Just got an email they're changing their kid care membership from $15/month for any number of kids to $8 drop-in for each child or $50 20-punch card that requires a punch for each kid. This is such a huge price jump, especially for those with multiple kids. We've only been members for a month before this and never got told about this change when signing up & there is no grand-fathering in current members. I've also driven all the way out just to have a sign saying the center is closed for the next couple days. There is little to no space for working out other than on equipment. Overall it has just been a constantly disappointing experience no matter how much I've tried to enjoy the membership. read more

I was confirmed to book an event on June 29th. After finalizing the details with the rental representative, I was contacted and told I couldn't have my event there bc they said my event would be too loud and interfere with the event next door. They said it was a celebration of life. I am celebrating life as well with a Princess Theme birthday party. As a resolution, they offered to move my party up so it could end before 3. They also asked me to change my date, select a location outdoors with June heat, or use one of the centers that did not have a pool. I feel like their actions are discriminatory in nature and not business oriented. When you are renting a venue, you have to be flexible and understanding regarding concurrent events? If the venue expects quietness then perhaps they should have offered the other party a time frame where the venue would be empty. This facility has a great indoor pool and will be packed in the summer!!! It's unfair to cancel my reservation due to them not believing I should be next door. I am extremely disappointed, hurt, frustrated, and confused. I have made plans for family for all over the US to be in town this day. I am simply pressing this matter to the highest level possible. You can't treat consumers in this way and think that sending them away is the best solution. Again, I was prepared to sign my contract and was within my window to pay for it. They chose not to pick me. I want be silenced. It has taken too much planning on my part. Be aware of discriminatory behavior and complain all the way to the top. read more

One of my many favorite spots in the Kansas City Metro for family portraits and senior pictures. There is a giant tree that creates great lighting anytime of day with awesome framing and great colors...even in the winter! Several paths including some bridges and covered areas that are great for family shots or traditional senior pictures. I have been going to the gym and pool here for over a year. I have met so many nice people, but after today I canceled my membership. I have been wearing the same similar gym clothing for 6+ months. 3-4 mornings a week. This morning I stretched my back out before starting to lift and some of my mid drift showed while stretching. (I had on a sweat shirt, a high neck tank top and pants) I was told I was making people uncomfortable and I would need to put on one of their shirts to continue to workout. I have seen far more scandalously dressed woman than myself there and no one has said anything. I guess low cut shirts and short shorts are acceptable though. Will never go back. Good luck to woman who go there. You never know when what your wearing will get you kicked out. read more

This is a nice facility! I love bringing my kids to swim at the pool here. It's so fun! They do not have towels though. I've also taken several drop in classes here and they're great too! I do not have a gym membership though because I often need child care when I work out and their child care is very weird, like they only allow 5-10 kids in there at a time, and they have to be under 7. I mean I don't know the rules but its something weird like that. I've rented rooms here for several occasions and it's all been a very smooth process. read more

Our family has been coming here for about a year now, mostly to use the pool facilities, but we've also experienced some of the other amenities as well. In our experience, everything has been top-notch about this lovely new(ish) rec center! Olathe Community Center won our business due to it having the first available opening (out of three facilities in the area) in a Saturday swim lessons class for our daughter. That was last summer, and we just recently wrapped up our third session, if the repeat business tells you anything about what we think of their lessons. The teachers are all fantastic. Most of them look to be high school and college-aged individuals, and they've all been fantastic with the kids. Even with the difficult ones, who mope or try to avoid the water like last month's leftover Brussels sprouts. There is a large family-dedicated locker room with both dry and wet private changing rooms, the latter being equipped with showers, sinks and toilet facilities. In between kids' lessons (sometimes we've had up to an hour between kiddo 1 and kiddo 2), we've played in the "tree house", as they've come to affectionately refer to it, which is a padded-floor play area just off the front door to the center. On warm days, we go out front and play on the incredible playground that's about 100 feet west of the front door. There are a bunch of spinning apparatuses, a spider web to climb, a "slide" of sorts, and a couple other things to hang and spin on. Call it an above-average playground for kids aged 3-8. It, too, is soft on the ground. Lastly, our daughter loved the pool and swim lessons SOOOOO much that she decided she wanted to have her birthday party here last year. For said party, you are assigned (at least) one proctor for your dedicated room, who helps you unload stuff from your car (cart provided), prepare the room, moderate the party, clean up, and help you on your way out. Ours even helped make a list of who brought what gifts! For the party, you spend a bit of time in the room celebrating (i.e. eating CAKE!!!), and then you make your way down to the indoor pool complex to allow all the kids to cramp up properly after eating CAKE!!! For the parties, all the water features in the pools come alive! There's a huge water table with a fill-up-and-pour-down splash feature, eight or ten spouts (4-6' high), and a couple rain features. There are tons of seats around the pool for you to bear close witness to the numerous lifeguards diving in after kids who wade a little past their depth every 2 or 3 minutes. There's a discount for Olathe residents, which we are not. That, too, ought to help you understand just how highly we regard most everything and everybody at this facility - for the past year, we've paid 10-20% more than Olatheites to be there. My review is based on my experience as using the OCC as my gym. I have been a member of the Olathe Community Center for over two years now and I use it about 3-4 times per week during my lunch hour to swim or workout. I have never had any issues since I started going and in reading the negative reviews, it sounds to me like those people were not proactive in either calling ahead or checking the website for open swim times for their kids. The pool schedule does change based on the school year so it is wise to always check out their website and they are very good about posting updates/changes to the pool and group exercise schedules. The facility itself is very nice and clean with good equipment. The locker rooms are nice and have everything you could possibly need. I have no complaints at all about the OCC and think it has to be one of the nicer public community centers I've ever been in. read more

Very nice new community center that my wife and I treat as a gym, but there is so much more. But let's cover the gym first... The equipment is new and nice, with by TVs and cable attached to the treadmills, bikes and elliptical. Decent weight equipment. 1/10th mile track with three lanes. Basketball and volleyball courts. There is also a path outdoors that goes around the building. The pool area looks great, and combines fitness and fun - lap pool, lazy river (that, at times, you can use to run against the current), but also a kids pool and two water slides. We haven't done any classes yet but there are plenty of them, and many sound interesting. May have to try one soon. Lockerrooms are decently sized with private showers. This is a BYOTowel gym, so make sure you do that if you plan to take a shower. Also, soap and shampoo are BYO. There are plenty of rooms for rent for meetings, bday parties, etc. The rates seem quite reasonable, as community centers tend to be. There's also a place where you can pick up and return library materials that you order ahead, which is pretty cool and I'm in the process of trying for the first time. For residents, you can get 2 people for about $64/month, or if you sign up and pay for a full year you end up getting about two months free. I've been here 3 times; one was on a tour with Olathe Civic Academy. We got to tour the entire place. It is perfect for families. The pool area is amazing; rock wall, 2 water slides, lazy river, hot tub, kids bucket dump! The workout location is nice, all the necessary equipment and machines. Party rooms are well equipped. The meeting rooms are nice, each with a full service kitchen if needed. GREAT place to have an event (even a wedding reception). Staff is very friendly and helpful. Even when they are busy, there's always a "hi" or a friendly smile. read more

While I was at the community center over the weekend it was clear that that COVID Pandemic is of no concern to the facility. Not only did no one have a mask on while playing pick up basketball (all adults) but also most people who were working out also did not have a mask on. I would NOT recommend the Olathe Community Center if you are concerned about the COVID Pandemic, this will become a hotspot for contamination. read more

Nice, relatively new place. They seem to be serious about upkeep, which is good. The staff is very nice. The music leaves something to be desired, so bring your own. I wish they opened earlier on Sunday--10 am is just too late. read more

Come here for gym and group fitness. Beautiful facility and the prices are cheaper than a lot of the other gyms. Highly recommend.

This is the worst place to hold your parties. We booked all three rooms for a special event paid the required amount asked for, and told we could extend our event for another hour. Come 9:30pm as everyone is eating dinner were told to that we can't extend our event another hour while we're in the middle of our event!!! Like we're just suppose to pick up our party and do it at another time??This is the most unaccomodating place ever and I've booked at other places in town for events. Lorna the lady in charge even called the cops on us!! She was quick to accept our check but very hateful and unhelpful in every way possible. The staff was just doing what the Lorna told them to do. Stay the heck away if you want a happy event. You've been warned! read more

I wish someone would have warned me before signing up. Our kids were invited to a birthday party at this facility and really enjoyed the pool. My wife and I decided to take a tour while the party was still going on and chose to sign up. This was a huge mistake that is still haunting us! First is the gym area. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's small. When we took our tour, the place was nearly empty. There were a number of older people on cardio equipment but the lifting equipment was wide open. My plan was to pop in during lunch breaks since the facility is close to my office. Good luck getting any serious lifting done here during the week! They have two squat racks which double as the only two bench presses. The gym is VERY popular among the young basketballer crowd, so expect at least one of them to be permanently tied up. I've personally spent up to an hour on the treadmill waiting for a rack to open, watching ballers mess around while some other guy does quarter-squats. If you were expecting to lift, go somewhere else, unless you have the time and patience to wait out jobless kids who literally have all day. Second is the pool. That's why we signed up in the first place right? If you are planning to join for the pool you better check their schedule CAREFULLY. If your children participate in sports in the evenings, there's a very good chance you won't be able to access the pool at all during the week. I wouldn't expect the pool to be closed for an entire evening for classes, but they do so multiple days a week. My kids haven't been able to get in the pool since we joined. If you want to swim, go somewhere else, unless your schedule lines up with theirs perfectly. Finally, their pricing model is more predatory than any big box gym. I certainly didn't expect this from a community center but you'd better read the FINE PRINT carefully! We decided to cancel our membership because we aren't getting any value out of it. To cancel I had to physically come in, fill out a paper form to "request" cancellation, then wait five days for "approval". During this process I was billed again. I let it go assuming it was my final payment. I heard nothing from the staff until the next month rolls around and I'm billed again! I call to confirm, but none of the weekend crew could help me. A day later I finally get a hold of someone who can "help", and I'm informed of the 60-day notice policy to cancel an account. That's right folks, I get to pay for a useless gym membership for an entire summer! Buyer beware! You need to be extremely careful before signing up here. If lifting and/or the pool are a priority, you'll probably want to go somewhere else. Once you sign up, you'll be on the hook for months of "services" you can't even use. The facility itself seems pretty nice. I'll let you know if we actually get to use it. read more

I took advantage of the day pass option a few times to utilize the lazy river and check out the water aerobics classes during adult times. It seemed nice, so I purchased a monthly pass to continue the aforementioned exercising. I opt to get my fitness workouts during adult time. After purchasing the monthly pass, there were multiple instances of kids there when it was NOT open swim and/or in the lazy river when it was adult time. I brought this to the attention of the lifeguards, nothing was done. The front desk should have stopped them as they walked in wearing swimsuits. I verified with the front desk and management on duty that yes, it was adult time, they apologized and assured me it would not happen again. It did. We replayed this scenario another 3 times and I stated I would need my money back if they were not going to adhere to the promised adult time. I left a voice mail for the Director, Mike, who had someone named Konni return the call. Again, apologies were proffered and she stated they would speak to the lifeguards and do better at adult time. She was, however, also somewhat dismissive and indicated possible exceptions if someone wanted to use the pool during adult time. Guess what, the adults who go specifically for ADULT time do not care for that attitude and specifically go at times set for them. There have been improvements with the lifeguards making sure that kids aren't swimming before kid time. So that was a positive. I, along with other adults I have spoken with, are disappointed that adult time has nearly disappeared. The Tuesday and Thursday adult evening time has been overrun with swim lessons. It seems that there is almost no time that does not have swim lessons or open swim right now. Certainly no evening time. It would be nice if water aerobics were offered a bit later in the evening. Perhaps stop open swim by 7:00 pm to let adults walk the lazy river and then have aerobics at 8:00 pm twice a week? I tried the 6:30 class, however, it is so loud and crowded with open swim, it was extremely difficult to hear the instructor if she was more than a few feet away. Kudos to the Monday evening instructor, Michelle. She made a point of introducing herself to the newcomers, explainin all the exercises and checking on us. I would like to take her class again but could not hear and dislike walking through the soggy Cheetos and other messes around the pool. It would also be nice if there was an evening arthritis aerobics class as the Tuesday & Thursday morning classes are quite full. Surely 2 nights out of 7 is not unreasonable for adult time. Currently, there is a great deal of kid and/or family time when people can splash, play, frolic and have fun and exercise. The Olathe Community Center needs to remember that there are adults in the community who want adult time to get their swim fitness. The restrooms also need more attention as they chronically have hair all over the floors. read more

We had a bad experience today at the gym. My 14 year daughter and her 14 friend went to the gym today. I sighed the waver and the lady at the front desk let them go to the gym. I drove back home and a few minutes later, I get a call from my daughter saying they got kicked out. Apparently, the lady that worked in the gym area came up to them as soon as they got there telling them that they had to be 16+ to touch any equipment. Keep in mind that my daughters have gone to this gym more than 5 times and have NEVER been told other wise. They're responsible young ladies and can/have handled equipment like treadmills and weights before. I trust them and I know teenagers are looked down upon when they can do amazing things. Anyway, I had to race my butt back to the gym to pick them up. I talked to the lady at the front desk about the inconnvience and she just started at me blankly. I told her I didn't think it was okay that she didn't warn us that teenagers weren't aloud to be in the gym. Like, why would you let them walk in there when me (as a parent) was dropping them off. The front ladies knew they would be alone and still let them go up to the gym and take my money. Not only did I pay for 2 people to go to the community center, I had to spend 4 trips, using up all my gas, to pick them up and drop them off. I didn't even get a refund nor was I apologize to for my inconvenience. Overall, not a pleasant experience and I don't want to come back due to the rude and under-accommodating employees! read more

I have been to roughly a dozen children's birthday parties here since it opened. Not once has the water in the pool been a comfortable temperature. It is far too cold to be enjoyable or even tolerable. If you are looking to schedule a pool party, do yourself a favor and check out Matt Ross Community Center or Blue Valley Rec, they actually heat their water. read more

NEVER, EVER have a party or an event at this place! EVER! Samantha was our "party planner" and she was horrible. We booked our daughter's birthday party here and paid over $200 for a "splash party" where the contract clearly states that we have 45 minutes of party room time immediately followed by an hour an 15 minutes of pool time. Once we went down to the pool, Samantha told us that we were not allowed to get in for another 45 minutes because they had swimming lessons that day. What????? So I paid for a "splash party" and now I'm supposed to have all of these little toddlers in their swimming suits, excited to jump in the water, just sit here for 45 minutes!??? I don't think so. Shame on you Samantha! Horrible customer service and NO apologies. She tried to tell us "I'm pretty sure I mentioned the swim lessons would be going on". Sorry, no you did not! I would have NEVER paid that much for a "splash party" when the kids would only have 30 minutes to swim after sitting there for almost an hour. Samantha even tried to threaten kicking us out, our 83 year old grandma and all. What a joke! I wish I would have read all of these other bad reviews that I'm seeing before I booked the party.
