I made a reservation for a property managed by Ola Hola located in Quintana Roo, Mexico (https://www.olahola.mx), had to cancel it 3 days later and a full 3 MONTHS before the actual reservation. The company kept $170 of my money for this cancelled reservation referencing an inflexible policy that was NOT clearly articulated when I made the reservation. I repeatedly requested that the company reps ask the owner of the property to consider reimbursing me an additional $100 and keep $70 for administrative fees. Additionally, I pleaded with them to take my request directly to the owner or a supervisor, however, within minutes they replied saying the owner declined my request and therefore I would not be reimbursed the $100 I was requesting. My sense is that neither the owner nor a supervisor were informed of my request, and while I appreciate the rental company needing to keep a portion of the rental fee for processing of the transaction, the amount of my money they chose to keep is unreasonable and their practices disingenuous. I have and will continue to be a forthright and considerate vacation property renter, but NOT with Ola Hola in Akumal. Further, I recommend that any reservations with this company be scrutinized before proceeding. After all, there are so many other reasonable and upstanding companies and individuals to rent from in this area of Mexico. Ola Hola lists their properties on Airbnb, proceed with caution as they are inflexible and inconsiderate of reasonable requests. read more
