly mother had waited 2 hours for someone to finally come in and hook her catheter back up after I'd asked. Not only have the doctors we have briefly encountered on this stay been absolutely arrogant and without compassion they have failed to give any form of information in a timely manner. We're currently on day 5 of this visit and we will never be returning to any Olathe health again. My elderly mother who just suffered another stroke said she would rather risk her life with the additional time it would take to go to any other hospital.... read more

My husband was referred to this ER for evaluation of a potentially serious infection. We were treated with shockingly little concern for our comfort, miserably waiting for 6+ hours with very inadequate communication in a dirty, cold room. Staff reluctantly answered our questions only after we pressed for test results. We thought they wanted to be there even less than we did. EVERYTHING took twice as long as reasonable, bathrooms were filthy, drains were clogged and we left feeling worse than when we arrived. Easily the worst ER experience these senior citizens have ever experienced. read more

ER room is very slow and doesn't seem to care about patients that are about to faint. They seem to treat older patients first before the younger ones as we saw patients come in after us and get a room before us. Unbelievable. read more

My mother-in-law went to OMC ER about a week ago complaining of ankle pain. She could barely walk on her right foot. She had to be pushed in a wheelchair at her son's high school graduation because it hurt so bad. She had asked them to do an xray and she said they had refused and only did a test to check for blood clots. She goes a week hoping it will get better and finally goes to OPR tonight because the pain isn't getting any better and turns out she has a fracture and some torn/ruptured tendons. The FIRST thing they did at OPR was take an xray. Good job OPR for picking up the slack of OMC. OMC, you're worthless! read more

While my time at Olathe Medical when having my son was good. After I had my son I was extremely confused by my bill. I called to speak to them on my bill after talking to my insurance. I was questioning a charge with the lady who called me back and WOW- she immediately cut me off and said " I am not going to argue with you about this charge" I had to pause - then I said "Do Not Speak To Me That Way- You are constantly cutting me off and not allowing me to speak. I do not understand and I am trying to understand this, I am assuming part of your job is customer service and it is severely lacking.... I had never been spoken to in such a demeaning and uncaring way before and I work in customer support. Her name was Kathy and she should really not be employed in the position she is in. read more

If you can go to another hospital. Go to another hospital! These guys are the definition of malpractice! They can admit they did wrong but will still make you pay for it. Let you be in pain for over 24 hours. Puking & suffering, they told me that was to be expected and was normal. Then when they finally get off their bums to look into the matter with imagery and saw that the device was misplaced, they sweep it under the rug and throw you into another surgery at your expense. Trying to get someone to answer questions and give timely responses is a no-go. My back to back surgeries or back in June 5 2022 and it is now March 2023 and I'm just getting a non-favorable decision. They just charge charge charge. Would not recommend to anybody if you can go somewhere else. Like I said above. The service I would give only a 50% because there were a few amazing nurses there. But a few good nurses, Do not replace the insufferable high bills and malpractice done here! read more

Doesn't seem to understand that unless you have insurance, they won't see you. I've been seeing Olathe (KU) Health doctors, since my wife & I moved here 2 years ago. I have a family doc, a urologist & a couple of cardiologists who've given me great service. I have afib, & my cardiologist referred me to an electrophysiologist (who deals with the heart's electrical system), who recommended I have an ablation procedure. He got covid, so the other electrophysiologist took over. It went well, & I went home in the afternoon. Over the next several days, I had scotomas (aka, silent migraines) that would come & go over 20 minutes. One of those days involved an overnight stay in the hospital. They performed at CT scan of my head & an MRI, & generally monitored me very, very closely. The MRI showed I'd had a mini-stroke sometime in the past, but I never had any symptoms of it. The short story is that I really, really appreciate the kindness of everyone who works for Olathe Health!! I feel that they took fantastic care of me!! I'd recommend this institution to anyone! read more

I am so glad KU bought this facility my mom was in there about 3 years ago. went in fine. after 3 days I said I am getting her and bringing home. had over dosed on tylenol andwere just supposed to check liver or kidneys. they suggested palliative care. I was stunned. had all kinds of new drugs. she was a zombie. grabbed her stomach. I did not give her any of the new Medicinew and realized nothing for acid stomach. Monday called her regular dr. only added stomach acid stomach. it took until Wednesday from Saturday for her to come out of the fog. she had another 3 years of a great life and only recently went to long term care due to dementia. she is still happy and doing great you know your family better than anyone. follow your instincts I know they do their best but really off in this one read more

I recently had a baby at the Birthplace of Olathe Medical Center and found the experience to be overall wonderful. The nurses were great and the doctors provided excellent care for both myself and my baby and I felt completely at ease with the plan of care. The rooms were very nice and comfortable to be in. My only complaint was with registration and discharge processes. When I was checked in and when I was discharged they wanted me to use an electronica signature pad to sign consent forms and discharge forms but neither time the signature pad was working. Both times they made me stand there and wait for over 20 minutes as they were trying to figure it out with multiple people. I heard them say many times to each other to just use paper signatures, and there would be one or two people who would disagree with that and try to get them working. It was very annoying to stand there when I went in in labor and have to wait for them to figure out the electronic signature pad. read more
